You can read this review and more on my blog:
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This in no way effects my opinion of this book.

One of my favorite things about not only this book but the entire series so far is how fantastic and exciting the lives of Marina and her friends are. Marina is this talented artist whose paintings are already selling for a couple thousand dollars a pop, her cousin Cruz is on the verge of becoming the next big fashion designer, her best friend Megan's music is rocketing to the top of the charts, and her other best gal pal shayla has just become America's next top model without having to smize for anyone. To say that these kids lead a charmed life when it comes to success is an understatement, and it is a lot of fun to read.

They do the kind of things like travelling to Paris on a private jet and then ditching said Parisian adventure a few days early so they can go surfing in Hawaii. Not to mention they have a rich fairy godmother named Evie whose favorite hobby is buying them cute clothes to wear and lending them cars from her massive collection. Suffice it to say, these are some lucky kids!

Although, Marina and the gang have a bit of an advantage in the luck department. Not only is Marina a muse with the power to pretty much guarantee the success of anyone she cares about, her aunt Evie also has these same powers. So everyone in Marina's life with a little talent has received a double whammy of muse power.

As I mentioned in my review of the second book in the series, I really like Marina's muse powers so I was looking forward to learning more about them in this book. While I did learn more, I am still pretty confused about how they work. More than once, someone  says that a muse cannot be forced to make anyone succeed if she doesn't want to, but that kind of happens to Marina a lot. Plus it seems like Marina's powers are pretty all over the place as far as what they inspire people to do. Sometimes she just makes a dude fall in love with her and other times she makes him want to hurt her. However, it is the unpredictability of Marina's powers that keep me interested.

One thing I could have done without in this book was the constant fighting that went on with Marina and Ethan. Don't let my complaining scare you, they have plenty of cute scenes where they are lovey dovey, but they did fight an awful lot. At the end of the last book they got engaged, and I have to be honest, I don't know if getting married when you can't go a week without fighting is such a good idea. Even though they are very mature, they are just a couple of seventeen year old kids who have to deal with a lot of drama. I love that the author acknowledges this fact too. I don't think that Marina and Ethan are being presented as a perfect couple. They are being presented as a couple that could become great if they learn to be honest with each other and work through things together instead of apart. It is a refreshing take on the teen romance dynamic, but I can be a lazy romance reader sometimes so I hope they fight less and love more in the next book.

This is the second to last book in this four part series, and I am sad that I only have one more book left, but I am also excited to see where Marina and the gang end up. I am a huge fan of this author so I know she won't let me down!

And just in case you are lacking some Tyra Banks in your life and have no idea what a smize (Smile with your eyes) looks like:

the smize

Because of mild language and some violence, I would recommend this book for ages 13 and up.

“Ethan, I’m scared,” I whispered, right before drifting off myself.

Marina’s Tales is a series that just keeps getting better and better with each installment. I thought book 1 and 2 were great, book 3 completely took my breath away! The amount of suspense Derrolyn has been adding to the Marina’s Tales has been amazing! The Fate of the Muse kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end and left me dying to find out what’s in store for Marina next!

(goodreads blurb) Trouble is stalking Marina. She’s already escaped the clutches of her formidable foe once, but fate has even more trials in store for her. There are evil plans in the works– plans that threaten both her and her newly found family. As she struggles to come to grips with her unwanted powers, outside forces threaten to tear Marina and Ethan apart, making her doubt their vision of an idyllic future together. Can first love be true love?(end blurb)

Derrolyn is really writing an amazing series, a lot of series will have a book or two that are not as event-full or are well basically boring, but not the Marina’s Tales! Each book seems to get better and better, I thought The Fate of the Muse was going to be a calmer read since book one and two were so full of suspense and thrill, but no! Derrolyn made sure she kept her readers attention even MORE in book 3, it really makes me wonder what she is going to have happen in book 4?! Who knows! I can only imagine how awesome it will be!

