Jim Davis was born in Fairmount, Indiana, near Marion, where he grew up on a small farm with his father James William Davis, mother Anna Catherine (Carter) Davis, brother Dave, and 25 cats. Davis' childhood on a farm parallels the life of his cartoon character Garfield's owner, Jon Arbuckle, who was also raised on a farm with his parents and a brother, Doc Boy. Jon, too, is a cartoonist, and also celebrates his birthday on July 28. Davis attended Ball State University. While attending Ball State, he became a member of the Theta Xi fraternity. He earned the dubious honor of earning one of the lowest cumulative grade point averages in the history of the university, an honor incidentally shared with Late Show host David Letterman.
Davis as of 2007 resides in Muncie, Indiana, where he and his staff produce Garfield under his company, Paws, Inc., begun in 1981. He was married to Carolyn, a singer and elementary teacher whom he met while both were attending college, and has a son named James with her. However, the couple divorced, and Davis since 2000 has been married to Jill, Paws' senior vice president of licensing, who has worked there approximately 25 years.
Ironically, Davis did not own cats when he started Garfield because of Carolyn's allergies, but they owned a Labrador retriever named Molly. With Jill, the family has expanded to include children Ashley and Chris; three grandchildren, Chloe, Carly and Cody; cats, Spunky and Nermal; and a dog, Pooky.

While the drawing style and the bright colours make this book seem rather attractive, the comedy element to the strips just isn't present. Each page consists of a single strip, usually 6 panels, all quite different from each other. Some of these hardly make any sense, and even though I was (initially) in a pretty good mood when I read this, I found everything very slight indeed, barely bringing a single smirk in 130 pages. I recently read some Peanuts books, Calvin & Hobbes and The Perishers too, all of which are similarly 'gentle' humour, but this really was lame by comparison. Considering this is for the 10th anniversary of Garfield, I was expecting something rather better. 1.5/5

Love the size of this book as well as the vibrant colors--it really made these comics pop! There were a few repeats but for the most part most of these were new to me. A few made me laugh. A couple had me wheezing and crying. The best collection I've read so far!

Cool 😎 mixture of Garfield comics. Garfield was my little brother's ♥️ favorite cartoon. He looked forward to Saturday cartoons and Sunday comics in the newspaper 📰 ☺️ 😄. So when I think of Garfield I remember my little brother.

Classic Garfield. Brings back memories when I was younger! Garfield trying to 'help' Jon with getting ready for dates, Garfield 'playing' with Odie, Garfield's characters in his dreams....All his antics in there!

Who doesn't love Garfield? This is a very quick read, but brings back memories of childhood reading Garfield in the paper.
