Cory Phillips is spending a semester studying abroad in London. In need of a job, he lands a position as a clerk in a gift shop that caters to tourists on London’s famous ghost walks. There he meets Alexi Lovegood, a charming and handsome man who plays the ghost of Sir Donovan Cartwright on one of the tours. As romance blossoms amid the campy fun, something spooky in the mist of London’s streets threatens to intervene…
This was absolutely adorable! I loved the characters and Loved when he played the ghost, he was hilarious. Only thing was it was too short. I need more. I hope they get a Christmas story or something more. I need to know what happens when the MC finishes school.
Cory is an American student studying in London for a semester and finds himself working for a tourist gift shop that caters to crowds frequenting the many ghost tours of London. It is definitely an interesting job, but it becomes better when he meets Alexi, a charming and sexy man who plays the ghost of Sir Donovan Cartwright as he changes in the store after every night’s tour. They strike up a smitten friendship that quickly becomes more when Alexi invites Cory out for drinks and to see one of his tours. Only, something strange happens in a dark alleyway on the tour, and Cory can’t quite decide what is really going on.
This was a fun little story that had a nice balance of characters and romance with a little dash of spook. Certainly not scary, maybe a little creepy if you ask me, in a way that I surely didn’t expect! Still, I thought it was well balanced, light and fun. I liked Cory, though he came off as a pretty stereotypical American student studying abroad, a product most likely from the fact that this was such a short snippet of a story. Alexi was certainly dashing, but again, that could be me imaging his suave and sexy accent through Cory’s POV. No matter how stereotypical they might have seemed to me though, I certainly thought they were well matched, as the tone was light and fun, and as the seriousness of a new relationship and its future isn’t really the point of the story.
All in all, a solid B- story for me — not unremarkable, but not entirely great either.
