Here, for the first time in English, the general reader is presented with the most illuminating stories of the Old Testament. The author, who is well known for his book, How Great Religions Began, has sifted thousands of legends, parables, beliefs, and romantic stories from a library familiar only to scholars.
I think this is an amazing book which when read in conjunction with Scripture helps to fill in details that seem to be left out--for whatever reason. I found it interesting that the story of Arthur's sword stems from Jethro's rod in which Moses pulled a rod from the ground that would not budge before he arrived on the scene. I was also please to learn that Rapunzel stems from a story regarding Solomon's daughter being locked in a castle because Solomon had learned his daughter would marry a beggar--but in this story, Solomon gives praise to God because what He wills-- happens, regardless of how we try to "fix" things. This book is a rich treasure trove for anyone who is interested in Biblical stories and characters.
