For every fork in the road of life, there is only one question: Witch Way?
Mayhem has been Roxy Devereaux's constant companion, but she never imagined gun-wielding mummies would invade a company Halloween party and send her running for her life. Adrift and afraid, the sleepy town of Mystic, Oregon calls to her. Yet, in this secluded coastal community, nothing is as it appears.
Somehow, the locals know her. They expected her arrival. They believe she has powers that are beyond belief. As her past is revealed, Roxy must make a decision - stay and accept her birthright, or leave the haven of Mystic behind.
*Witch Way is a novella (approximately 100 pages) and is perfect for when you're on the go, on a plane, need an escape, or are just in the mood for a little magic. Enjoy!
This was a short, kind of funny, mildly entertaining little story. Easily read to pass an afternoon or two, but really nothing to get excited about. So you know, it's fine.
This quick fun read was everything I expected it to be and maybe a little more. To be honest it read a bit like a cozy which I loved.
Roxy is quickly thrown into an unbelievable world of magical Mystic Oregon...where she comes to find out that she herself is the Magic and must find it in herself to keep the town going. The pace of this novella is perfect...it keeps flying along introducing characters and new plot points and all the right times. and who wouldn't love little Remy?
There are no amazing moments in this one...no incredible relationships...but it's a novella...and I think that on that premise it more than delivers. So much so that I'm contemplating picking up the sequel just because it was such a fun pleasant non taxing read! (I need books like this to balance out the tearjerkers!)
Oh my! Things are just not good for Rory Devereaux. (Devereaux...a perfect last name for someone with special...). Ooops! Sorry got lost there for just a second. Anyway, Rory is running again because more bad has found her. Running again, because "Uncle" Barry said she needed to leave so off she goes, with just the clothes on her back and her car, hightailing it out of town and as far away as she could get from all the nastiness that she just left behind.
Little did she know that she was about to find out who she really is...
Part mystery, part paranormal, and part romance, this is a short, entertaining read with a story that keeps you engaged until the end. As book one of a three part novella, Witch Way by Heidi Hall ends perfectly and picks up again in the next part. The author does a great job in making sure that you pick up the next book in order to find out what Rory needs to do.
But first she needs to figure out where she's going and why she's going there. Hang on tight, it's going to be an interesting ride.
Witch Way is about a troubled, young woman, Roxy, who is forced out of her quite comfortable life with Uncle Barry on a Halloween night and is driven by mystical forces to Mystic, Oregon, where all the inhabitants seem to be waiting for her, everyone seems to know her and ever so strangely she feels like home. What will happen when her true heritage comes to light? And what will she be willing to do for her future when her recent past comes to haunt and hunt her down?
This is no high art literature, nor an epic, and does never claim to be one. It is chick-lit. But it is chick-lit at its best. And to all of you snobs out there who think chick-lit does not really deserve its -lit part, then you are really missing the point of what reading is all about. Admittedly, I’m not a big fan of the genre, but only because it lacks the very element that isn’t from this book. Magic. I do have a soft-spot for witchy, romantic stories that seem to spring up everywhere in the e-book world. This one novella is fantastic one at that. It offers great amounts of laughter, tons of salivating swoon and the fun of spell-casting, in a fine, neat package. Having read books that are so pre-occupied with themselves that they lose the audience every few pages, it was infuriatingly stimulating to read something that had great economy and savored the story as a whole rather than giving in to the need to extend on every scene and moment of brilliance (which I might be guilty of in my own writing). The plot flows smoothly and the pace sticks true to the rest of the novella. Every moment is appreciated for what it is, but keeping faithful to the story.
Character wise, because of its length, one cannot go into big depths about development and I think it might be more worthwhile to look at character development throughout the three novellas in the series, rather than in one individually, but even in that short amount of time we do see Roxy transforming from a self-obssessed girl, to a full, grown woman who has accepted her past for what it is.
I was eagerly anticipating reading this novella every time I was on the go and craved for more every time, so in engaging the reader mark A+. What worked the trick for me in this novella was the use of Wicca tradition for the representation of magic. It was done with great amounts of research, but also with enough liberty to also serve the story right. All in all, a much worthy read!
I thought the premise for the story was great, and I liked all the characters, I just would have liked it to be a bit more indepth. It sort of skimmed the surface of the story. You had to use your imagination too a lot to conjure up images and if it had been more descriptive then it would have been longer, which would have worked better too because a lot happens.
Basically Roxy ends up going 'home'. And home is a town where magic reigns, especially from her family. Thats all I'm going to say because i hate spoilers, but I do like a boy with a cute bum and a cat who is so much more than a cat ;-)
Good short story and intro to a new series. It is fairly confusing throughout, but that is mainly because Roxy is as much in the dark as we are. The town of Mystic Harbor sounds pretty interesting and is probably worth picking up the next one to find out more.
This is one of those things that is the right amount of stupid. It sounds horrible but there is no other way to describe this enjoyable little novella. Roxy discovers that she is a member of a line of witches, and this book is little more than that discovery and the discovery of her powers. The book is rather predictable, but Roxy is a fun character to read about. It's an piece of enjoyable fluff.
This is a light and easy book to read. It's not fluffy though like most summer reading books. It has a great plot, loads of interesting characters, and plenty of twists and turns that make you want to keep reading the series. I know I'm hooked!
i liked the idea of this, but it felt too light, like a novella. i also didn't find any of the characters that appealing, probably because you learn next to nothing about all of them except for the lead.
I love the funny parts in the story- even the references to pop culture were very amusing. A great first part of the story. I assume there is more from the "to be continued.." part at the end. I enjoy the story so far and look forward to whats next for this special town and its people.
I loved this book. This was different from what I've read and such a fun read. Can't wait to find out what happens with Roxy!! Will be adding this to my must read list.
