This was a good read aloud with my four-year-old boy. It’s definitely written for older children, but my son enjoyed having me read it to him and I think he took a few things from it. We began reading on Ash Wednesday and finished two days after Resurrection Sunday. Overall, the book did a decent job of staying accurate to Scripture. There were some details added to the biblical narratives, but it seemed these elements were in general at least plausible. In 37 chapters, this book tells of events in Jesus’ life from Palm Sunday to Pentecost in Acts 2. Each chapter has three pages of text, a two page full-color spread, two pages of special topics, and 3 review/application questions.
This is a classic case of “don’t judge a book by its cover.” By the looks of it, this is a mediocre children’s storybook Bible. But we were blessed this Lenten season to spend time in its pages, reading familiar stories while gaining new insight into the culture and time period of Jesus’ years on earth.
