These days we hardly find a person who is so respectable that when it comes to him, you will automatically bow your head. Its very difficult to see such a dedication & love towards shivaji maharaj that he can talk about raje & his life very authoritatively. His words are not only an inspiration to us but will encourage all our next generations. I personally dont know if this novel has been criticized by great historians but i just dont care even if they had for what i can see in this book is a picturesque description of each & every moment of shivaji's life but also the emotional strong bonding between raje & purandare. Sometimes I feel like he has really lived that life with raje or shivaji maharaj himself narrated his story to him with such minute details. Its A must read for all.

This is a religious book for me. If someone wants pull swear on something trick on me, I will swear by this book. It starts with glorious history of Western Indian region, rich in culture- literature - material wealth. How the rulers were not vigilant enough to protect their kingdoms and fell to the hands of enemies.

Then it talks about how Shivaji Raje was born and changed the fortune. How his hard work and constant efforts freed the land. It is inspiring, it is a victory song for every patriot and a burning lightening flowing through every blood.

This book is a chrononicle of the life of the Great Indian King Shivaji Maharaj based on Historical evidence. Dr Babasaheb Purandare has dedicated his lifetime gathering historical evidence about the life of this great king . Shivaji Maharaj was a great warrior who fought against the mighty Moghuls ( Aurangzeb ) and carved an independent kingdom. He was a just administrator and established his reign on the principles of justice, communal harmony and welfare of the people. His gorilla war tactics have gone down in the annuls of world history. His escape from Agra fort where he was imprisoned by Aurangzeb is a classic example of his intelligence.

प्रस्तुत पुस्तक हे शिवचरित्रावर आधारीत आहे, हे आपल्या सगळ्यांना माहित आहे. हे पुस्तक २ भागात लिहिल्या गेले आहे, पूर्वार्ध आणि उत्तरार्ध.
त्यातील हा पुस्तकाचा पहिला भाग पूर्वार्ध.

ह्या भागात लेखकाने शिवजन्माच्या ३०० वर्षांपूर्वीच्या काळाचं थोडक्यात वर्णन केलं आहे. महाराष्ट्राची संत परंपरेच छान वर्णन ह्यात लेखकाने केलं आहे, जेव्हा महाराष्ट्र हे एक संपन्न आणि प्रफुल्लित राज्य होतं.

पण त्यानंतर अब्दाली च्या स्वारीने महाराष्ट्राची फार बिकट स्थिती केली आणि ती येत्या काही काळात आणखी दयनीय होत राहिली.

नंतर लेखकाने, शहाजी भोसलें बाबत पण भरपूर माहिती पुस्तकात दिलेली आहे. प्रथमतः त्यांनीच स्वराज्य निर्माण करण्याचा प्रयत्न केला होता. पण ते त्यात अपुर्‍या सैन्यामुळे अपयशी झालेत. तरीही त्यांच्यात युद्धकौशल्य, जिद्द आदी गुण होते, तेच पुढे जाऊन शिवाजीराजांत आलेत.

तसेच जिजाबाईंची आपल्या लोकांसाठी काहितरी करण्याची जिद्द, लोकांना स्वातंत्र्य बहाल करण्याची ओढ, महाराजांत आली.

त्यानंतर, संपूर्ण काळोखात एक सूर्य किरण उगवतं आणि ते दिवसा दिवसाने वाढत जाऊन, महाराष्ट्राला लख्ख प्रकाशित करून जातं.

लेखकाने संपूर्ण पूर्वार्ध भागात, शिवपूर्वकाळ ते शाहिस्तेखानाला दिल्लीतुन पळवुन लावण्यापर्यंतचा काळ नमुद केला आहे. ज्यात अफजलखान वध, सिद्धी जोहर चा पराभव, सुरत शहराची लुट हे प्रकरण पण आहेत.

बाबासाहेबांचे लिखान मनास लगेच जुळतं, काही गोष्टी त्यांनी मिश्किल रित्या लिहिल्या आहेत. एकदम सोपं लिखान. अक्षरांचा Font पण मोठा आहे. वाचण्यास एकदम उपयुक्त पुस्तक.

लिखानशैली निव्वळ अप्रतिम! साक्षात डोळ्यांसमोर इतिहास जिवंत होतो. खरं तर ५ स्टार्सच देणार. परंतु पुनर्वलोकन करता काही गोष्टी खटकल्या.. ब्राम्हणांना जाणुनबुझुन उजवे माप देण्यात आलं आहे. अन् त्यासाठी काही ठिकाणी इतिहासाशी कानाडोळा करण्यात आला आहे तर काही ठिकाणी इतिहासाची प्रतारणा केली गेली आहे. त्यासाठी उणे २.... जे वाचक या पुस्तकाला ५ स्टार्स देऊ इच्छितात, त्यांन माझी नम्र विनंती आहे की त्यांनी क्रुपया एकदा, आ.ह. साळुंखे यांचे 'पुरंदरेंची इतिहासद्रोही बखर' हे १७६ पानी छोटेखानी पुस्तक वाचावं आणि त्यामधे उपस्थित केल्या गेलेल्या प्रश्न व शंकांचे निष्पक्ष उत्तर शोधण्याचा प्रामाणिक प्रयत्न करावा!

Great novel.....
Almost all main sentences in the book has references, it means the book does not contains imaginary sentences and information.
However the book is more informational one. It don't give that kind of feeling which exist between other books like mrutyunjay, yugandhar, chhava..etc.

I love this book from my childhood. I consider this one of the best book I read so far. It gives great pleasure, inspiration while reading and after reading this book. You do not feel you are reading the past but you live in that history of Shivaji Maharaj. Author of this book Shri Babasaheb Purndare has devoted his life for Raja Shivaji. I would suggest that readers should read the review of this book written by Mr P L Deshpande in his Gan-Got book and to understand the greatness of Babasaheb Purndare.

It is a masterpiece of historical literature. A very amazing combination of history and literature. Each and every fact is accompanied by the historical reference. The language used in the book is very appealing. The author of this book has been doing research since 50 years on Maratha History and specifically on Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. And it all is consisted in this masterpiece.

A story of a king who created whole new world from zero. Amazingly written. While reading it feels like reliving in that era when your everything was surrounded by enemies and then there is no ray of hope but suddenly a hero came and save your everything.
