As far as Thangka books go, it's not a great introduction. It's not terrible, and there a lot of pretty illustrations, but the illustrations often don't line up with the text (why would they spend half a chapter talking about Guru Rinpoche and put up a bunch of Tara thangkas beside it instead of a thangka of him?). The section on techniques for making thangkas is pretty good, as sometimes it's ignored entirely in thangka painting books. Otherwise, this should be lower on your reading list if you want to read about Tibetan art. On the plus side: Not very expensive.
