Joyce is a real poet. "A Dress for the Funeral" is astonishing. "The Willis" is gorgeous. "My Cult" is insightful. The body double story is hilarious and haunting. And "Statue 28" is worth the price alone (you can resell 5 copies for a profit).
Even the deliberately childish rhyme schemes come off as haunting, in the way that the best Dr. Seuss goes way beyond 'children's literature'.
I read this in one sitting and keep it by my desk as a reminder that writing is real.
This is a poetry collection that comes out of millennial culture with notes of gen-z conspiracycore. Some readers will take an extra interest in the author’s biographical details but the poems can also be enjoyed completely dissociated from their source. I suggest reading the book first before knowing anything about the author.
