When Jessie left home at eighteen, she swore she’d never go back. But when life takes a turn for the complicated, she’s forced to move in with her twin, Isaac, and his two best friends. To her dismay, one of these is Elliot, the boy Jessie once loved, until his life was changed forever by a terrible accident that Jessie still blames herself for.

Cohabiting with three alarmingly unhouse-trained males was not in Jessie’s life plan so when Isaac, Elliot and Arthur offer her a generous rent discount if she’ll help them with their ‘Boys to Men Project’, designed to end years of disastrous dating, she reluctantly accepts the challenge.

As Jessie embraces the comfort of being home, revelling in her new job at her parents’ day centre full of people determined to grow old disgracefully, she realises her housemates aren’t the only ones needing to make some changes. And maybe, if she can finally forgive herself for Elliot’s accident, she can start to look forward to a future, with or without him by her side.

Jessie finds herself in a bit of a predicament. She recently lost her job and her boyfriend, Seb, payer of all the bills, informs her he plans to travel for a year to find himself. Without her. Now she's jobless, homeless, and heading back home to her family for the first time in years.

Her twin brother Isaac said she can move in with him and his roommates. He has an extra bedroom after all. When Jessie arrives she's shocked to discover that Elliott Ollerton is one of his housemates. Jessie was madly in love with him in high school until a terrible accident sends Elliott into a coma. Luckily, he comes out of it but he has severe memory issues and doesn't seem to remember their magical night together. Jessie blames herself for the accident and what Elliott has had to endure since then.

Isaac's other roommate is Arthur and all three of these men could use some work in attracting the love of their life so they hire Jessie to help them learn to cook, dress, and charm in exchange for decreased rent. Dubbed the Boys to Men project it appears Jessie has her work cut out for her.

Will they all find love and happiness? You'll have to read this to find out!

With some books you grow to love and appreciate characters as they develop on page. The opposite happened here. The longer I spent with these characters the more I disliked them. The one exception being Elliott. He's the only reason I didn't ditch this book sooner.

Jessie is constantly weeping. Her guilt for Elliott's accident is ridiculous because she had nothing to do with it besides being there at the time. Isaac, known for always being a ladies man with numerous girlfriends, is now completely befuddled around a woman he loves and works with. Yes, he LOVES her even though they have never gone on one date. He can't form simple sentences around her and if he is able to say anything he does it by yelling at her. Like, what? 🤨 And Arthur is suppose to be the super nerdy guy that is socially awkward, loves video games, and going grave hunting. He too, is in LOVE with a co-worker he hardly knows. 🙄

With all this love in the air you'd think I'd be feeling it but NOPE! 💘 = 💩

Meanwhile, we're also suppose to be feeling the tension between Jessie and Elliott but alas, there wasn't any. No chemistry whatsoever. When they aren't coaching a soccer team together then she mostly just hides from him the entire time. While weeping.

There is also a subplot of Jessie working for her parents at a retirement center which I think was suppose to provide comic relief but I didn't find it humorous at all.

I honestly didn't think this book was ever going to end. At nearly 400 pages this book is too long. I skimmed from 75% to the finish just so I could be done with it.

I think it's safe to say that the cupids arrow missed my cold black heart this time around. 2 stars!

All the stars!
I've never read any Beth Moran books, but I loved this and will happily read everything she writes now!
This was just gripping and gorgeous. I was thinking about it when not reading, and I constantly looked forward to getting back to it. The characters are fantastic, I cared about all of them and was utterly invested in their story.
There was a lot of mystery surrounding the characters and their pasts, and it added so much drama to the plot. The pain and heartache they felt and how their past has affected them later in life was clear to read.
Wonderful.

