Kate O'Hearn was born in Toronto Canada, but raised in the heart of New York City and has lived in many places throughout her life. These days, she calls the south coast of England home. She has 3 brothers, no sisters and is passionate about animals and their causes and has many animal friends. (Pets)
Over the course of her life she has had several careers before finding her real love, writing children's books. Being the only girl in family of boys, she grew up a true tom-boy and always loved books with high adventure. But one of the problems she discovered was a lack of female leads in these adventure books.
When she started to write, Kate decided to address this imbalance and now writes high fantasy adventures with strong, compassionate and adventure loving girl heroes. There are plenty of boys in the story to keep it interesting and challenging, but she believes that a girl hero can be as brave, strong and adventurous as a boy.
This book was so exquisite I really enjoyed it I only wish that there were more to the series because it clearly shows that it could possibly continue but other than that I really liked it it showed a very different way to express dragons and the old knight ages it shows you that anything is possible and that through great troubles and hurt there are bigger rewards I really advise you read the first book because it will fascinate you by the difference that Kate o Hearn shows like moving through the characters like everyone is important and not just one person then realizing that the person you think is the main one turns out to actually not be the main character so fascinating.
A fantastic sequel to Kira. A book packed with twists that you never would have seen coming and with an ending that will shock you. I just fell in love with characters and their journey. I even have to admit I cried at one point and had to stay away until 2am just to know how it all would end.
3,5 estrellas. Actitudes, pensamientos, reacciones.
I think the cover on the book isn't the best but it really does go with the book so don't judge it by it's cover. I love the wierd adventure these heroes have to save the world and people they love. I love dragon stories too.
First off: I loved this series. I recommend it to all new readers who enjoy fantasy genres. (Old pet his real) despite the awful cover art, it's definitely worth the read.
this book really took for a loop. I was taken by surprise when it turned out to be the sister that fulfilled the prophesy. I loved the character responses to each other.

Kate O’hearn is in my opinion the one of the best fiction writer that I have found. Kate has written several series that include the Pegasus, Valkyrie, and Shadow of the Dragon series. She has also written Herm’s Secret which is not a book that is in a series. This book is at a lexile of 840. Kate also puts a lot of detail into her book to really help you better understand it.
In the book she explains a lot of things and it makes you want to keep reading and then when you get to the end of the series or can’t find the next book in the series you feel like you have lost all interest in reading. Like if pardon never lived so long Kira and her brother would have been stuck in the future and if Pardon’s great great great grandfather would have never lived then Elspeth would have never made it back to her own time. Her and Kira would’ve never seen each other again. If pardons family never had magic than Kira and Elspeth would have died in the first book. So if there is one thing missing from the story that is there, the story would be completely different.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It was such a good book that I would read it over and over and over again. With this book you can also escape from reality and be in your own world and imagination.
This book was a pain to finish. **SPOILERS** It started off having Kira and her band move to the future, while Elspeth went to the past. This future has no wildlife or trees left. I sort of understand that the author wanted to show how downhill our society is going, but no trees? Or animals? There is no way that anyone would keep living. Especially when it is filled with smoke like Kate describes. Highly unrealistic. I understand that this book is fantasy, but you can't put whatever you want in a book just to make it more angsty.
I don't want to even talk about the romances that happen in this book either. They were awkward and felt forced. As if the author just threw some in there in hopes of making the plot more interesting. It didn't work.
The final plot twists I saw coming from miles away. It was frustrating though, because Elspeth, Onnie, and Jinx should have actually died. You can't put multiple arrows in two people's chests and expect me to believe that they magically come back together because their magical bloods mixed.
Overall... this book was a huge disappointment after waiting for a year or two for me to be able to read it.
Well.... The ending kind of disappointed me but it wasn't that surprising. I wanted to read about Onnie being turned back and his wedding to Elspeth but okay... Kind of. Not really because she didn't even stay with her family which is understandable but couldn't she at least be there for the celebration?? Or what about the thing with Lord Dorcon? There's a possibility he is still alive? What! I mean... Okay ending. Did it make me feel satisfied? No, but it was okay, I guess.

I found this book to be an exceptionally emotional book to read which I would highly advise for anyone wanting a fantasy book centered around dragons. My favorite thing about this book is that the dragons are written about in such a way that they feel quite believable. Be warned though this book has some rather heavy moments with a story that will get you (or at least it got me) emotionally invested in the characters and events.
This book was soooo good it was maybe even better than the first. I am very sad that the author didn't get to finish the series though. There would be one thing that would have made it better but I guess it can go without. I can't wait to see how others love this book.
This sequel was so good! I liked the first novel, but this seemed to have something new on every page! So much happens in this novel that it's hard to believe it all fits into only 374 pages! The first half the book is so unpredictable and I just couldn't put it down! Although the novel is called Elspeth, it doesn't focus only on her - there is still changing points of view for characters not in the same place, as with the first novel (though it is still written in third person). O'Hearn has created a band of characters that are so loveable and memorable that when disaster strikes you truly feel for them. I was continuously left shocked at the end of chapters because something dramatic always happened! My only complaint is that there was one problem left unsolved, but was mentioned in the novel. I was expecting to see this occur in the book, but it is only implied that this event occurs after the novel is ended (very vague here but y'know, spoilers). Despite this, questions and mysteries created in the first novel are solved whilst creating new ones to stress me out during this sequel. We find out more about the wizard Elan and the prophecy and Onnie's past - this I particularly loved. This is definitely a 5-star novel, and I probably would have enjoyed it even more if it were YA or adult, because the writing is slightly premature.
I really liked this book the ending was thrilling as Elspeth got stronger and stronger. However I felt there was no reason to turn the little fox onie to the evil wizard. I thought that this completely ruined the book as I liked the little fox onnie just as he was! And because the little fox was turned into a wizard the wizard made Elspeth disgustingly lovesick until of course he was returned back to a fox. Apart from little onnie turning into onnie Astra it was fantastic.

After reading the first book, I could not wait until this one came out. I was very anxious to see what happened. It was not what I was expecting but still great. I have now heard some rumor about possibly a third book but that may or may not happen. So far, very impressed with Kate O'Hearn. www.kidswantbooks.com
In this equally amazing sequel to Shadow of the Dragon is amazing. Shadow got sent to a different time period than the rest of her family and friends. Well she does have her fox friend Onnie. Or so she thought. Want to learn more just read the book.
Not as good as the first in my opinion but still pretty good. Mitchell lived it and finaly got told he needed to read something else after reading it 5 times in a row.
