I got an advance look at Fitter Than Ever at 40 and Beyond, and I learned a lot. There are lots of health books out there with an emphasis on losing weight, usually with some crazy diet, but this book is all about fitness, both on keeping fit and actually improving your fitness level, so that as you age you can do all the things you want to do, without letting weight or physical limitations due to inactivity drag you down.

Dawson-Cook doesn’t sugarcoat her advice, but she is relatable. She has been fit, and she has been decidedly not so fit, and she discusses her upbringing, her emotional eating, and how she changed her bad habits for good. A fitness instructor for many years, she knows that if you don’t move or overhaul your diet, you won’t see the changes you want to see. What I liked most is that she gives small steps you can take that add up to big results, fitness-wise. For instance, if you have a habit of eating out a lot, it’s going to very hard to drop the pounds.

On a personal note, on Dawson-Cook’s advice, I dropped sugar from my diet and noticed that I immediately felt better, and also that as the weight came off, my appetite actually decreased. It was like she said, eating added sugar (which is found in lots of processed foods), actually increases your appetite.

I know this is a book I’ll refer back to for more fitness advice. I think this book will help a lot of people who want to age well and be at their best fitness level.

This is an extremely motivating book that I would recommend to everyone in their forties and beyond. Dawson-Cook, an expert in her field, doesn’t play down the fact that it takes work and determination to change bad habits. However, the book is filled with great information to help you tailor your own workable fitness program. I’m sure I will use the book as a reference from now on.

Fitter Than Ever At 40 And Beyond is a must read for anyone who wants to live their best, healthiest life. As a 47-year-old, this book resonated with me on many levels. Not only did it show me how to properly meet my nutritional needs, but it also taught me awesome techniques for incrementally increasing my level of fitness. I really liked it that the steps laid out for the reader were not overwhelming but instead extremely doable. Miss Dawson-Cook was straightforward in her delivery while still being personable and inspiring. I feel more motivated than ever to reach my highest level of fitness. I recommend this book for anybody who wants to do the same.
