I am surprised to say, but this was my favorite book on road tripping in Northern Italy--it was a lot broader that what I was looking or at the time of my trip to Piedmonte, but it was full of ideas for exploring smaller regions of Italy beyond the large tourist towns.
I would get this out of the library every time that I plan a return trip to Italy.
