Harriet's doctor gave us a copy of Baby Angels to encourage me to read to her every day. From the looks of things, every parent with a toddler or infant was sent home home with a copy of Baby Angels. I agree that reading to one's children is very important (and fun) but I wish the pediatricians had chosen a different book.

From the blurb at Amazon, the book is meant as a "heartfelt, reassuring gift to every parent who loves a child more than arms can measure." While I certainly love my children more than my "arms can measure" I certainly not "reassured" by this book. The story follows an unsupervised toddler who gets out of his crib, out of the house and walks towards a river before his clueless parents finally notice and rescue him. All the time he's being "watched" by baby angels who seem to be goading him on. I can just hear their little voices: "Join us. Join us." Certainly if the tot falls into the river and drowns, he too can be a baby angel!

I know. I know. I'm reading too much into the story. I'm sure the guardian angels are there to help worried parents feel like their precious children are always being watched and always safe from harms way. I suppose also these guardian angels are also there to show young children that they will be safe even when adventuring but these "reassurances" are false hope. I would rather teach my children basic survival skills and common sense (like not leaving the house without permission).

You can tell so much care and attention went to the illustrations. It helps transmit the message of the book, which is that we are all cared for with attention to detail. Loved it.

This story is about baby angels that follow a young child around watching every move she makes in order to keep her safe. The angels go from one room to another until they are outside, where one of the baby angels tells the father that the baby has made it outside. The baby angels don't just watch over the young child, but join in on the play as if they are part of the family.
The illustrations in this book are spot on, as they show the progression of the child as she moves from one place to another. Every images includes the baby angels and shows that they are not make believe but they are really there. The illustrations not only have added detail to make the story come to life, but show specific moments that are being said in the text. The colors that are used also help the story come to life with calming colors that show the happy and simple life of what can possibly be seen as the country.
With the illustrations having so much detail and truly telling the story it feels as if the words are there to guide the reader a little rather than tell the story. The words are usually a sentence or a phrase, as they are not long. They do how ever rhyme and make the story a little more eventful. Throughout the story I get the feeling that there is someone to care for this child wether it is the paretns or the baby angels and that this is something we all have in our lives. The author and the illustrator did a magnificant job and showing how loved this child is and that the child is being protected and surrounded by good, With that I got the snese that the author and illustrator wanted everyone to know that we are always embraced by these things.

This is a sweet children's book that is about baby angels who watch over a baby. They guard the baby as she tumbles out of bed and tries to run outside. They watch over her and keep her safe,

Baby Angels is a cute story that can be utilized to help teach children about angels. This book really recognizes the cognitive abilities of children, by addressing such an significant and complex topic. The author approaches the topic of the afterlife and what happens to us after we die in a friendly and appropriate way. This critical issue connects to some religions, but is not exclusive to those who practice. With warm and happy images, Jane Cowen-Fletcher did an excellent job of creating an engaging book that teaches children about where their loved ones go after they pass. It depicts a different life experience than the typical one portrayed in children's books.

Beautiful little board book which teaches very young children that they are watched over. This was read to my grandaughter before bed for weeks and weeks. At age 3 she knows it by heart.

TEXT

Baby angels watch me wake, follow every move I make.
Baby angels see me climb, stop my tumbles every time.
Baby angels say, 'Uh oh!' when I decide it's time to go.
'Uh oh!'
'Uh oh!'
Outside where I want to be, baby angels follow me.
Angels guard me as I go, then tell the ones who need to know.
Baby angels join my play. But most of all throughout each day,
Baby angels keep me near those who love and hold me dear."

One of my favorite baby/toddler books. In fact, I still read it to my 8 year old on occasion. It's perfect for melodic voice which combined with seeing a little doing an "Uh-Oh" really captures kids fancies.

This is the book that I threaten them with if they don't behave. Can be read as a crypto-spiritual toddler will-to-power manifesto if you just change the emphasis to the first-person active voice.
