Old secrets are rising up to haunt the inhabitants of Louisiana's small, rustic St. Germaine Parish, where no one is quite who they seem, and restless spirits are rumored to roam the woods and the antebellum mansion of the town's richest family, the St. Michels.
Successful New York City artist Mignon Thibeaux doesn't believe in ghosts, but even she can't resist the rumors that the St. Michel mansion may be haunted, especially since its owner, Luc St. Michel, was the same man whom her mother ran off with 25 years ago before disappearing into thin air. Convinced that there was more to her mother's strange departure, Mignon returns to her hometown of LaValle, Louisiana to investigate. Once there, she doesn't know who she can trust - from the handsome, rugged sheriff who seems to have his own agenda, the guarded Louisiana Supreme Court judge who hides behind a wall of lies, and finally to Eleanor St. Michel, Luc's vindictive wife, who is relentless in her pursuit of the supernatural, convinced that the séances she hosts in the dead of night will appease the spirits and put an end to the hauntings.
Bayou Moon is a gripping tale of murder, revenge, and voodoo in small town Louisiana that captures all the ambience and charm of the rural South. Someone has a secret that must be kept hidden, and God help the one who tries to uncover it...
C.L. Bevill has been in the U.S. Army, cleaned floors, a graphic illustrator, a therapist, and a stay at home mother. She lives in the Alabama area with her husband and daughter and keeps plugging away at the next great American novel.
1 part Southern-gothic + 1 part Southern charm + dash of romantic suspense + pinch of voodoo = “Bayou Moon”. Mix one part Southern-gothic with one part Southern charm, add a dash of romantic suspense and a pinch of voodoo, and you’ve got “Bayou Moon”. Migon Thibeaux, now a successful artist, moves back to the small Louisiana town where she was born, in hopes of solving the mystery of her mother – who supposedly ran off with her lover when Mignon was just a little girl. This was an incredibly well-developed novel, and although it does not end in a cliffhanger, I strongly recommend reading the sequel “Crimson Bayou” when you’re finished – if you’re anything like me, you’ll be excited to return to Louisiana with Ms. Bevill!
Garlande Thibeaux disappeared 25 years ago with her lover. Her daughter, artist Mignon, believes she was murdered and so she has come back La Valle, Louisiana to get the murderer to confess.
There is a strong paranormal thread running thru this investigation into a possible murder. It heightens the suspense and caused twists and turns to my who-done-it list. Excellent plotting, great character development and pacing that caused me to want to not to have to put the book down for even a minute.
Bayou Moon by C L Bevil. Successful New York artist Mignon Thibeaux returns for first time in 25 years to her birthplace of LaValle parish in Louisiana to find out what happened to her mother who had, reportedly , run off with the head of the local richest family. Her return stirs up quite a hornets nest.
Bayou Moon is a great summer read, mostly because it takes place on the bayou - hence, a lot of heat and southern flavor to match the current climate. I've always loved to match my reading with the season, and this is a perfect fit. Good solid plot (if somewhat predictable in the romance department) with a back story that unwinds throughout the course of the novel, and a good old fashioned nail-biter in the closing chapters. The story of a local-girl-turned-famous who returns to her childhood home in order to solve the mysteries of her past is captivating and well-told. This author does have a tendency to head-hop, and occasionally we get the viewpoints of several people all within the same chapter, but I have come to accept the idea that I'm overly sensitive to this due to my writer's group - and perhaps people who aren't looking, aren't bothered at all? At any rate, I see a lot of it, even in the most respected authors, and I don't feel as though it truly hampers this story in any way. For the most part, this is a great novel to just sink into and devour. Enjoyed it a lot.
Her mother ran off with the local gentry, she and her father were run out of town....years later she returns many laters looking for answers. And eventually she gets the answers after rsiking her life to learn long lost secrets. Add in a little superstition, some romance and you have an excellent read.
I chose this rating because the characters were so well written it was like knowing each and everyone of them. Hope both families find the peace they deserve.
