Opposites Attack: Turning Your Differences into Opportunities by Jack and carole Mayhall (1-Jan-1992) Paperback

Rate this book
This was an outstanding book to help men and women improve their marriages, or applied in a broader sense, to improve any interpersonal relationship. The book uses the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test to frame the many different ways that husbands and wives are different. The authors, a happily married couple of 40 years at the time of publication and opposites in almost every respect, show us how marrying your opposite is a very positive thing and part of God's plan to help us grow and mature in our marriage. The authors use many biblical references, both Old and New Testament, to reveal to us God's plan for a happy marriage. I highly recommend having your Bible handy while reading this book. As the authors described themselves using the MBTI, I saw how my wife and I were much like them. The book makes it clear that in this current age of 50% divorce rates, much of the cause of that is that not enough people make God an integral part of their marriage, nor do they understand what God's plan is for us. The language of the book is clear and concise and provides many excellent illustrations to make their points. As you read this book you will find yourself nodding your head many times saying, "Yes, that's me!" or "Yes, that's my spouse!" The authors also provide concrete, practical things for a married couple to do to strengthen their marriage. I highly recommend that every couple engaged to be married, in addition to getting premarital counseling, read this book. It doesn't matter if it's your first or fifth marriage. Also, for couples having problems, perhaps starting to contemplate divorce as an option, but who really want to save their marriage, this book is a must read. It is a book I will refer back to again and again.
