This is a very renowned novel in Marathi literature, one of its own type. It is illustrious as well as gloomy. This pictures almost all Yadav's skill as a writer. He possesses an immense quality to picture the events truly, making them very interesting, giving them a touch of psycho-scientific aspect. He has a perfect sense of humour and compassion, catches it without fail and makes the novel lively. 'Natrang' is a mournful novel of an Indian artist. It has many aspects of experience. It is a homogenous mixture of the intense poverty and artistic energy, an artist's family and the artist's personality. The author has portrayed the life-style of an artist from the 'matang' community. He wants to leave the safe boundaries, lead his life in a different manner, away from the traditions, wants to produce some fine arts, he is inspired by his soul. He has to fight with the artists who are ready to sell their art for the sake of money. The author portrays perfectly well the artist with his purest mind dedicated towards arts. About the author

Yadav was one of the early writers of Marathi Gramin Sahitya (literature pertaining to rural life in Maharashtra).
His novel "Zombi" (झोंबी) (meaning “fight against all odds”) won a Sahitya Akademi Award in 1990.The novel is an autobiographical story of a young boy, his loving mother,his life of utter poverty, and his eagerness to receive education.
Yadav wrote three sequels to autobiographical "Zombi" (झोंबी): "Nangarani" (नांगरणी) (meaning “cultivation of the soil”), "Gharabhinti" (घरभिंती ) (meaning “housewalls”), and "Kachawel" (काचवेल) (meaning “a vine of pieces of glass”)

३० नोव्हेंबर १९३५ रोजी त्यांचा कोल्हापूर जिल्ह्यातील कागल येथे जन्म झाला होता. आनंद यादव यांनी कोल्हापूर व पुणे येथून आपले शिक्षण पूर्ण केले‌. आकाशवाणीत त्यांनी काही काळ नोकरी केली. पुणे विद्यापीठात प्रपाठक म्हणून नियुक्ती झाल्यावर तेथेच मराठी विभाग प्रमुख म्हणून ते निवृत्त झाले.

मराठी साहित्यातील ग्रामीण संबंध अधिक ठळक करण्यासाठी ज्या साहित्यिकांची नावे आवर्जून घ्यायला हवीत, अशांच्या यादीत यादव आपोआप जाऊन बसले. स्वातंत्र्यपूर्व काळातील ग्रामीण साहित्यापेक्षा यादवांच्या पिढीतील लेखन वेगळे होते, कारण त्यात वास्तवतेचे भान होते. ग्रामीण निसर्गवर्णनापेक्षा, तेथील जगण्याला असलेली दु:खाची किनार आणि दाहकता आहे.

नटरंग या कादंबरीवर त्याच नावाचा मराठी चित्रपट निघाला होता.

‘ग्रामीण साहित्य : स्वरूप व समस्या’ आणि ‘मराठी साहित्य : समाज आणि संस्कृती’ यांसारख्या पुस्तकांच्या रूपाने समीक्षालेखनही केले. चार कवितासंग्रह, दहा कथासंग्रह, पाच लेखसंग्रह, सात कादंबऱ्या, आत्मचरित्राचे चतुष्टक, आठ समीक्षात्मक पुस्तके असे लेखन त्यांच्या नावावर जमा झाले. विविध ठिकाणच्या पाच ग्रामीण साहित्य संमेलनांचे अध्यक्षपद यादव यांना मिळाले. मध्यमवर्गीय संवेदनांच्या बाहेर जाऊन साहित्यात नंतर येऊ घातलेल्या दलित साहित्याला यादव यांच्यासारख्या लेखकांनी मार्ग दाखवण्याचे काम केले. महाबळेश्वर येथील अ. भा. मराठी साहित्य संमेलनाचे अध्यक्षपद मिळाल्यानंतरही त्यांच्या ‘संतसूर्य तुकाराम’ या कादंबरीतील कल्पनाविलासाला जाहीरपणे विरोध झाला. तो एवढय़ा टोकाचा होता, की त्यामुळे यादव यांना 2009 संमेलनाचे अध्यक्षपदही भूषवता आले नाही.

This is the story of a poor artist. Similar to Zombi, Yadav highlights the hard (read impossible) sacrifices a poor person has to make in order to follow his passion. Written in a Kolhapuri rural style, Yadav turns the characters, their hardships, and their stories alive. It is a brilliant book, it's not as good as Zombi, but close enough. The ending, especially, is really really well written. 5 stars for writing and the characters. I will watch the movie next.

ही एका गरीब कलावंताची कहाणी आहे. झोंबीप्रमाणेच इथेही आनंद यादव यांनी गरीबांना आपली स्वप्ने पूर्ण करण्यासाठी करावा लागणारा कठीण (अशक्य) त्याग अधोरेखित केला आहे. अस्सल कोल्हापुरी गावरान मराठी भाषेत यादव यांनी व्यक्ती, त्यांचे खडतर आयुष्य, आणि त्यांची कथा जीवित केली आहे. ही कथा सुंदर आहे, जरी झोंबी जितकी अप्रतिम नसली तरी तिच्या जवळ नक्कीच आहे. कथेचा शेवट तर अगदीच उत्तम रित्या लिहिला आहे. ५ स्टार्स लेखन आणि पात्रांसाठी! ह्यानंतर मी नटरंग चित्रपट बघणार.

From all the authors have read till now Yadav' s books stand offbeat, since his books, subjects, language are altogether brings out country side living, people & their culture thoughts, traditions which a reader in city will definitely find something new & fascinating
