I paired this book with The Super Sluggers: Wall Ball. The reason for this pairing is that both the books are about baseball. The non-fiction book is more technical and talks about famous baseball players while the fiction book is about a group of kids on a baseball team. The fiction book says: "We all hit the ball pretty well. It was good to see the winter layoff hadn't damaged our swings. Fielding was another story. All practice long we struggled to catch the ball. We tripped and slipped and stumbled." The non-fiction book has a tip on how to improve your catching skills: "Improving your infield defense often comes down to simple repetition. When he was growing up in southern California, Longoria had to be resourceful to get his fielding practice in. 'I had a brick wall in my backyard, so I would throw a baseball against it to get used to fielding grounders.'" The books are both books that children who enjoy baseball would enjoy reading in their spare time.

We are huge MLB fans at my home so when this book showed up in the mail it was an automatic hit! The large illustrations and glossy pages draw in children of all ages. Pro Files gives young players tips on how to be a better baseball player and stats on all of their favorite players. With background reports, inside information, quotes from big time pros and skill drills this book has it all. I think it is perfect for children grades 2-6 and I would recommend it to avid adult fans as well. This book hit shelves at a perfect time with Spring training is in full swing and the regular season about to get started. A great gift for your little leaguer!

The theme of this book is like the pros. One example of the theme is How to Throw Out a Runner Like Joe Mauer. Another example is How to Field Like Evan Longoria. Symbolism in this book is everyone can do it like the best. Youth baseball players should read this book to help reach their baseball dreams.
