This baseball treasury is perfect for Giants fans of all ages who love their team – and love great stories too. Going back to the early days in New York, this book covers all the greatest Giants heroes, from old-timers like John McGraw and Christy Mathewson to the mighty Mays, McCovey, and Marichal, all the way through the wild cast of characters who became 2010 World Series Champions. Readers get to experience the thrills (and the occasional heartbreaks) as they relive some of the team’s most memorable moments.
This was a great little book that was fun and easy to read. Although I love the Giants, I'm too young to remember any of the stories that almost everyone else knows about. Great Giants Stories is meant for kids and clearly written with that in mind, but that didn't stop it from telling the stories in an easy-to-take-in way. Anyone who recently became a Giants fan would also benefit from this book because it covers all the great games and names that you'll hear about every time the Giants are discussed. It is slightly hard to follow when discussing the games themselves because it covers every aspect of each game, but it was easy to get used to. Overall, Great Giants Stories is an enjoyable crash course in Giants history perfect for any fan, young or old, who needs a bit of help getting up to the speed of the great San Francisco Giants.
Nice history of the SF Giants. Actually goes back to the beginning of the franchise covering the Giants when they were in New York too. I brought back a lot of good memories. I like the way it covered the 2010 and 2012 World Series in depth. Hopefully they will do another addition after the 2016 World Series since they will be winning that too. It is an even year coming.
I plan on giving it to my son who is a relatively new fan. It will give him a history of a great franchise. None of the bad stuff which makes it incomplete but very positive. Forgot about when they were going to be moving to Tampa, Florida. Glad they were saved for SF and got the beautiful ballpark.
Great franchise and fun little book all fans should read.
Written for young readers, this delightful book is a must for SF Giants fans of all ages. Stats, but not too many to be boring; no-frills human interest tidbits; enthusiasm for the team without being overly "Homer" in tone (except perhaps by its avoidance of the Barry Bonds scandal), I thoroughly enjoyed reading about 100-plus years of my favorite team. This book was no "TORTURE" to read.
Pick this independent book up from local Bay Area bookstores like Hicklebee's in San Jose!
Great book full of brief Giants histories dating back to the beginning of baseball through the World Series victory last year. Must read for any Giant fan. I read it in one sitting, about 1 1/2 hours.
A fun book to read, especially right before baseball season starts up again. It takes you through the highlights of the Giants over the years. The last chapter (on the 2012 World Series) seemed shorter and rushed than the 2010 Series.