Elliot remembers little about the freak accident that caused him so many ongoing problems with his memory and confidence – but Jessie has struggled with guilt about her part in it ever since, while mourning the loss of their very special secret relationship. Ten years later, Jessie – on the verge of homelessness, the man she hoped to marry having gone on a trip to find himself, and having run out of options – returns to her childhood village, moving into her twin brother Isaac’s spare room. There’s a job on offer too – working for her parents as activities co-ordinator at their day centre for the elderly, perhaps also helping out Isaac with the weddings he organises there at the weekends. But she didn’t know that he shared the house with two friends – funeral director (and oh-so-socially awkward!) Arthur, and Elliot.

While life at home is initially awkward – although Elliot’s support dog Penny is particularly welcoming, and Elliot himself unfailingly warm and friendly – her work at The Barn is an absolute joy. The friends who spend their days there have become known as The Outlaws – they might be getting on in life, but they’re hellbent on living life to the full and enjoying every moment of it. Keeping things under some kind of control becomes a constant challenge, as they all thrive on behaving badly – and it’s all very funny and non-stop entertainment, but with a few very poignant moments along the way.

At home, in return for a reduction on her rent, Jessie agrees to be the men’s life coach – the Boys to Men project – getting them to move on from their distinctly teenage-style obsessions, to help Isaac and Arthur win the hearts of the women they love, and cheering from the sidelines (that doesn’t last long – she soon becomes his assistant) as Elliot takes over as coach of the under-nines football team. And all the while, Jessie is on her own journey – building confidence in her own abilities, discovering what makes her happy, and reaching the point where she can make decisions about her own future.

This book was just glorious – the most wonderful humour, all perfectly judged, but quite a few other moments that really moved me to tears. The characters are quite wonderful – and perhaps none more so than the totally lovely Elliot, facing real challenges as a result of his brain damage, unable to function without post-it prompts around the house, finding it difficult in noisy settings, struggling to control his temper, fierce in providing opportunities for others (I’m no football fan, but some of those scenarios were just fantastic), and the most caring and gentle man.

The whole story is filled with warmth and love and hope, the difficult issues are so sensitively handled, there’s a lovely focus on family and friendship, the romance gets everything absolutely right, and the author’s writing has never been better – and I have to say that adored every single moment. Without question, one of my books of the year – and I recommend it really highly.

Jessie swore she would never move back home when she left years ago at the age of eighteen. With a change in her situation and circumstances, she moves back to her hometown and moves in with her twin brother Issac and his two best friends. One of those friends is Elliot, the boy that jessie was in love with before she left town and before an accident that changed his life forever. Jessie blames herself and still does. Jessie agrees to tutor the men with their social awkwardness and help them find romance, in exchange for a low rent. She also gets a job working at her parent's adult day centre for seniors and they develop many multi-age friendships which I love. Always planning to leave town when she makes enough money to get her own place, things begin to change, and she realizes that maybe she is right where she needs to be.

I really enjoyed this heartwarming story dealing with family, friendships, multi-generational relationships, and romance that had lots of humour that had me laughing out loud more than once. The characters were all wonderful. Elliot has some residual issues from his accident, but he is able to be a contributing member of society, and be in a relationship, even though he has a traumatic brain injury. Issac, Elliot and Arthur are a hoot. They are gamers, slobs, and really have no idea how to talk to women. It was so funny seeing them try and develop relationships with Jessie's help. The funniest moments are at the Adult Day Centre. The clients are hilarious. They do not want to grow old gracefully and have many funny situations that I enjoyed. I definitely recommend this story for those who enjoy stories of family, friendship, romance and personal growth.

I've read several Beth Moran books and absolutely loved them. This one, however.... . WAY too much boring detail on her job, her day-to-day life, etc. I stopped reading at 50% cuz I just didn't feel like forcing my way through it.

I would give this book 3.5 stars it was a lovely read something light. However it did take 35 chapters for the main characters to even get a little spark in their relationship I feel that could have come earlier then right at the end of the book. Other than that it was a pleasant read.

Beth Moran shows us that life often has a way to be its wonderful genius self if you let it, and people (whatever their age) can be formidable towards one another. This was a lovely book with a dash of Queer Eye fun and laugh out loud characters, I will now get on with my day with an extra bounce in my step.

