Halloween - a holiday that evokes so much. Some say it’s a time when the space between worlds is too thin to bear the weight, and outer things spill over for a bit of Trick Or Treating. The stories found inside this e-anthology echo that idea, reporting back from a corner where the mirror has reflected a distorted image of this season.

Inside we’ll find a young man’s madness has driven him down a bloody path and the brutal folklore of the early 19th century clawed to life. We’ll see domestic bliss marred only by suburban lycanthropy and retail employees devoured by cosmic malevolence. Witches, monsters, and maniacs as written by authors of fantasy, adventure, mystery, poetry, romance and horror. We’ll dig deeper into a celebration now known for masks, candy and pumpkins while immersing ourselves in this anthology. Here, we’ll go past the patch and discover what tales lurk on the other side.

About the author

Brian Fatah Steele has been writing various types of dark fiction for over fifteen years, often describing it as “cosmic horror with elements of urban fantasy and sci-fi.” Steele originally went to school for fine arts but finds himself far more fulfilled now by storytelling. Halloween always brings out the horror stories but Past the Patch is something different. It is not necessarily a book of scary stories but a book of Halloween stories and it's amazing to me how many points of view that can encompass. These thirteen tales span more genres and concepts than one anthology should be allowed to cover. You of course have your scary stories, but they come at you though many different avenues of fear. Some are shocking, some are grotesque, some have that supernatural vibe, and some will make you tremble in their stark potential reality. Some of these stories you really will not expect. There is a great piece of historical fiction, one story that was really sweet, and one that will really make you think. And like any true Halloween anthology, there are some shockers delivered by some true masters of horror. Past the Patch is one of the best anthologies I have read in a while and one that you should definitely not pass up.

This free collection of Halloween-themed tales was a nice way to spend a dark late October night. With a few chills a couple of good scares and quite a bit of wonderfully dark imagery, its contents danced in my dreams (and nightmares) for many nights after. Great collection... and, you can't beat the price!

I finished this the day I downloaded it, despite every intention to parse it out over a week. Pfft. I failed. I loved this collection of Halloween goodies. There was, literally, something for everyone. I would have paid to read nearly every tale in the book. What a great collection from DRP!