When I try to pin point my favorite part of The Fate of the Muse…I can’t really pick one. I really loved all the suspense in this one, and meeting some new characters. I think when it comes down to it, my favorite part is the romance (I am such a sucker for romance!!). Marina and Ethan are a great match, I feel (even though Marina is a mermaid ha) that they seem normal…and not in a bad way! A lot of books try to make the romance as magical as possible, and sometimes when authors try too hard to make it magical it comes off cheesy and far too
unrealistic. Marina and Ethan’s romance is never like that, they are magical together, but it is always a believable magic..the kind that makes girls believe there is great guys out there (like Ethan) which there is! A lot of books make a ‘perfect’ guy, and honestly there is no such thing as someone that makes no mistakes or is completely flawless..I am just glad to have a series that has a normal guy, who is just genuinely a nice guy! Not some God, the girl worships! They have a great relationship, that I admire and love!

Marina’s Tales is still the only mermaid novels I have read, and it is seriously making me LOVE mermaids, any one that loves mermaids (or just a good book) I would recommend they pick up the Marina’s Tales! It has great friendship, great relationships, awesome suspense, and is just all together so far an amazing series.

I’ve completely fallen head over heels in love with the Marina’s Tales series by Derrolyn Anderson! After reading The Moon and the Tide, which is book 2 in May I knew I was hooked to Marina and all that was happening in her life!

Book three, The Fate of the Muse, continues the story of Marina and the mermaids!! After all the trauma that Marina went through with the kidnapping in the last book it seems the beginning of this book is mostly about her recovering from all the damages that caused to her mind. She is slowly recovering and finding strength again. Marina and Ethan continue to grow stronger together and life slowly becomes normal again. However, we know things don’t always seem to stay “normal” in Marina’s life!! She also has to face the fate of what the mermaid council will decide about the weird events she has caused.

The Fate of the Muse is great!! Like all the other books in this series it jammed packed with more unique twists and new characters, adventure, danger and of course ROMANCE!!

The best thing about this series, at least in my opinion, is the romance between Ethan and Marina!! Their relationship has become more intense and passionate yet they begin to struggle with what we all struggle with in relationships; doubt and worry about the future! I really enjoyed the fact that they are still together! I can’t stress enough that I am happy the author hasn’t created some ridiculous love triangle but has kept these two lovebirds together even amongst their struggles.

There wasn’t as much history on mermaids as in book two and I was hoping we would get a little more information about the new little mermaid that was added to the story. However, we did learn some new things about mermaids and possibly a reason behind why Marina can communicate with the mermaids and live on land. All interesting and unique perspectives added to the story! Again Derrolyn has an amazing way of describing the details that really makes story come alive!

I am really glad that I continued reading this series and I will be anxiously awaiting book four; which was a pleasant surprise to find out it wasn’t a trilogy. The Fate of the Muse ended a bit sad for me and I’m hoping that things all get figured out and that book four leaves a smile on my face!! If you’ve loved this series as much as I have, be sure to grab book four as soon as possible, you won’t be disappointed. If you haven’t read Marina’s Tales yet…what are you waiting for??

Content: A little more sexual than the other 2 books, there was some implied situations but no descriptions.

I received a copy of this book to read and review from the author. My review is not biased by the fact that I was given this book. I HONESTLY read and review any book whether bought or given to me. If I did not like the book I would definitely not give a rave review or recommend it.

I love, love, LOVE Marina's Tales! This is the third book in the series, and hopefully not the last. The first one, Marina has moved to live with her aunt and cousin after her Dad is going to Afghanistan. She does not expect to fall in love, find out she is a mermaid and have a life-changing decision to make - well, who does?

In the second book, Marina's boyfriend's ex has turns up, and of what she thought had been the end of her mermaid-life is gradually coming back to her. In this book, Marina and Ethan are so cute together! At the beginning, they are planning their future and everything. SQUEEE their romance is so cute to read!!!

I really enjoy read these books, I was hooked! I am sure I will return and re-read this series again and again.

All the characters are brilliant too - typical American boy Ethan, persistent and passionate Marina, lovable Cruz, cool Megan, caring Abby and stylish Evie. I can imagine them as my friends, the characters come to life.

The author describes the scene really well, and I love the different ideas. In most series, some ideas are mostly repeated and they get a bit boring after a while; but in The Fate Of The Muse it is just as gripping and as unique as the first two.

