According to tradition, after his exile from Spain for his defense of Judaism, the great Ramban (Nachmanides) sent this letter to his son. The letter which many recite weekly gives a blueprint for an ethical life as timely today as it was then. This book presents it as the basis for a beautiful collection of insights, comments, and anecdotes. Includes Bircas HaMazon.
I LOVE this book. I own both the full-sized and pocket sized edition and think it would make a great gift for anyone who is growth-oriented and spiritually inclined.
I have experienced such blessing since picking up and reading/reviewing this text. YAY!
Oh, and the author gives a blessing that on every day that one reads the letter, G-d should answer his heart's desires. I think that's a pretty good bracha to hop on board with.
An amazing message about the merits of humility, forbearance, and the purpose of refining our personalities and character. Iggeres Haramban's letter to his son is broken into 31 tracts, so that each day one can be read.
I read this a long, long time ago, but I picked it up again and read it in two hours. Why? Because the day before, while away for Passover, I skipped going to morning prayers, coming up with all kinds of excuses. My righteous wife gave me a talking-to about that, so I went to synagogue the next day and sought out a mussar sefer that could teach me some humility and put my heart in the proper place. This excellent well-sourced book did exactly the trick. I'm a better person now, certainly more repentant, and slightly improved. I pray.
