When Sophie shares her late mother's matzo ball soup recipe with the owner of the local diner, she realizes that she's made a slip. But she has no idea just how much trouble it will cause. After adding a few Midwestern touches to the soup, Wilda enters it in a cooking contest and wins first prize! She's going to be featured on a television cooking show and she wants Sophie to appear with her. Then, when the cast and crew of the show arrive in town, the chef disappears. Now Sophie and Sam have to find him, and find a way to prevent Sophie's face from being broadcast on national television.
Another delightful book and (unfortunately 😭) the final installment of a great series that brought me a lot of joy over the past 11 years. All of the Missing Persons books were quick, adorable, funny, and most of all - relatable. The Unsuspecting Gourmet starts off with Sophie telling Wilda about her mom's cooking. Without thinking, Sophie starts to mention her mother's matzo ball soup but quickly recovers and explains it away as something else. Wilda asks Sophie to help her recreate the recipe and they recreate a weird Ritz cracker sesame dumpling soup together. Later, Wilda submits the recipe to a tv cooking show contest and wins. The tv crew comes to Venice to film the show but then Wilda and the famous Chef go missing. Gus, Sam, and Sophie immediately launch into a search to try to find them and determine who in the film crew may have had something to do with their disappearance.
I'll really miss reading these books and wish there were more published because I feel like the Shattenberg sisters' story wasn't fully told yet. That being said, The Unsuspecting Gourmet was still a great book, even if I didn't completely love it as a conclusion to the series. I'm so happy with how all the relationships came together though <3
I had to skim through the previous book to see at which point I left out (it's been almost 10 years since I last picked up a book in this series. I had received the first and third book, as a gift from my headteacher of my primary school who was leaving (please don't ask why I only got the 1st and 3rd, I have no clue) I was feeling a bit nostalgic seeing as we are ending the decade soon, so thought why not.
It was nice to get back into Sam and Sophie's story. I love that their final mystery was just as good as the ones that came before. I love how they both come to a point by the end of the people which allows them to just be them and live a happy life with their new makeshift family.
I finished the Missing Persons series in 3 days. I ca’t believe this is the last one. I loved the series! but there’s something more missing...I wish the author would continue the series. I loved the characters and was eagerly anticipating more to Colin and Sophie’s relationship moments , they’re my favorite characters in the story. 😭😭 I’ll probably read these again, someday.

Another delightful if simple story. Read it in a day. I really like these characters and the town they inhabit. However, I would be surprised if there's #5--just seems like things have wrapped up.
A fun series about two Jewish sisters who run away from home and their greedy step-mum after their dad dies. Sisters Sam and Sophie decide to settle in a small town, try to blend in and make friends. Fake IDs, fake names, hair dye, money - it has it all!
AND!!
THERE'S A MYSTERY - in each book, I believe - which the sisters end up in the middle of. Of course.
i might have been the only person in my library who read this during the early days of ya (i'm dating myself, but when i was in middle school there weren't that many ya books published), and it's sad that it's hard to find a print version of this series. maybe it was because the sisters are from queens and seemed like people i would know, or the fact that there was mystery in a small-town kind of vibe, i really enjoyed this four-book series.
The book The Unsuspecting Gourmet by M.E Rabb, was a very exiting book to read, first off I love mysteries! And the idea of the mystery was very good it was like two story's in one! (You just have to read to find out)! A real page turner! My favorite part was when they solved the case, and parts in the book when there was suspension! It was a great follow up an ending to the rest of the series! I recommend it to anyone who loves a quick summer read!
Sadly, this is the last book in the series. Sophie and Sam must find out what happened to Wilda, the diner owner. At first it seems as though she went away on a whirlwind romantic weekend, but Sophie discovers clues that indicate otherwise.
I'm sad that this book has the least amount of information about it. It was my favourite of the group. I read this whole series over one sick day in high school. I've been trying to find copies ever since. They're delightfully simple and entertaining. Just cute.
Best and most thrilling of the series yet! The sisters are nearly caught as they solve two more mysteries and finally reveal themselves to the ones they love best.