I definitely recommend these to any teenage girl, 11+. I had never really read a 'mermaid' book before this one and I am now definitely interested in more of this genre. I hear that Derrolyn Anderson is currently working on book four, 'Turning Tides', but I may explode of excitement before I get chance to read it! :)

Wow! just Wow!!! You know that feeling when you're reading a good book and its getting better and better and then you have to stop and you look up and like 3 hours has passed, and all your limbs feel all jittery and anxious and excited? That's how I felt while reading the Fate of The Muse. To say this was a good book would be a COMPLETE UNDERSTATEMENT!!! I was scared and nervous and happy and giddy and angry and annoyed all at the same time. The wave of emotions tumbling around me felt just like the waves Marina surfs on a daily basis - Dangerous and Exciting!

So I have no idea how to do this book any kind of justice. It was great. It was funny because at times I was like, oh something bad is going to happen right now. Then it didn't, only to happen when I least expected it. It made me on edge and nervous when I needed to be. The effect this book had on me was visible! I loved It. Ethan (the boyfriend/fiance) was just as wonderful and real as ever, and as usual, the surf's amazing. I legitimately wanted to learn to surf after I read this book. Marina is...Marina, and although I don't always like her decisions, I must admit that that's why I love the books so much! I don't even know what to say about this book...

I never wanted to stop reading this book (and never did). Once I started, I turned page after page after page only to find that the book was over and I wanted more!!! This book gets 5 LARGE STARS!!

More of the review: http://lili-lost-in-a-book.blogspot.c...

Marina’s near exposure in Greece caught the attention of the Council of hybrid mermaids. Yes, half-human half-mermaid hybrids have councils too. But this is not necessarily a good thing for Marina. In fact, because of the accident that led Marina to turning into a mermaid in order to save the people from the accident (her father included), she accidentally exposed herself as a mermaid. This, of course, got the attention of the media, and also the Council.

Oh Marina, you are in soooo much trouble!

Marina now has to present herself to the Council and explain why the heck she would transform in public. But what they’re more interested in is how Marina was able to transform. You see, Marina is a hybrid of many talents, talents which even some other hybrids don't even possess! Marina’s plan: lie her butt off!

But if only the problems would stop there...

Because of these many talents that Marina possess she was kidnapped in the last book. Remember that? She and Lorelei being trapped then put into a big mansion? Some guy wanting to use their muse powers for evil? Another mermaid being pregnant?? I’m sure this all rings a bell. Well guess what...they’re back for more! That’s right, Marina is still in danger and someone really wants her...desperately. The problem is, the people after her will be the least ones she expects.

On top of all that, Ethan and Marina are being driven apart. *sigh* All this mermaid stuff, Marina’s powers, the kidnappers, the ex-girlfriend, the jealousy...it’s like all this stuff doesn't want Marina and Ethan to be together.

Marina’s fate seems to be a dark one. But the question is, will Marina be strong enough to overcome these obstacles?

I’ve got one word for you my readers: Uh-MAZE-ing! Marina’s Tales just keep getting better and better! This book had endless amounts of surprises and suspense (you will never guess what happened to Nerissa and the baby she was carrying!) There was so much action throughout the whole book that I found it hard to put down the book! The plot was crazy (in a good way) and there has been noticeable character development for most of the characters across the three books. And as I said in previous reviews, Marina is a very likable character. I especially like that she is very modest.

Ooh! Mythology! I absolutely LOVED that little touch of mythology when they were in the museum! That painting with the nine Greek (or Roman, I guess) Muses, the mermaid in the near-by body of water, and and and....my favorite Greek god, Apollo (although that is also his Roman name)! :D Just when I thought the book couldn't get better the author goes and puts this in...Awesome :)

And guess what...I totally get the "That's what she said" joke now! I thought it was some inside joke between the characters, but it turns out a lot of people know about this. Sadly enough, my 13 year cousin had to explain it to me! 13 years old! Man, what are they teaching kids nowadays *shakes head* Anyway, since I found out what the joke meant I went back through all the books to find those jokes...it’s so much more funny now that I get it! :D I could tell you what it means, but I try to keep my reviews to a PG-13 rating ;)

I could go on and on and on talking about this totally awesome book, but how about you just go and read this series yourself ;) Recommended to those who love a good mermaid story!

When I read the first book in Derrolyn Anderson's "Marina's Tales" series, "Between the Land and the Sea", I was completely blown away- the book was everything that I had hoped for. While the next book, "The Moon and the Tide", did have everything that I had liked from the original book, a captivating and fast-paced storyline, likeable characters, and whatnot, I did find myself growing frustrated at the turn Marina and Ethan's relationship took.