Another Beth Moran book down. Another Beth Moran book made me realize why I loved books like Let It Snow. It was the way that Beth Moran writes not only her books but her characters that make you just want to read more. That makes you want to know what is going to happen next. I loved how Beth Moran makes you feel the emotions that main characters like Jessie are feeling in a book like this.

I loved how there are things like autism represented as in one of the character’s sons has autism. I think that it was something that I enjoyed reading about. I think that it was done greatly to where it didnt feel overdone. I did enjoy that this book shined a spotlight on those who might have mental and physical disabilities and show that they can still live a fulfilling life despite having autism, cerebral palsy, etc.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jessie’s boyfriend up and kind of leaving her to figure out things on her own. I know that if he didn’t then Jessie wouldn’t have probably gotten over things that happened in the past and be able to live the life that she deserves. But I am glad that Jessie had people to help and support her through this time when she could find things that made her happy and not because of the fact it made others happy.

I felt like there were parts of myself that I could see in Jessie. Mainly because when she’s around Elliot, she feels guilty about what happened. I think that is because I feel guilty about things that aren’t my fault and they feel like they are. It is something that I don’t like about myself and I was glad to see a character that had flaws and had things that they are struggling with that they are trying to overcome.

I think that this was an amazing read and I can not wait for the next Beth Moran book.

so it took until the last chapter for some kind of “spark” to happen and confess that they like each other… it wasn’t a bad book but it really dragged on and it was so predictable and i don’t feel fulfilled after reading it

ALWAYS ON MY MIND - BETH MORAN.

I’m a big fan of Beth Moran’s writing. Her books are a reliably good read and always an automatic buy for me.
#AlwaysOnMyMind is another beauty from this clever lady.

It probably won’t come as a surprise when I say that I loved this book.
It kicks off with a touching and powerful prologue , before we are thrown into the main body of the story.

There is a vast mix of characters in this book. It had a lovely sense of inclusivity and it truly felt that everyone belonged.
The older generation are outstanding and lead by example… all be it sometimes a bad one, but they are so much fun and definitely not growing old gracefully.
I want to find my own group of ‘outlaws’ to behave badly with in my dotage.

Jessie is a likeable main character. She has a kind heart and a sensible head.

I really did feel for Elliot. His journey is a tough one. Despite everything, his beautiful soul shines through.

Happily ever afters are more than deserved by so many characters in this book.

#AlwaysOnMyMind is beautifully written, with great humour, touching emotion and some sweet romance tucked in there too.
Beth Moran has written about issues like brain injury, with honestly and knowledge. It’s good to see subjects like this being included.

I felt a lot of emotions while reading this book. It made me tearful (happy and sad tears), it made me hopeful and most of all it made laugh and smile, before leaving me with a lovely warm heart full of happy.
Just gorgeous!

Always On My Mind by Beth Moran

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

Sometimes when you can’t see the way forwards, the best thing to do is to look back...

My Opinion

Beth Moran has written another delightful novel here - I have yet to find a book that hasn't grabbed my attention. Jessie left home at eighteen and unexpectedly finds herself needing to move in with her twin brother and his housemates. This was a lovely, cosy book to curl up and read and would make a lovely holiday read. For me, the ending came too soon - I wasn't ready to let the characters go.

If you enjoy Beth Moran's previous novels then this is definitely a book you should read. A highly enjoyable read!

When Jessie's partner tells her he's off to see the world, without her, her life crumbles. After vowing never to move back in with the parents, she finds herself in the spare room at her brothers house.

Does love blossom for Jessie and Elliott, can she ever stop blaming herself for his accident? That would be telling, and I don't want to ruin this gorgeous story for you!

Jessie was by far my favourite character, she soon became mother of the house, helping the lads embark on their Boys to Men project, starting with cookery lessons to woo a lady.

The characters are all likeable, loveable and the kind of people that you'd love to be part of their friendship circle.

Always on my Mind is a gorgeous second chance romance that will make you cry tears of sadness, then find yourself smile through the tears.

