She saw something and it might just change everything.
People often overlook what’s right in front of their eyes, preferring the fake version of things rather than the truth. Hiding beneath the image of what everyone else expects you to be will end up hurting them all in the long term. The members of the Richardson family are experts at pretending. They’ve all been doing it for years. How long will they get away with it? How far are they willing to go to maintain their flawless standing in the community?
A family vacation to Lake Clear might seem like a good idea at first, but it might just be the biggest mistake they ever make.

I couldn’t put this book down! Another great book by Michelle Young and definitely my favourite of hers so far. I felt so invested in each member of the Richardson family’s narrative. Highly recommend!
This was a heavy read as the reader gains access to the internist thoughts, motivations, insecurities, and secrets of a family who isn’t quite like they appear from the outside.
As their details unravel, many readers may see and feel themselves unraveling too. The heaviness, for me, was in the relatability…
Cages, although not my favourite was incredibly special! Young is talented writer, creating a deep and rich atmosphere. I felt like I was inside the cabin, the cave and well… the cage that her characters experience. Living in the Ottawa Valley and reading a book based in your hometown has been such special experience. I’m so thankful i stumbled upon this book, it just fell a little flat for me! I was hoping for more from the ending but realizing it is a women’s fiction not a thriller like I thought puts the story into better perspective. 3.5 stars rounded down!
