So the beginning of the book started out awesome and then it went downhill from there. Instead of delving into the mechanics of the card system or getting stronger the MC and his gang go from one unreasonable fight to another.
The plot armor is horribly OP here. The logic and flow of the story make no sense whatsoever. Everything from Daine helping them, to the first attack on the Dragons den, to the fight at the theme park. Especially the theme park. The MC’s logic and strategy was just flat out dumb. But hey the author said it works so it must right? No.
Skip this. There are much better CardLit options out there. This was just an example of lazy writing.
At this point, I am not sure if this author is a bot or a couple of shadow writers or one guy who refuses to learn anything about his trade. It's as if the author deliberately uses words to bring readers out of the story to see how many suckers he can still get to give him high ratings.
A truck is not a car. A Charger is not a truck. A Ram Charger is a truck. Trucks do not have "trays", they have beds.
Really enjoyed this book a lot I can't say enough about it. It actually felt like a real novel and not something that gets passed off as one more Amazon book. I've read the author's past works and some were hit and misses but this was definitely a hit! Main character is split between three people however the focus of the book is the male lead. The females are well developed character-wise and don't make you feel like it's modern politics. The story and world building was pretty good and I really got involved quickly with the book. To be honest I haven't read one this good in quite some time. I look forward to the second book, I hope the author maintains the same quality and attention to detail as this first book it was really good.
The concept of the book initially intrigued me, promising a captivating journey. However, I was ultimately disappointed and couldn't finish it. The world building felt illogical and unbelievable, disrupting my suspension of reality in a fantasy setting. Additionally, the characters were lackluster, making the overall experience fall short of my expectations.
Probably the best series i've read from Dante King, but that's not saying much. It was still a pretty uninspired story. But at least all the harem cliches were present; the talk between first girl and MC where she tells him she's alright with sharing, and he's stunned by it, MC reflects on how 'he's the luckiest guy in the world' at some point because he has multiple hotties hot for him, and let's not forget how MC is instantly filled with burning rage and sees red anytime someone threatens or even bad mouths one of his girls. And all the rest.
I've seen that movie Speed several times in my life, so i'm well aware about how intense dangerous situations can bring two people together romantically (and how relationships based on that don't usually last), but is MC seriously calling Elsie his girlfriend after knowing her for like only 18 hours? Are you kidding me? Also, fucking the god daughter of that strongly Christian couple, under their roof, in sin out of wedlock after they were so nice as to put you up for the night seems like a dick move to me. You can't keep it in your pants for one night to respect the Christian home you're sleeping in? I'm not religious or anything, but that pissed me off. Especially after MC gave Mrs Hudson a nod, thereby reassuring her that he'd be keeping his hands to himself while sleeping in the same room as Elsie. smh.
For the last year I have been searching and listening to every deck building LitRPG I can find. I love the genre but this one reminds me that I still have standards. This is so far the worst I have found. The whole story a clear wish fulfillment fantasy. Starting with the MC who always gets what he wants, Everyone either thinks he's ballsy or doesn't matter. His side kick/chick is a bleach blonde Bimbo in the form of a Redhead Texan, who likes big things and Texas. They get their powers suddenly and beat someone who is basically a pro right away. Then find a small group of card holders who specialize in group tactics, while basically not knowing each other. Then they have sex in her god mother's apartment before going off and being bad asses. The second chick seems quite a bit smarter which is common in Harem lot but she is the mysterious goth girl that is either grumpy, moppy, or mysterious. Very little is explained about the card system and the MC never asks, checks, or verifies anything with anyone who knows things. He essentially always guesses right. Honestly from what I can piece together about the system it is pretty decent but weirdly everyone they gave is acting like a beginner. Few cards, no levels, and poor tactics.
MC in his truck has an accident with a magical beast and gets a magical card, runs into more people with cards and discovers a full secret society playing "the game" while finding female companions... Nice and entertaining read but it is all a bit too smooth for the mc and him and his sidekick Elsie are too welcoming such a big revelation to have magic and risking their lifes and so on. Nevertheless are the characters likeable and the story is nicely told.

Again another thoughtful angle to the everyday games people play. Showing the world can be as simple or complex in a moment. MC has the bewildered feel as would anyone else finding themselves in this sort of situation. Loving the storyline and wait with baited breath for the next one.
This is a very interesting world that's been set up. It's a little _too_ fish out of water for my preference, but the mmc and his two partners are good people that are fun to read about, and the action and magic system is interesting. It'd be nice to get some answers instead of just more questions, but otherwise it was a fun ride.
Right off the bat the author just showed the lack of any type of research. He talks about his Dodge truck and then refers to it as a Charger which is a 4 door car. I mean something so basic within 5% of the book just makes me not want to progress any further. If you are that clueless or that lackadaisical that you don’t even know a car from a truck, I’m just not going to suffer through
I didn't think I'd like the series. I gave it a try and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. There were a lot of threads that could have been worked on.
Unfortunately, by the second book, it felt like the author was having trouble keeping things square.
I thought the magic system was pretty cool. Can't wait to see what other abilities they get or upgrade later. The story was pretty good, liked the Mc and the female leads. Looking forward to the next book.
Fun new series, the first book was pretty solid, the gang warfare and seeing him play both sides was cool and the mention of a potential big bad has set this story for the long term giving it a direction
Good story. I liked the way the cards worked in the book. For the author’s information I noticed you called the ram truck a charger at the start of the book. It could be a hemi, but not a charger, lol otherwise a fun read
A very different style of fantasy/game lit story that I've ever read! Definitely makes for a fun octane induced ride!!! Some very interesting characters, A nonOP MC and some great world building make this a great beginning!!!!
All in all this was a fun book to read. I got caught up on the truck. Dodge makes a Ram Charger truck and a Charger car. When the Author started calling it just a Charger I was confused. Fortunately he later started calling it a Ram.
Dante has outdone himself on this one. Our hero Matt is not some OP hero.. he barely scrapes by, gets beaten like a drum, and still manages to stand up at the end of every fight. There are two lovely ladies attached and I hope it gets wilder in the next book!
I guess some people never learn to allow others to live their lives. Some people get involved with something quite unknowing and then can't get out. This book is full of both cases!
I enjoyed the story. The characters are all well written and developing through out the story. In looking forward to reading more from one of my favorite authors!
I'm a fan of Dante's books, and while this new series had a decent start, I'm not sure if I'll stick with it. The TCG aspect of the story was what put me off the most, I thought I would enjoy it a lot more than I actually did.
Loved the storyline, loved the character development, loved the writing. I was hooked from the start, so looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
This was fine. Improved as the book went fortunately but was a really rough start. Despite the fact it rebounded, I doubt I'll continue with this book, even if I like the deck building trope