In "Between the Land and the Sea" Marina and Ethan's relationship was simply "SQUEE"-worthy (they were just so cute together, her the little willowy artisty girl, him the popular All-American boy), I found that in "The Moon and the Tide" their relationship started to change, becoming not so cute (with Ethan becoming quite possessive and demanding), and in the large majority of this book, (it pains me to admit this) I found myself actually hoping that they would break up just so I wouldn't have to read of their constant bickering back and forth.

The main reason why I wanted them to break up was because of lack of trust- on both their parts. Marina didn't trust Ethan to not fall in love with his ex all over again, Ethan didn't trust Marina to not go running off into the sea, deciding to become a mermaid rather than stay human, with him. Also, I found it quite frustrating whenever they would bicker about something one of them (typically Ethan) would say something along the lines of, "Well, it will get better when we are married." In constantly saying to one another, "Things will get better in marriage", they really showed their age (17 years old) and their immaturity- in no way are they prepared to take that HUGE leap (I can't help but think to myself, "You don't trust one another when you are just dating, what will it be like when you are MARRIED? No better, I am sure."). Furthermore, I feel that Marina and Ethan are just holding one another back- that they cannot reach their full potential when together.

*NOTE: I didn't dislike Marina and Ethan being together in the ENTIRE novel, there were a few times in the book where something cute would happen between Ethan and Marina (ie. a look exchanged between them and whatnot) that would make me root for them to be together, but these moments were few and far between, in my opinion.

That being said, I did enjoy the other aspects of this book. I loved when Marina was globetrotting with Shayla (specifically when they were at the photo shoot in Hawaii), I loved when Marina was spending her nights surfing (I have never had any inclination to go surfing before, mainly because I can barely swim, but I really want to give it a go after reading Derrolyn's beautiful descriptions of it), and I loved seeing Cruz come into his own!

All in all, while this was not my most favourite book in the series, I still enjoyed it and I would highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a light-hearted and fun read! I cannot wait to see where Derrolyn takes the next book in the series!

First off, if you haven't read any of the Marina's Tales series, make sure you check them out. I have reviews of Between the Land and the Sea (book one) and The Moon and the Tide (book two). I've said before, and I'll say it again. I want to be a mermaid.

What I Liked: 1) The plotline. We got back to the plot pacing that I had enjoyed in the first book, but missed in the second. It was very smooth flowing, and didn't jump around at all. 2) Ah, Cruz. I heart you and want to be best friends. Please design amazing clothes for me to wear! I've mentioned in my other reviews that Cruz is one of my favorite characters in this series. And he still is. He's so creative and funny....I sort of think of him like Kurt from Glee! (only, slightly more awesome.) 3) I love the continuity of the story. Yes, you have to have read the previous book to really feel connected to these characters, but throughout the story, we get little reminders of what Marina and her friends have been through in the first two books. 4) The unapologetic outrageousness of the story. Did anyone ever watch One Tree Hill? I used to, but gave up on it when suddenly, they were all famous, doing these awesome things four years after high school. Seriously, one was a best selling author, one had a multi-million dollar clothes line, one was starting her own record label....how realistic is that? Okay, and there is some of this happening in The Fate of the Muse. But in this case....it's UNDERSTANDABLE. You know why it's happening, so you just get to sit back and enjoy it. 5) The creative descriptions. I love it when stories come to life. And Miz Anderson's stories always do for me. It's because of her creative way of describing things. Ever wanted to be a fashion designer? How about a runway model? You have a chance to step into these roles in The Fate of the Muse.

What I Didn't Like: Married? MARRIED? Dude. Whoa.

Overall thoughts: The Fate of the Muse was a great addition to a fun series. The characters are lovable and interesting, and there is never a dull moment in the plot. There's some great action scenes, and some incredible sweet moments between Ethan and Marina. Not to mention a setting that lets us globetrot. Finally, the ending just left me wanting more. If you haven't read Marina's Tales, make sure you add this series to your list!

This series is like crack. I don't particularly like Marina, I find her more and more annoying as the series progresses, yet I keep wanting to read. The mermaids are such a draw: carefree and wild, without a thought of anything but the present moment.

This book was less about the mermaids than the others, and more about the consequences of Marina's action from book #2. It still manages to be a complete story that was easy to pick up and catch up to, even though I read the second one a few months and several books ago.

