About the author

Simon Brett is a prolific British writer of whodunnits.

He is the son of a Chartered Surveyor and was educated at Dulwich College and Wadham College, Oxford, where he got a first class honours degree in English.

He then joined the BBC as a trainee and worked for BBC Radio and London Weekend Television, where his work included 'Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and 'Frank Muir Goes Into ...'.

After his spells with the media he began devoting most of his time to writing from the late 1970s and is well known for his various series of crime novels.

He is married with three children and lives in Burpham, near Arundel, West Sussex, England. He is the current president of the Detection Club.

K popukání to úplně není, ale sem tam se člověk pousměje. Textu málo, je proložený spoustou obrázků, a říkám si, že unaveným novopečeným rodičům by to mohlo bodnout stejně jako unavené studentce ve zkouškovém.

Whimsical tale of baby's first year, as told by baby. This one is deliberatly trying to be a little sod as he lets us into all his cunning secrets. Reasonably innocent though, and certainly not on the criminal mastermind level of Stewie out of Family Guy. Not especially long, so a quick easy read, which can be a handy thing when you have your own little sod (only joking darling) on the go. And there's a few things I'm sure all parents can relate to. What I did find funny is how it shows the trends and thinking of what you should do with a baby at that time. This was first published in 1992, and she is feeding the baby mush at 4 months. The almost cultish NHS guidelines of today is that you MUST NOT feed them any solids until 6 months, in their one-size-fits-all rules of what to do with your baby. Anyway, the book is a light distraction, with plenty of silly illustrations.

I must admit, I only really soldiered on through this because of the linguistically interesting Czech/English bilingual edition. I just didn't find the joke funny enough to last for a whole book. But as it turns out, this thing spawned sequels and even a TV series. So I guess that shows how much I know!

This book is an amazing combination of both, being funn and extremly annoying at the same time. You'll hate the baby, but you'll be laughing at his pranks and comments.

Die beiden Autoren beschreiben das erste Jahr aus der Sicht eines Neugeborenen. Dabei unterstellen sie dem Baby, dass es das Ziel hat, den Eltern seinen Willen aufzuzwingen und sie an den Rand eines Nervenzusammenbruchs zu bringen. Diese Unterstellung ist es auch, die manchmal das Buch etwas eigenartig wirken lässt. Findet man sich allerdings damit ab und lässt sich auf dieses Konzept ein, dann ist das Buch wirklich enorm witzig zu lesen. Vor allem deshalb, weil viele Situationen wirklich so sein könnten, wenn denn Babys bösartig wären.

Sprachlich ist das Buch nicht unbedingt mitreißend, eher relativ schwach geschrieben, dafür ist es mit vielen netten Bildchen gespickt, die das Kind bei seinen Aktionen zeigen. Insgesamt ist es also ein nettes, lustiges Buch das nicht allzu anspruchsvoll ist und so für einen unterhaltsamen Abend sorgen kann. Jemand der tatsächlich glaubt, dass Babys eine schwarze Seele haben, sollte das Buch vielleicht nicht lesen, seine Überzeugung würde sich vertiefen.

Kniha pro rodiče malých dětí (což je právě můj případ) - místy jsem se smála jako už dlouho ne. Scéna s vázou a kočkou prostě nemá chybu. Ke konci už mi to přišlo malinko monotónní, ale takový je i život s prckem a ne všechno se dá převést na srandu. Smála jsem se ale tak, že se to nakonec odhodlal přečíst i manžel a určitě se pustím i do dalších dílů.

Kontext: větší část jsem přečetla na Kindlu při volbách do EU parlamentu - volební účast pod 20%, takže bylo dost času se věnovat i četbě

První věta: "No, tak jsem tady."

Poslední věta: "Ne, celkem vzato se moji rodičové nevyvíjejí zrovna nejhůř."

Musim se dilka zastat - nadherny a usmevny za vsech okolnosti. Zadny hluboky superdilo, ale dokaze vyvolat usmev. A to at deti mate a milujete (a neumite si predstavit, ze by ten neznouckej tvorecek mohl premyslet a uz vubec ne tak zakerne, jak si mysli autor), nebo je vubec nemusite. Pak pochopite, proc je nemusite. Zakernejsiho a sobectejsiho tvora nez maleho ditete neni!

A true to life look at the first years of a sprog, by the presenter of the radio show "Foul Play" as well as writer of murder mysteries. This is probably his funniest piece though.