Moran is one of my go-to feel good fiction authors who never disappoints.

Many thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for my tour spot.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 stars.
An interesting read with a tragic episode at the core of the main romantic relationship and unique protagonists, “Always on my Mind”, by Beth Moran (Boldwood Books), has some funny moments mostly due to its different, quirky characters.
The story of Jessica, the story narrator, and Elliot, is equally beautiful and tragic. I loved them both as characters and I wish we’d have more scenes with them together.
Guilt-ridden Jessie is a mess who’s so radically unaware of her self-worth and kindness. I liked how she was propelling so much change for the better around her, being cherished and loved by all, and still so clueless about it.
Elliot is such a wonderful hero. The way he dealt with his issues was … poignant and matter-of-fact. I loved his thoughtfulness, sense of fairness and how he fights so fiercely for the underdog.
The secondary characters are diversely unique and originate several comedic episodes. Jessie’s brother, Isaac, and Arthur’s initial ineptness in the dating field was cute.
I also liked the little players and the Outlaws and their crazy antics.
I appreciated the fact these characters are affectionate and enjoy spending time with each other, and aren’t afraid of showing fondness and love.
I also liked the slow revelation of Elliot’s issues through Jessie’s unreliable point of view.
I felt a bit frustrated in the end because I wanted more about Elliot and more interaction between him and Jessie and less with the other characters.
I also felt that they could have talked earlier in the story.

Always On My Mind is a funny, heartfelt contemporary romance perfect for anyone who likes a cosy read. It’s also the first book I’ve read by Beth Moran, but it definitely won’t be my last.

After returning home to live with her twin brother Isaac and his two best friends Arthur and Elliot, Jessie is forced to confront her past, her present, and her future, all while trying to forge a new life for herself. Things are complicated from the get-go, and it’s only with the help of her family and a new job that she starts to untangle herself, letting old ghosts rest and new opportunities open her eyes to what she’s been missing.

This book is a light, uplifting story that also deals with more serious topics such as guilt and disability. A good dose of humour balances everything out, and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the elderly people that Jessie finds herself charged with. I love older people and their fascinating lives, and it was great to see them take centre stage.

The cast of quirky characters is what makes Always On My Mind so entertaining, not to mention the lovely Elliot and his history with Jessie. Their relationship builds really well, and I enjoyed seeing them slowly help each other face their demons. I’d have liked to have seen more of their romance as it progressed further, but maybe that means there’s room for a sequel one day.

I really liked this book, and it’s given me another author to add to my auto-read list. I love a small town romance, and that’s exactly what I got from Always On My Mind — what more could I ask for?!

The storyline had some merit to it, but it’s written so poorly I couldn’t get into it.

Jessie is a self-pitying main character who spends most of the book crying, and not actually helping the boys with their “boys to men” project.

It was clear from the start that Jessie was going to end up with Elliot - I really thought I would feel chemistry between the two of them after the first few pages, but as the book goes on there was *none*. Even at the end when they finally get together it was heavily underwhelming.

The tone between all the characters doesn’t change, there’s no range of writing skill there. The 9 year olds on the football team talk as if they have the same life experience as the elderly in the day centre. I found myself skipping most of those pages of descriptions as it felt like filler pages. Chapters would end and begin right in the middle of events in the story, making it really hard to read, the natural breaks just weren’t in the right spot. Also found a few typos!

Picked up as an easy holiday romance, but found myself willing it to be finished. I’m actually not sure how I got to the end of it, just glad I didn’t pay as it was on Kindle Unlimited. Don’t bother!

An entertaining read that mixes romance, fun characters, and silly scenarios. This is the story of Jessie and Elliot, who get a second chance at love after they fell in love in high school but were separated by an accident that left Elliot with a brain injury affecting his memory. The story is sweet and heartwarming, but it also deals with some heavy topics, such as guilt and forgiveness. Beth Moran handles these themes with sensitivity, making the story all the more enjoyable.