Marina herself is annoying. She's selfish and insecure. She rarely seems to consider the consequences of her actions, and seems to have no idea hwo other people think and react. Her constant doubts about Ethan's feelings and motives are ridiculous. I want to shake her so bad when she gets going on her pity-party tirades.

And yet I can't stop myself from reading the series. When's the next one out? Some time this year? Can't wait to see what the next adventure holds.

This next chapter of Marina's Tales is just as exciting and enthralling as the first two. The author sucks you back into the world of mermaids, young love and evil plots. Marina is still the same bouncy teenager who is faced with fantastical forces pulling on her with only Ethan as a rock to ground her. Ethan is a strong character, though a bit silent. I was happy to see him get a stronger voice in this book. Their love is sweet, but still rocked with the natural problems on young love. The side characters continue to fill in the story well. I will note that there is a male side character with a boyfriend - nothing is detailed at all, but it's there. Altogether I got completely re-absorbed into this book and would definitely recommend this whole series.

I really enjoyed this book of the series. The first two were just a bit better for me (not sure why) but this one kept the pace going and has me very interested in reading the ending of the entire story. The reader learns more about Marina and her place in the world, and a little more about mermaids (though we don't see her visit the council again). I enjoyed the relationship development between Marina and Ethan. I LOVE that this book series has avoided inserting a love triangle. I really don't like those, and it seems like they are considered necessary for any YA books. I'm looking forward to reading the last book. I'm very glad I was able to buy this on Smashwords for such a good price.

I don’t think it’s possible for me to NOT enjoy this series. Like I’ve mentioned in my previous reviews, this series is highly addictive. However, the third installment wasn’t as great as the first two. There’s A LOT of things that happen in this one; and things change, for better or worse.

First, Marina and her group of friends graduate high-school. Cruz moves out to SF for design school, Megan is busy with her newfound fame (#1 hit single), and Shayla’s career as a model takes off. Therefore, the dynamic bonding that was so eminent, and heartwarming in the first two books, isn’t as apparent in this one. Of course, this kind of thing always happens in real life – people drift apart, things happen, people grow up, leave for college, get jobs, find their significant others, and so forth. So it was bittersweet and understandable, but I still missed everyone’s togetherness, and presence as a tight-knit group.

However, that gap left more room for Marina to further develop her relationship with her mermaid sisters, and Ethan. But, their relationship is far from perfect. Some of their issues (insecurities, jealousy, overprotectiveness, etc.), seemed a bit repetitive. And when they decided to seriously discuss and think about the “next step” in their relationship, I couldn’t help roll my eyes. But then again, Ethan & Marina aren’t your typical, in-lust, 18 year olds. They’ve been through some serious, life-altering stuff. My only fear is that I’m going to see their drama repeat in the next book, only to see their reconciliation in the end. I’m not necessarily complaining, because that formula works! I love it! But, still, I wanted some more angst, I guess, from either Ethan or Marina. I’m excited to see what new obstacles college life brings them.

Additionally, I was hoping for some more back-story with the mermaids, i.e., how they came to be, their laws/traditions, how they procreate (if there are no mermen), why the council allowed Marina 50 moons, what the 50 moons symbolize, etc. But the mermaids only seem to make a few appearances, served as a plot device, rather than actual meaningful, deep characters.

Also, I think the hybrid council meeting was hugely underplayed. Although I was relieved with the outcome, I wish there would’ve been more danger. I did like the little twist though.

All in all, I’m just glad I don’t have to wait for the next book to be released. I’m just not ready for the series to end!!

– 4/5 stars.

4.5. I was so excited to get to this book and I'm even more excited This series continues to be oh so good! Anderson's writing is great and I love the way that she set up the book. There's a lot of action in the book but you feel like you are really getting a fuller story than just an arc surrounding one event. This is the kind of book that captivates you for hours. This is also the kind of book that makes me wish that my hour commute was just a little longer so I could read a little bit more. The detail is great. The characters continue to be great.

Anderson gives a nice recap of the previous book in the beginning of this book, which was a good reminder for me. Although you could probably still read this book and "get it" without reading the first two books, you really should read the first two books in the series because they are really, really good as well.

