Maharal's ideas are the basis for many major currents of mussar, chassidus, and Torah thought. Rabbi Tuvia Basser extracts and clarifies many of the complex ideas found in Derech Chaim, Maharal's commentary to Avos. This is an exceptional commentary to Avos, an introduction to Maharal, and an exploration of the Torah's ethical demands.
So much is in this volume that has lasted through the ages. "If I am not for myself, who will be for me?" is probably the most well-known quote from the over 2,000 year old Pirkei Avos, but there are many more, for instance, "Do not separate yourself from the community, do not believe in yourself until the day you die." The book contains commentary that explains the meaning and context of each of the quotes. It is an excellent book for a discussion group.
