Mail-Order Millionaire

Rate this book
Miranda Morrison has handled her share of irate customers at the Vermont mail-order company, but Maxwell Randolph Carter with his southern accent and his tough-guy attitude topped them all. Was it her fault the wealthy weatherman was stuck at his remote mountain top station in three feet of snow without the boots he'd ordered? Still, the customer was always right...So off she went in the snow mobile to deliver those damned boots.Max was shocked to see the lovely but half-frozen Miranda arrive at his outpost with the merchandise. It wasn't every day that a beautiful delivery woman drops by the observatory. He predicted fog which meant she had to stay overnight, but he never predicted that lightning would strike him when he saw her. Now if only he could keep her there long enough to prove they were made-to-order...

Reviewing yet another freebie, I really think this is a sign that I need to start attending meetings. Is there an AA equivalent for freebie addicts?

In all fairness I admit to skimming the second half of this book. The writing is alright and the formatting was decent, but the love story was only so-so. This is a romance for crying out loud. Where was the chemistry? I felt absolutely nothing. Nada. Bupkis. Gah!

Obviously I was a little frustrated by the lead characters but I was also irritated by their actions. Max and Miranda meet, deny their interest in one another and go their separate ways. They do this over, and over, and over again. It was exasperating. Lather, rinse repeat may work in the shower but it certainly doesn't fly in literature.

My vexation doesn’t end there. Our ‘lovers’ spend little more than a handful of days together and don’t share more than couple chaste kisses before Max begs Miranda to be his wife. Weird but more disconcerting is the manner in which he asks. “Marry me, be the mother of my children, all twelve of them.” Huh? I can forgive a less than romantic proposition but come on. Just reading that proposal gives me the creeps.

Sweet and clean but slow and forgettable. Shelved with A Fair to Remember and Siren's Song as not for me.

Cute contemporary romance with a millionaire meteorologist stuck on the top of a mountain and a pretty mail order customer service representative with a family farm she can't afford. It all starts over a pair of snow boots that never got delivered, which in turn prompts a special delivery to assure that every customer is satisfied. Lots of laughter, syrup-making, an interfering sister, and a bundle of fun wrapped up in romance!

e depois no fim! happily ever after! (cara de "não acredito que perdi o meu tempo a ler esta m....")

I confess, I judged this book by the cover. I snagged it years ago as a freebie and while going through my Kindle figured I'd start reading the books that looked the worst.

And I was pleasantly surprised!

It's still a terrible cover that has nothing to do with the story, but I really enjoyed reading this one. Maybe it was a little contrived and everything worked out a little too easily at the end, but in the best possible way. A sweet romance novel (no sex, for those of you who that matters to) that leaves you with a smile on your face and a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Honestly, this book deserves a better cover. (And title, him being rich was barely touched on, so why the cheesy title?)

I didn't get as annoyed with it as with other romance novels, but the supporting cast and the main characters were pretty awful. I question the entire motive of the meeting - there was not a single reason for her to hand deliver the order and staying overnight is incredibly reckless. This is yet another book where they should have just talked to each other.

This is one for those who enjoy a warm and cosy romance. It's a relatively short read which can be completed in one or two sittings.

Certainly this book has some faults, one of them being that the characters give mixed signals to each other and the romance is very slow, but that is not always a bad thing.

However, there is charm in the story, where the imagery brings the reader into the daily lives of the main characters. Miranda, a 'refugee' from New York, returns home to the farm which her grandfather left her to try and make a go of the maple syrup business. She also has to work locally in order to make ends meet, which involes fielding complaints at a mail order business.

Max, hurting from a broken marriage, is currently the weatherman on a mountain in the next county and contacts the mail order business to complain that his boots have not arrived.

It all happens from there.

Grace's description of the farm, working the sap from the trees with the horses, the slush and the mountain weather station is the saving of the novel. If the reader is looking for red hot action, this is not the place to find it. I felt the characters could have been rounded out better in order for the reader could get to know them, but in spite of this, the novel as a whole has a certain charm.

As a final note, the title is misleading. This story is not your average millionaire meets girl story. For one thing, the millionaire matter is barely mentioned and in fact, is totally unnecessary to the plot.

I couldn't quite make my mind up about this but by about two thirds of the way through I'd stopped caring and it was just becoming a struggle to finish - not the mark of a great book. It starts with the heroine bring plied with sherry (surely only enjoyed by women of my mother's generation) when she gets snowed in with the hero - a man who is unable to make small talk and (by his own admission doesn't generally want the best for other people). It then meanders along, not really achieving very much. The plot is haphazard and a bit random, the characters are weak. If there is a strength in this book, it's the cultural strand to the story - I'd never heard of a "sugaring out" party and it was fascinating to learn about it. I'm not sure of the age of the author but I'm thinking "elderly" - not that it should matter, but the narrative voice of the heroine is so clearly a mature one, that it leads the reader to naturally question it - and combined with the lack of passion and chemistry between the two main characters, I'm thinking that what Miranda needs is not a man who wants 12 kids, but a home help.