Marina is just recovering from her kidnapping ordeal that occurred in the second book of the series. She's also uncovering more about the plot she found out about in the second book. The stakes are even higher now. I don't want to give too much away. Just know that the secrets, twists, and turns make this book so much fun. There are new villains in the book

The characters continue to be really well written. One of the things that I love most about these books is that the characters feel really real. They all have different feelings and things going on. Anderson does a good job of creating a unique voice for each character, which could be very difficult in a story where there are a lot of different characters.

There was only one minor thing that sort of bothered me and that's Marina and Ethan's relationship. One minute, they're promising really big things to each other and the next second, they're fussing with each other. I think they're a serious couple but not serious enough to be making some of the choices that they're making, especially at such a young age. This is mature, motherly adult me speaking, young whippersnappers. On the other hand, teenage me remembers that sort of dumb decisions you make with your first love so I kind of understand it, I suppose. Eventually you wise up and I hope that happens to Marina and Ethan before they do something that they regret in the future. Entanglements make life really hard.

Bottom line: A great continuation of a good story!

I got really really frustrated, again, with Marina and Ethan in this book. They were idiotic more times than I'd like to count, and so stubborn about things that they really didn't need to be stubborn about. It was actually enough that I considered giving the whole book 3 stars.

But then the more I thought about it, the more I realized Derrolyn Anderson is pretty spot-on. At seventeen I thought I had it all figured out. The funny thing is, I was in very much the same situation as Marina (as far as the relationship goes--not the mermaid thing). My boyfriend and I were together for about four months when we decided we wanted to get married. But here's the difference: him and I are still just boyfriend/girlfriend. Wanna know why? Because we recognized that even if we were sure we were going to get married, we knew that 17 was too young to be making a decision like that. We didn't have to "prove" our love for each other by tying the knot. And as of this review, we've been together 4 years and still going strong.

So for me I got irritated with how obsessed Marina and Ethan both were with getting married. It's not the be-all-end-all solution. And I think Marina conceded that point, but then went right along with it anyway. But again, I realized how accurate this was to the age. Everyone's always got everything figured out at 17, don't they? And Marina and Ethan were behaving exactly as they should have. Their maturity is accurate, and I can really appreciate that.

I wish the mermaid aspect had played a bigger role. I wanted it to be the main plot more than it was; I wanted to see Nixie and Nerissa and Lorelei more often than they showed up. I love that Marina has found her calling though, as the liaison between the human world and the mermaid world. It's perfect for her, considering she can't deny her attraction to the sea.

I can't wait to see how this series will end. It's built up a steady pace of action and I can only assume that the final book in the series will deliver with finality.

In this third and thrilling installment of Marina's Tales, Marina has recuperated from her kidnapping and is enjoying her time with her boyfriend, Ethan. They and their friends are getting ready for prom and high school graduation. Things are going well, except for the confusing visions Marina is experiencing.

After graduation, Marina is to fly to Paris and meet with the council. Being a hybrid, half mermaid and half human, she has gifts that not many, if any, have. She's scared of the imminent trip, but her Aunt Evie assures her all will be well. Be that as it may, Marina doesn't want to leave Ethan. The two have plans to marry and be together forever, even if they have to wait until Marina is of age to do so.

But not all is at it seems. Someone wants Marina's help in acquiring a baby mermaid. They believe the baby's blood is the key to immortality. Marina's the only person they know who knows the whereabouts of the child. They will stop at nothing to acquire Marina's help, even taking the life of one of her loved ones.

Marina begins to question her choices. Ethan is working so hard she barely sees him. Also, his ex-girlfriend Amber has returned to town. Marina begins to believe that maybe Ethan is better off without her, even though she loves him with all of her heart. As her friends begin to realize their dreams, she struggles between two worlds, that of the sea and that of her heart. Will she realize where she belongs before it is too late?

Fate of the Muse is a thrilling addition to the series. As the group of friends' graduation and move onto their lives, Marina questions her choices. She loves Ethan but is she burdening him? She wants her mermaid sisters to be safe, but at what cost? Romance, intrigue, mermaids and high fashion shows highlight this page-turning young adult novel. I can't wait for the next installment! Derrolyn Anderson is a must read author!

I have really enjoyed the Marina's Tales series, loving its humor, sweet love story, light-heartedness, and plot twists. As far as main characters go, Marina is not one of my favorites. I like Marina for her loyalty to her friends and family, and to the mermaids. I don't like her stubbornness and tendency to make bad decisions. She keeps secrets from her boyfriend, Ethan, secrets which ultimately put her life in jeopardy. And she takes a long time to learn her lesson about that, but she finally does. That growth is what kept me from really disliking her as a character.