Of course I found myself rooting for Jessie and Elliot from the beginning. However, this is a super slow burn... and I wished there were more interactions between the two. I also felt like they could have talked earlier in the story, which could have given us those interactions. But that's just me. The supporting characters, especially the flat mates and the Outlaws, added that extra layer of humor and warmth to the story. Moran did a great job of bringing them to life and making them feel like real and unique people. Overall, an entertaining rom com.

This was not a romance! Or if it was the last 3 chapters and an Epilogue are missing!

Strap in people, I'm going on a rant.

If I had been reading the physical copy of the book I would have thrown it across the room. (As it was I slammed my phone on the bed)

We hardly got to know Elliott. I know more about the cast of quirky side characters and their romances than I do about the main characters. Heck I know more about her PARENTS than I do about the MCs!

I want more Elliott.
I want a better resolution.
I want Jessie to own up to reality and deal with her life WAY sooner than the last chapter and THEN just in the moment that I'm ready for Jessie and Elliot to finally feel like a couple we got ZERO chance to enjoy it. The reader is cock blocked by the side characters. (Again, I frustratingly know more about their relationship than the main characters!!). I have book blue balls!!

I don't even want sex or kissing on the page, but I do want some kind of time or SOMETHING with the MCs for longer than 2 sentences. UGH!! 😫😤😠. Give me an Epilogue, a year later with the football team, or visiting one of the side characters as they help them move into their new place, honestly I'll take ANYTHING over the nothing we get.

If you know me, I get the most frustrated when there is POTENTIAL for it to be really good and it falls short. A poorly written or a 'bad book' can be read and still enjoyed. A good book, with the potential to be a great one, that falls short, just makes me irate.

I'm clearly irate.
Such a waste.

I've not read many of this authors books but the ones I have I thought were really well written with excellent characterisation. Well dear readers, this one is no different. It deals with the tricky subjects of brain injuries and associated problems and also with aging and loss. This makes it sound like a gloomy read but not at all. Some of the older folk ' the outlaws ' in this book had me laughing out loud with their antics. Yes it's a romance but so beautifully written with heart rending people all intermingling with each other. Our main female is really having trouble with the guilt she carries, it was hard not to feel such sympathy with her. However we have a good mix of the weird and wonderful in this book, I would recommend it as a very different read.

Enjoy the Ride with Beth Moran's Always on My Mind...
Beth Moran has done it again! Her newest book, Always On My Mind, is a heartfelt story of love, acceptance, and redemption that will leave you wanting more... You will truly find it difficult to say goodbye to these wonderful characters!

In this charming story, Jessie has to move back in with her twin brother and his two best friends. But one of those friends happens to be their mutual childhood best friend, Elliot — the boy she once secretly loved and left behind after a tragic accident resulting in a near-death experience changed his life forever leaving him with a brain injury that affects his memory... while Jessie blames herself for what happened.

Jessie's journey is an enjoyable ride full of delightful surprises. With each chapter, we get to know Jessie better as we follow her through her new job at her parents' day center supporting rambunctious seniors aging with vigor.

We also get to tag along while she helps her housemates "makeover" their disastrous social skills. Through these events, we watch as Jessie's inner relationship develops and she comes into her own... learning more about herself than she ever thought possible.

Let’s dive into what makes this book so special...

Writing Style
For starters, let's talk about Beth Moran's writing style. Her writing is heartwarming, filled with witty banter, and sure to draw readers in from the very first page to the very end. Moreover, the main characters she creates are one-of-a-kind, vibrant, and likable. They feel like people you could actually meet on the street... or wish you could at least!

Each character has their own unique backstory that Moran weaves expertly throughout the narrative via masterful character development that allows readers to truly connect with each character as they navigate their struggles together.

In addition to being an entertaining read, this book also offers resonating themes such as forgiveness, inclusivity, and personal growth that many readers can relate to.

As such, this book makes for an enjoyable escape while also teaching valuable lessons about life along the way.

Story Setting
The setting of this book is quite distinctive as well. It takes place during a particularly turbulent time for Jessie as she deals with her tenuous current relationship as well as her past feelings for Elliot.

