Surprisingly cool read. Written in 1953, Mazur tries to walk this very fine line between championing the rising standards of living in the west & how important it is that they continue to improve, while also really laying into communism & the Soviets. Obviously the Soviet Union wasn’t super involved with raising everyone’s standard of living, but I think the tenets of communism would argue otherwise. Mazur really pushes consumption as an integral part of our economy (which it is - 70% yo!) but there are a lot of funny old economic theories in this. Also where does consumption & the expansion of our economy end? We can’t endlessly increase our consumption? Or maybe we can? I don’t know, but this was fun to read.
