Featuring 110 color photographs, North Carolina, Images of Wilderness is a testament to Humphries' talent and his artistry with a camera. Many well-known areas are pictured in these pages - Grandfather Mountain, Linville Gorge, and Cape Hatteras National Seashore, to name a few - as well as hidden coves and hollers and places off the beaten path.
If you enjoy nature and if you enjoy North Carolina I think you will enjoy this. The book divides North Carolina into four regions: mountains, piedmont, coastal plain, and outer banks; then proceeds from west to east through each. All are beautiful, but the author-photographer betrays his Asheville roots by putting half the volume’s content in the mountains. Although primarily a coffee table book, the text is still strong.