The descriptions used by Moran transport readers directly into Jessie’s world while still leaving plenty of room for interpretation and personalization.

Every reader can take away something different from this story depending on their own life experiences — which makes reading romance all the more enjoyable.

Theme Of Love
Finally, there is an underlying theme of love that permeates throughout this book — not just romantic love but familial love too.

But the real gem of this story is the exploration of loving our community... and all the different types of people who make up a community.

Moran does an excellent job at illustrating how a community can often be complicated but ultimately filled with loving relationships that we should cherish no matter what circumstances life has thrown a person's way.

It's a beautiful message that anyone can relate to — and benefit from — regardless of where they are in life right now.

All in all, Always On My Mind by Beth Moran is an incredible read full of warmth and wit.

Even if you don't usually enjoy contemporary romances, this one is sure to capture your heart — and remind you that sometimes embracing the present moment one step at a time can be just what we need when moving forward feels overwhelming or uncertain.

Sometimes we need to wear a sign saying "temporarily undergoing maintenance", right?!... As you read this book, wear your "sign" with a smile...

The novel culminates in unforgettable sequences that will leave you feeling satisfied yet hungry for more, making Always On My Mind an absolute must-read for those looking for a great book escape on your "reading menu" with some added wisdom on the side.

If you’re looking for a mostly lighthearted small town story, look no further. Jessie left home at eighteen, trying to run away from circumstances she blamed herself for. No matter where she went, she couldn’t shake the past, or forget.

She’s forced to come home after years away and moves in with her twin Isaac and two of his friends. She doesn’t realize that her first love, Elliot, is one of her roommates. All of her feelings come flooding back.

‘Looking back on what ifs and if onlys: those kinds of regrets will only hurt you.’

I’m a fan of this author. My favorite book she’s written so far is Just the Way You Are. Pick this one up for a heartwarming, touching read.

Let me preface this review by saying that I am not one for books that make me *feel* too much; the only feelings I want are of suspense. I mostly stick in the thriller/mystery genre.

But while browsing NetGalley, something about this cover and the description piqued my interest. When I got approved, I took it as a sign that I needed to read this book.

And wow am I glad I did.

"Always On My Mind" follows MC Jessie, who is essentially lost and drowning in the current state of her life. Her boyfriend of 3 years says he needs a change of scenery to reset, just for a few months, and when he returns they can get engaged and plan their life together. Jessie agrees, but is left without a place to live as the one she shared with her boyfriend was no longer an option. Her only choice is to head back home -- a place she has long avoided, ever since the accident.

Jessie's plan to survive home, work and save up for three months, and get back to her boyfriend quickly unravels as she realizes she might actually like, maybe even love, being home. She has a job that excites, family she loves, and housemates she likes so much that she agreed to "coach" them into being suitable partners for the women of their dreams.

But above all, there's Elliot and the feelings that stir up whenever they're together but the ever-lingering feeling of guilt because of his accident 10 years prior.

This was a simply wonderful coming-of-age story. Jessie is somewhat of a mess and as someone in a similar boat, man, was I rooting for her. All of the characters are so incredibly likeable, and you want to see them get their own happy ending. They were all so unique - quirky, endearing, loyal, supportive. And as someone who doesn't care for love stories, I was feeling all of the feels - and I didn't hate it! In fact, I loved it. Every time I had to put the book down, I was eager to pick it up again because I wanted to see how or if Jessie's life came back together or what her next encounter with Elliot would be like.

I think this book is a great read for anyone looking for a super feel-good story, but more importantly, anyone who feels stuck in a rut in their current chapter of life. It instills hope to its readers, and has certainly made me want to read the rest of Moran's catalogue.

The only thing that didn't work for me was some of the big moments in the book were told in past tense, so rather than the reader being there while ____ is happening, it was told as "oh and a few days ago this happened". I personally like to be in the moment with the character, but the story itself was so wonderful that it was easy to look past!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
