I also own the pocketbook paperback edition of this prayerbook, "The Complete ArtScroll Machzor: Succos Ashkenaz". I bought the hardback version because it was more durable and had larger print for my failing eyes.
I was delighted that this Third Edition is enhanced. That is, as far as I can tell, the insertions in the prayers required for Shabbat are now highlighted in gray as well as bracketed. In the previous editions, these insertions were only contained within brackets. Thus, as I was reading aloud, I might start reading the words within the brackets before I realized they were not for Shabbat.
By convention the paragraphs that are used for Shabbat have always been highlighted in gray, but until now the smaller insertions required for Shabbat within the paragraphs were not. Now they are. This is very helpful. In other editions I had to search through the machzor prior to the holiday and highlight the bracketed phrases used for Shabbat with a colored pencil.
FYI, I had tried using a highlighter pen to do this, but it tended to bleed through to the other side of the page, so I switched to a colored pencil.
Any problems with the Third edition? Yes. There was a fumble in the English highlighting on pages 345 and 975 during the Musaf service for the First Two Days and for the Musaf Shemini Azteres service. The Hebrew on the facing page looked correct but without highlighting. Nevertheless, it was reasonably clear in Hebrew. But the English fumbled the highlighting. The start-bracket "[" began in the midst of a word, "additional-offering[s" and the end-bracket was on the next line. It was tough to spot that without highlighting.
The Musaf service for Shabbos Chol HaMoed, Weekday Chol HaMoed, Hoshana Rabbah and Simchas Torah were fine. I expected them to be fine, but I looked anyway to be sure. I am as sure as my limited abilities allow.
Now with the highlighting done, I will use this machzor each year.
