This book is an invaluable resource for finding and skiing the rowdiest lines at Squaw Valley. It's also a great read. Gaffney goes to extreme detail in describing line entrances, exits, and variations. He includes history on the progression of free skiing on some of the best terrain in the continental US. If you can find a copy of the book, buy it! Just don't be surprised when these lines scare the shit out of you in person.

Squallywood, by Rob Gaffney is not your normal book, this is
no narrative, it's simply a "guide to Squaw Valley's most exposed Lines." (a ski trail) This book is written to describe all the great ski runs in Squaw Valley. However, it's not a map, so if your a first comer to Squaw Valley, I don't recommend this book to be your guide. This Awesome book includes the difficulty, the fun factor, the hero factor, and what movies every single line is taken place in. The only
challenge, do you have the guts to run these lines!
My favorite aspect of the book is that it shows you not only how fun the line is, how you will be recognized from doing each line, or even how hard the line is, the part that sticks out to me most, is that Rob Gaffney tells you how to get to the line. Toward the end of the book, you will find some short-stories of people committing these crazy lines, my favorite story is of Mike and his treacherous journey, in the middle of a snow storm, tamahacking (tumbling) hundreds of yards on snow and ice, located in the middle of nowhere.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of skiing Squaw Valley. Any outsiders of Squaw Valley will find this book boring and hard to understand. If you are a Squaw Valley skier, this book is a must have! I don't recommend this book to anyone who does not Ski at Squaw Valley. Once again, this book is not a narrative, it's more of a coffee-table book.

Squallywood is the best book I have ever read. Squallywood is not a story its a guide to Squaw Valley ski area's most dangerous and fun ski lines. The Guide than makes a game out of skiing at Squaw. You, the skier, scores points by skiing the lines and by doing tasks or tricks. It is also probably one of the funniest book I have ever read. Whenever I pick this book up, even if I just read a chapter or two, it gets me exciting for ski season. If you are a skier and would like to learn a little of the local history about Squaw Valley you will really enjoy this book.
