Her work is typically serialized in one of Hakusensha's two shōjo manga anthologies, Bessatsu Hana to Yume and Hana to Yume. In 2010, Kaori Yuki was one of many manga artists whose work would appear in the new shōjo manga anthology Aria by the publisher Kodansha on July 28, 2010. Her doujinshi-ka name is MoonClock.
I think The Cain Saga, and its sequel Godchild, have the most messed up and tragic characters I've seen so far. It's dark, it's gloomy. Don't expect happy endings in these two mangas, dead bodies keep pilling up. All the characters are so complex.
The Cain Saga art is not as good as Godchild, one can guess the artist art was not mature yet unlike when she made Godchild much later. Still it's a must to read to fully understand what happens in Godchild. There are a lot of good contents to find there too (like about how Oscar and Cain met). In the other hand, Godchild's art is so beautiful it's mesmerizing. The characters are so beautifully drawn and each have their unique look.
The hero Cain gets involved in different events so the mangas are a bit like short stories put together, all of them involving some supernatural of some sort. He has on his side the ever faithful Riff, his butler and friend. But in the background lies his father's shadow and his secret organization, who become Cain's ennemy throughout the series. Among the ennemies is the fascinating half-brother of Cain, Jizabel, who is also part of said organisation. Jizabel is helped by Cassian.
It's interesting to see the mirror relationship between Cain and the protective Riff and Jizabel and the protective Cassian.
I really love these two mangas. I love rereading them, going back into the story, and seeing again those fascinating characters living briefly up until the ending.
P.S. My review is about both series. I got The Cain Saga in French since the Englih version was not out.
Wow...just wow. It’s so much more complex than I ever imagined. All I want is to know what Delilah plans. The backstory of the Jezebel is pretty sad. No wonder that he feels the hate against Cain. He was just replaced and exchanged. Alexis is an evil evil man.
I liked Mikaela. She reminded me of Shuzette, not only from her outward ness, but also her character. She was so determined to have her love, like Shuzette was. Merry really is the best and my favourite character. She does everything to make her brother happy and loves everyone without judging. She’s the best!

Exceedingly darker and more tragic. Although, there are too many chance encounters where they all get away, Kaori Yuki has a gift with creating even more disturbing pasts. It is disheartening to know that I only have one novel left in the series before I have completed it.

Review: A detective manga series that draws a lot of inspiration from classic gothic horror fiction and tropes. It's a love letter to writers such as Agatha Christie, Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, the Bronte sisters, the Grimm brothers and even Shakespeare. Family curses, a brutal father and son rivalry, religious allegory, destined betrayal, violent supernatural murders, dark fairy tale undertones, a gloomy atmosphere and melancholy characters. The art is flowery and gorgeous to look at, the classic tropes are pleasant for fans of classic horror elements and there's a few scenes that pack quite an emotional punch. It's a bit melodramatic and over-the-top at times, but it actually gives it more of that authentic, pulpy feel of popular penny dreadfuls from the Victorian era.
This series just keeps getting weirder and weirder but in a good way, I never imagined I could enjoy something as bizarre as this. I mean normally the idea of incest would make me want to dnf a books but it actually gives the story a purpose. The next book is the last one and I keep wondering how it is going to end and I am excited to see where it takes me.

Hier nun haben wir das Ende von Mikaela, die ich zum Ende doch gemocht habe. Weiterhin erfahren wir endlich die komplette Vergangenheit von dem Doktor, die erneut grausam ist.
Well, this one was as melodramatic as ever. Not quite as entertaining as the previous volume though. I DID like what Mary Weather had to say about what love is though. She was pretty much spot on.
In the category of "How I take this manga far more seriously than it deserves," I will note that along with the opera trappings, there is a remarkably consistent thematic focus on defining love. Alexis tries to teach his sons, proteges, followers, and human tools that love is hate and fear, because it induces them to depend on him; he may even believe this himself, as he has no conception of any loyalty that is not ensured by psychological dependence and physical need. He has taught his sons to believe that scars are love, and it is a sign of his deep contempt for Jizabel that he hands his whip over to a substitute instead of applying the lash himself. Merriweather is the most significant voice of opposition to this philosophy, declaring that love requires sacrifice, kindness, and the elevation of another's needs above one's own. (I kind of like that the "good" philosophy is almost as creepy and problematic as the evil one.)
This was better than the previous volume, but it still wasn’t good if you compare it to how wonderful the beginning of the series was. I feel like my interest in the story has been going downhill for a while now and I’m only continuing so I can be done with it. The story took a weird turn with the Mikaila and Cain situation. The father was pretty much going to . To be honest, I didn’t quite understand the whole thing. I think it was something that should have been left out because it was weird and didn’t add much to the story.
The part that dealt with Jizabel’s backstory was the only part I actually enjoyed. I still think Jizabel is a creep what with him collecting people’s eyeballs and stuff. However, the pet lamb situation was so messed up and I felt really bad for how crappy his childhood was. The father is just an overall terrible person. I mean, it doesn’t excuse Jizabel’s behavior, but you can kind of understand why he is the way he is.
This volume brought upon a mini climax which I felt was unnecessary. To see Cain captured, locked up, threatened, informed, and then let go seemed inadequate for a volume that wasn't final. I also thought Jizabel's back story was awkwardly placed, but then again, this usually happens in manga. It was also rather stupid for Jizabel to proclaim, "I will be the one to kill you! ... But later!" I was also a little confused with the sudden revelation that Alexis didn't love Augusta. It was pretty clear in the other volumes that he did, but suddenly, Yuki makes up something new - and inconsistent - as she goes along. Alexis is so obviously crazy and evil that it's hard to value him as a character - even a bad one!
Even then, Jizabel's back story was interesting, sad, and horrific. It was also fun seeing Mikaila and Cain interact again.
The first half of this volume was a lot of action; the second half was a lot of talking. For the most part, I actually prefer the second half. I miss Riff's personality (he's just less in the spotlight more now that he's evviiilllll) and I've never liked Mikaila or this subplot of Cain's father. I found Mikaila even more annoying in the second half, when she is competing with Mary and being totally horrible to her. But I REALLY liked hearing Jizabel's backstory, and as a vegetarian it really struck home for me. Overall, there were things I hated and things I loved in this one. It's definitely a penultimate volume, with some action and increased tension leading up to the final showdown . . .

I love this series so much! I cannot wait to see how it ends! Also, Yuki Kaori is possibly the only person ever who would try to make a villain sympathetic in the way she does. Wait, except YnM does it too. Only not quite so spectacularly insane!
This volume is shows the extent that Alexis, Cain, Jizabel and Mary's father, has messed with his sons' minds and emotions all through their lives. He is a truly sick and evil character that has no qualms or morals as far as I can make out. I am looking forward to seeing him get his comeuppance!
This did well to further develop Cain's father's plans for Cain and Mikaila and his siblings. I found how Mary Weather had greater agency in this volume satisfying along with Mikaila too. Yet finding out about Jizabel's backstory was utterly a gut punch and sickening, displaying just how evil their father truly is.