Marina is a mermaid-human hybrid who has muse powers: she enhances the talents and emotions of everyone around her. I think that is such an interesting power, and it is neat to read about her effects on those around her. For example, her cousin Cruz is a budding designer, and because Marina wants him to succeed, great things start happening for him and his career.

Marina's power as a muse is what eventually gets her in trouble, though. Other people know about this power, and are intent on capturing it for themselves. The other threat is to Marina's mermaid family. People want to capture the secret of immortality for themselves, and want to use the mermaids to experiment on. Marina and Ethan's relationship is also in peril. They are at odds for part of the book and I almost thought they were going to be done for good a couple of times.

Overall, I enjoyed The Fate of the Muse. The plot had more layers than the first two books, which I loved, and the ending sets things up perfectly for book four, the final book in the series.

If you like reading about mermaids, you'll love this series. If you like reading contemporary YA, you'll also like it. The Marina's Tales series has a little bit of everything, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all ends in The Turning Tides.

Marina's Tales series keeps getting better with each book I read. I was hooked from the first book and the author just continues to reel me in for more.

In this installment it's summer in Aptos. Marina and her friends have graduated from high school. Shayla is heading to Paris to start her modeling career, Meagan is doing really well with her singing and Cruz is living in San Francisco. After all that Marina has been through in the previous books I though ok things have finally calmed down for her. Well things have only seemed to have just begun. Marina travels to Paris with Evie to meet with the mermaid council. It's here that Marina meets a new character that tells her about someone that she needs to stay away from. Things go from bad to worse after this.

Marina and Ethan's relationship is tested once again, but this time it's Marina rethinking things. A new guy comes into Cruz's life. I personally thought it happened really fast but I like them together. I cannot leave out the mermaids. I love how wherever Marina is surfing she encounters new mermaids who are always there to help her out of something. I liked the new little mermaid Nixie, and how she fits into the story.

This book continues to add more romance, suspense, danger all with previous and new characters. I'm looking forward to reading book four in this series. If you have not started reading this series I recommend that you do. It's so good! This e-book was provided to me by the author for review. This did not affect my review in any way.

The Fate of the Muse
Marina’s Tales Book Three
By Derrolyn Anderson

Marina has begun to believe the people who were after her and kidnapped her have given up; all she has to worry about now is her visit with the Muse Council. Now that she knows what she truly is she must also come to terms with her new powers, since she is the only one of her kind that is not as easy as it may seem. It seems her influence on people is so strong that the people around her start to do and become incredible things, the love of her life Ethan is even working himself ragged and she starts to doubt his feelings for her and wonders if this is a side effect from her powers or if he truly loves her.

Once again Derrolyn Anderson has written a wonderful book, this one may not have been as good as the previous two but it was still an interesting read as more of the main plot thickens. I have always loved the way the author brings to life each of the side characters and with this book and the end of the previous book we realize they are essential to the main character in so many ways. This novel is fluid and well written with such descriptive and interesting scenes from fashion shows in Paris to Surfing in Hawaii Derrolyn Anderson did a wonderful job of bringing the places to life. I admire the way Derrolyn Anderson has written three books that flow seamlessly together and I can’t wait to read the fourth book.

The Fate of the Muse is the third book in the Marina's Tales series and sees all of the people around Marina becoming successful in fulfilling their hopes and dreams whilst she is still uncertain about herself and what she should do once she graduates high school. Marina is unsettled as she is nervous about attending the council meeting held by Muses who are intrigued by Marina's powers and are possibly going to decide her fate. Although Marina tries to focus on her relationship with Ethan, jealousy raises it's ugly head between the two of them causing friction and as the pull to the ocean increases, Marina succumbs to her addiction and goes surfing with her sister mermaid, Lorilei which unravels more truths about her kind, her mother and why she is the way she is.

When Marina finds herself in more trouble, further truths are revealed that not only put herself in danger but those close to her as well. She soon realises that the saying “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” is one lesson that she will never forget.