This was a cute concept for a romance plot. Max has been waiting for his special hiking boots to be delivered for far too long so he calls the complaints phone line of the mail-order company in Vermont. Serendipity happens and he gets a lovely single lady on the line to fix his problem with the boots and fill his life after a terribly disappointing divorce. There is a cast of three-dimensional character, I particularly loved her sister Ariel with her devious matchmaking ways. This story weighs heavily on kismet and timing, but it worked for me. I wanted to become buddies with this cast and crew (except the nasty owner of the mail-order company, yuck! What a a-hole!).
This was a YA romance so nothing more then a couple of kisses, but damn, there was real chemistry between the H/h couple in this story. Well written and free from kindle.

A cute and very old-school (ie. understand chaste and sexless) romance
I liked Max and understood his difficulty to enter a new relationship post divorce, as well as his enthusiasm for his job. Miranda's very independent approach to life spoke to me, even though it really seemed she was always and only seeing one day at a time, without any real long-term plan – surprising though not completely impossible in her situation. However nothing in her "big-city" experience justified IMO her decision not to get involved with anybody; call me stupid but why being mugged and propositioned by her former boss should make her totally averse to being with someone, I cannot fathom.
The rhythm is very slow, the heroes hesitate a lot, but the overall story is very nice to read through.

To wanna be independent and be a definition of self- efficiency by profiting from her childhood farm. Although, due to the mistake, the farm is sold and Miranda wonders how life would be if she didn't have huge worries. Until Max, millionaire who monitors weather on paradise views. Meeting Max, Miranda decides she should ask if Max cares more for his occupation or a possible companion. Finally, Max chooses the woman of his dreams and accepts a new job position that gives advantage to live in whatever location and still monitor the weather. Will there be any rain soon? No, not if not for only joy.

First off I love a good romance and I love Amazon Freebies. (I am trying to clear my Kindle of them now because I have way too many) Some I begin and close just moments after reading the page but, most like this one I find myself captivated and wanting to be in the story. Miranda was a scared tired farmer who worked for a mail order company and meets a disgruntled customer Max when he doesn't receive his boots. (I love where they really are total LOL moment of the whole entire book) I also love Ariel and can see the love and bond between the two sisters. I like this quirky read it was quick and fun!

This book is really a 3.5/5. I just wish Ms.Grace hadn't made them try to avoid their feelings for so long. It got to be a little tedious when Miranda and Max kept saying the same thing over and over about not wanting/needing anyone else, their lives were perfect, etc. But the rest of the story was written really well and very enjoyable. Of course, that's what's expected when Carol Grace has written a book!

Pretty good. The characters in this book were nice to get to know and I enjoyed the slow build up to a relationship instead of the "we're attracted to each other now let's jump in bed even though we just met" type books.

Interesting characters, inner conflict plus outside factors keeping the couple apart, etc.

Not my favorite book ever, but not bad.

This was more of a "sweet romance". No smut in it whatsoever! (EGADS!) But I thought the story line was cute and I liked the hero although the heroine did get on my nerves a bit. I thought she shot herself in the foot too often with trying to end things with the hero. I loved the heroine's sister. She was my favorite character in the whole book. LOL

I really enjoyed this clean, contemporary romance. I love that characters didn't jump into bed but instead got to know each other. An interesting setting and well developed characters added to my enjoyment. In spite of its solid pg rating the author made me feel their attraction for one another. An excellent read.

This was the cutest idea for a book but I just found myself saying Uggh!!! Would you just get together already this is worse than a Harlequin! The author dragged it out too long and then didn't complete it well.

This story had some twists that made it more interesting than your run of the mill romance. Of course you knew that it would turn out OK in the end but the journey to that happily ever after was refreshing to read.

I really enjoyed this book. I hadn't thought much about how syrup its made or about people who live on mountain tops all year and what that would be like. This book gave me that with a pretty cute story.

it was a cute novel, but i didn't feel a ton of emotional attachment to anyone, and the circumstances throughout the book felt forced. It was all very surface-y and didn't strike a nerve. but was a nice book to read on my breaks at work.

Title sounded awful, but do not dispair! A much better read than I expected from the title, as a free Kindle download. I actually found well-developed characters, some realistic life moments and a nice little story I really liked.

I was very disappointed with this free ebook from Amazon. Too many editing errors. Mistakes in continuity and the characters were too inconsistent with their own arcs. Meh. I finished it, because work was slow but I don't rec it.

The book dragged on and on while all they did was internally struggle with the feelings they had for each other and misinterpret every action the other did. That about sums up the entire book. I wish they could have been happier for more of this book. By the time they are happy the book has ended.

Glad this book was a free download. If it wasn't for my OCD whereby I have to finish every book I start reading I would of never got further than 10%!
The whole book was a predictable build up of nothing in my opinion.

It was a good story. A slow, sweet romance. But I was after some steamy scenes and there were NONE. So I knocked a star off just for that. And another star for them being so annoying and trying not to love each other for so long.
