Most jobs are unpublished and you have to network to find them. You must deliberately and purposefully build a Super Network. Identify and categorize all of your relatives, friends and acquaintances. Prepare for each telephone call and every visit. Research companies you plan to approach. Customize your resume and your approach - sell what you can do for that particular person or company. Set objectives, record them and monitor your progress. Find a mentor and treat the mentor as your boss in your job quest. When you receive an offer, negotiate strategically and know when to walk away. Keep your network alive even after you find a job. Become a resource for others - you never know when you might need them again.
I found the advice in this book to be a bit pushy. The author advocates banging down a lot of doors, almost to the point of harassment, in order to get to talk to people. For introverts like me, this is not the best way to go about the job search.