I am enjoying this series, Ms. Anderson writes with a fluidity that can capture the reader's interest from the outset. This book is a quick easy read and apart from the repetitive hot and cold relationship between Marina and Ethan, which at times I did find annoying, this is an endearing tale about teenager discovery and good verses evil.

This addition to Marina’s Tales, picks up right where book 2 finishes off. Again we find Marina understanding more and more about her special abilities, and how she helps her friends find their way and achieve their dreams. Marina travels to Paris in this book to meet the council of women who share her muse abilities, but they also have questions about how far her mermaid powers extend. All of my favorite characters have a part in this book, with Evie meddling and causing more complications for Marina’s relationship. I think that Marina and Ethan’s relationship is a bit adult for the series, and I wish that the books had transitioned with them out of high school. Marina’s painting and making a name for herself was fun, but it bothered me that it was the way the bad guys were introduced. Also her Aunt Abby stepping up in this book was interesting, since as a muse Marina can influence others to reach their potential; I just wish that she had had a bigger part of developing Marina as a person. When you figure out whom the villain is the book takes a predictable turn, but you will be surprised with who comes to Marina’s rescue. I was happy to have book 4 to read right away, since I wanted to find out how the story continues.

I loved the continuation of this tale. It picks right up where Book 2 left off without skipping a beat. The Prologue really intrigued me, and I found myself trying to piece together the tale as I kept turning the pages. Though it wasn't quite as action packed as the first two books in the series, I still get lost in the story. I find myself getting to know Marina better, seeing her develop as a young soul with abilities she doesn't quite understand. It reminds me of what we all go through as women developing through puberty and into our 20's. Easy to relate to the struggles that come with growing up and seeing your body and mind change and grow.

Though I already knew there was a 4th book to read, I get the sense that the story is beginning to wind down. It will be sad to finish this series, as I have enjoyed it so very much. If you haven't already, pick up the first book "Between the Land and the Sea". It's free on Amazon.com and Smashwords, so you have nothing to lose.

Just as the first two books, this one was amazing!

When we heard there was going to be a book number four we were ecstatic. The story line was exciting and you never knew what was going to happen. A real nail biter. Marinas "powers" evolve and it makes her very insecure. She constantly wonders weather she is good or bad and if she´s to blame for all the bad things happening around her. Because of these insecurities she keeps a lot of stuff bundled up inside her.

Ethan and Marinas relationship has both ups and downs throughout the book but in the end they decide to take things t0o a new level.

To summon things up this book was amazing, intriguing, funny and exciting and we can strongly recommend it!

The third book of the series just kept the pleasure of the read going. The plot thickens dramatically and you don't see the twists coming.

Marina and Ethan really go through the trials of young love and their experiences together and apart both break them apart and bring them together. Evie experiences an earth-shattering devastation that undermines her confidence. And Boris never disappoints! Now we have Yuri and Paul. Should be interesting to see how this pays out in the final book. I'm so looking forward to reading it!!

Can love for family and love for romance overcome the evils of the world? To what lengths would you go to ensure the safety and happiness of those you hold dearest?

This was another good installment of the Marina's Tales series. 3.5 stars. I think I'm ready for a good conclusion now though. This book wasn't my favorite of the three, but it was still good. This book felt like stretching things out- same kinds of events, different settings or people involved. I'm looking forward to a climactic conclusion and maybe a happily ever after?

I continue to appreciate the constant steadiness of Ethan. He is my favorite character. Hard working, loyal, thoughtful. And tortured. Poor guy. Hopefully Marina will get it all figured out soon.

Derrolyn has done herself proud with the Marina series.

Though it took me forever to finish thanks to my scatterbrained thought process, I found the time at last! Anderson once again takes us on a wild ride out to sea. Marina and Ethan work through and struggle with realistic issues in a surprisingly realistic mermaid tale. This one might be my favorite so far, with the promise of action and more romance and mermaids and muses than ever. As the world becomes larger for the cast of characters so too are the dangers. Prepare yourself to be swept along the waves of Marina's latest adventure and don't hesitate to read the next chapter of this fabulously crafted series.

Marina's story just keeps getting better. She still hasn't learned that secrets just keep getting her into trouble. She has no idea who she can or should trust. Ethan continues to be frustrated and concerned for Marina's safety because of her foolish and dangerous actions. Cruz has another reason to be happy and I'm so glad about that. There are some interesting new characters in this book. I loved this book, another winner that I could not put down!!
