I've read 3 of Erik Handy's books now, and I think he is going to be around for a long time. His writing is well done, and his subject matter is fresh. I feel safe in recommending any of his books, because I am confident they will all be quite good. The Malice Below is "different" on so many levels, that when you've finished reading this short story, you somehow feel as though you had read a full-blown novel.
