पुरुषोत्तम लक्ष्मण [पु. ल.] देशपांडे हे लोकप्रिय मराठी लेखक, नाटककार, नट, कथाकार व पटकथाकार, दिग्दर्शक आणि संगीत दिग्दर्शक होते. त्यांना महाराष्ट्राचे लाडके व्यक्तिमत्त्व असे म्हटले जायचे. त्यांच्या आद्याक्षरांवरून महाराष्ट्रात ते प्रेमाने पु. ल. म्हणून ओळखले जातात. लेखक आणि कवी वामन मंगेश दुभाषी ऊर्फ ऋग्वेदी हे पु.ल.देशपांड्यांचे आजोबा होते तर आणि सतीश दुभाषी हे मामेभाऊ आहेत.

Nobody will deny that this man has made some remarkable contribution not just as a writer but as an artist. His observation always makes me happy. This book is no different. All chapters are full with his sarcasm and humor. My favourite chapter is 'Maze Paustik Jivan'. a must read book from.my all time favourite writer.

The book became even better as the chapters progressed.
The different point of view of the author with regards to everything is what makes this book a must read.
All his books on goodreads are rated 4.0+/5, highlighting the greatness of the author and also how much he is loved by the people.
There's not a single home in Maharashtra wherein you won't find admiration for Pu La Deshpande.

सुंदर लेखसंग्रह. माझे पौष्टिक जीवन सुंदर जमून आला आहे. आज २०२५ मध्ये हे वाचताना अनेक पदार्थांची पुन्हा ओळख झाली. काही विस्मृतीत गेले होते. हे असे लेख त्या काळाचा आरसा असतात. काळाचे दस्तावेजीकरण करण्यात त्यांचा खूप मोठा हातभार असतो. संस्कृतीच्या बखरी म्हणले तरी वावगे ठरू नये.

सगळेच लेख काळानुरूप प्रभावी राहीले नाहीत. आणि एक दोन आज अगदीच तक्रारवजा वाटतात पण माझे वैयक्तिक मत झाले त्यामुळे लेखांची नावे घेत नाही.

व्यक्ती आणि वल्ली किंवा असामी इतकं प्रत्ययकारी नसले तरी संग्राह्य आहे.

A masterclass of writing humour. P. L. Deshpande's legacy is an essential part of growing up for many Maharashtrians, and especially so for me. Listening to his tellings of his stories was a pleasure unbounded. Highly recommend this to anyone seeking a comparison to P. G. Wodehouse, but in Marathi.

In this books Hasavnook , punning on the word and calling it phasavnook , he says,

पु.लं.नी मराठी साहित्यसृष्टीला केवळ एक लेखक म्हणून नव्हे तर एक कलाकार म्हणून खूप मोठं योगदान दिलं आहे. त्यांचं वैशिष्ट्यच हे, की त्यांच्या लिखाणातून सामान्य माणसाला स्पर्श करणारे जीवनातील विरोधाभास सहजतेने समोर येतात, कारण सामान्य माणूस हा विरोधाभास त्याच्या इतर समाजजीवनात जवळून पाहतो.

This book is hilarious. I have an entire new level of respect for P.L. Deshpande after reading this book and Batatyachi Chawl. I only started reading his books recently and my I honestly feel that I have missed out on this hilarious stuff all these years by not reading it. Its amazing how he is able to find humor in the day to day incidents which we all encounter. And because the incidents and other things on which he comments are so commonplace, I was able to connect with most of them. A must read!

This one makes you laugh. It is a collection of humorous Essays written between 1960 to 1966, but it still makes you laugh. Especially the Essays about Post Offices, Railways, Domesticated Animals. There is one poignant essay on reaching the age of 40. That one every reader approaching 40s or past it , must read. Very thought provoking and insightful.

Overall a great read.
