An avid reader of science fiction and fantasy novels all my life, I began writing The Guardian's Apprentice in 2002. After eight years of on-again, off-again writing, I finally published my first novel in August 2010. I live in rural Kentucky with my family and our six feline companions. When not acquiring recruits for my wife's ever growing cat army (which are terribly hard to train, by the way), I enjoy spinning stories out of the wisps of magic around me.

This is an awesome set of three stories that tie into the Beyond the Veil series. Best read after reading the first in the series "The Guardian's Apprentice", but can be read alone.

Forsaken- Explains alot of what happened to bring events to their current situation. I liked her before-now my heart breaks for her.

Tears for Hesh - I really almost cried for him. Such a sad story and sad ending. Does he really have to end here??

Scale of a Dragon- I read the story as a standalone and rated it separately-suffice to say I loved it and it is what got me wanting to read the rest of the series.

In the back of the book there are many descriptions of things/people in the book and it helps to solidify/clarify the characters.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I think that if you love fantasy, especially including dragons or wizards, and short stories-this is the book for you!

I enjoyed the short stories in this collection. They are beautifully written, dark and mysterious. My favorite of the three is definitely Scale of a Dragon. Callen is an endearing character and I look forward to learning more about her when I read The Guardian's Apprentice.
