Le Kurdistan iranien se situe au Nord-Ouest du pays, le long de la frontière avec l'Irak. C'est une région montagneuse très pauvre et connue pour être un haut lieu du trafic de cigarettes, d'alcool ou de vêtements. Les villageois y sont exploités par des bandes mafieuses pour faire de la contrebande entre les deux pays, à travers les montagnes. Ils empruntent des chemins mortellement dangereux, passant par les sommets de plus de 4 000 mètres des monts Zagros, en portant des marchandises. Ces contrebandiers sont appelés des « kulbars », et chaque année, plusieurs dizaines d'entre eux trouvent la mort, victimes des gardes-frontière iraniens, des mines antipersonnel, d'avalanches ou des rigoureux hivers de cette région.Dans Les Oiseaux de papier, Jalal, dit l'Ingénieur, est recruté pour participer à l'une de ces expéditions en compagnie d'hommes de son village. Une petite troupe est constituée et entreprend le dangereux périple. Un drame se noue alors entre les membres de l'expédition qui meurent un à un, tandis qu'une jeune femme du village tisse une tapisserie en attendant le retour de Jalal.Cette première fiction de Mana Neyestani est un drame humain saisissant, plein de suspense, qui raconte aussi une histoire de crime d’honneur et le terrible quotidien des habitants de ces régions obligés de prendre des risques insensés pour assurer leur pitance.Une coédition çà et là / ARTE éditions

As histórias das diferentes personagens que este argumento encerra são bastante interessantes. Possivelmente inspiradas em histórias reais, ainda que vagamente, não deixam de sstar bem ficcionadas e, como tal, tornam o desfiar da narrativa interessante para quem está ler. Talvez devesse dar 4 estrelas, mas a verdade é que não gostei especialmente da execução gráfica do argumento, além de o ter achado um bocadito confuso... Mas reconheço que isso possa ter-se devido um pouco à minha desatenção natural... Fui avançando na leitura, é verdade, mas não sei porquê, deixei de me importar muito com as personagens (o que é horrível de se dizer, eu sei)... terá sido porque todo o argumento se dispersa demasiado?
Resumindo, acho que não é um mau livro, mas a mim, não me cativou tanto como eu acho que cativará outros leitores... Por favor, leiam o livro, vale a pena tomar conhecimento desta realidade acerca dos kolbars. Quanto a mim, talvez releia o livro no futuro e, quem sabe, a minha opinião até não muda...!

صدای «ایست» مرزبانها همراه با شلیک گلوله بلند می‌شود و سلیمان، نوجوانی کولبر بر زمین می‌افتد.

فصل اول کتاب «پرندگان کاغذی» در روستایی از توابع بانه کردستان و در ستیغ کوه‌های زاگرس می‌گذرد. روژان نیمه‌شب برخواسته تا سبزی‌ها را خرد نموده و برای پدر آشی بپزد و سپیده دم هم پای دار قالی بنشیند.
فردا صبح مردان روستا برای کولبری عازم می‌شوند و ناصر پدر روژان همراه با جلال مهندس جوانی که دل در گرو عشق روژان دارد هم راهی می‌شوند تا بارهای قاچاق را از ان سوی مرز بر دوش گذاشته و به روستا بازگردند.

الیاس مردی کوتاه قامت و بددهان، عمو رستم پیرمردی خوش ذوق، شانیار پسری نوجوان و …بخشی از مردان روستا هستند که میان طوفان و برف برای گرفتن بار و کولبری همراه شده اند.
حاج حسین که واسطه تاجران عراقی و کولبران کرد ایرانی است و معلوم نیست دیگر چه ارتباطاتی دارد در میانسالی خواستگار روژان است و ناصر چاره‌ای ندارد جز آری گویی به حاجی.

اما روژان آرزوهای دیگری در سر دارد…

در رمان مصور «پرندگان کاغذی» قابهایی زیبا از زندگی مردمانی فراموش شده در مرزهای غربی ایران را خواهیم دید. مردمانی که در صف اول جنگ ایران و عراق بودند و سرزمینی مین‌گذاری شده و داغهایی بر دل عایدی‌شان است. تبعیض و فقر تنها سرمایه عادلانه تقسیم شده بین این مردمان است که انها را وادار به کولبری و حمل کالاهای قاچاق از مرز با قیمت جان برای دریافت نان نموده است.

رابطه پدرسالارانه بین روژان و ناصر، عشق پنهانی روژان به مهندس جلال و تلاش او برای رهایی از خانه پدری و تحصیل در شهری بزرگ بن‌مایه و خط اصلی روایتهای این رمان تصویری است اما زندگی بقیه کولبرها شاخه‌های مهمی برای پردازش داستان دنباله‌دار ظلم و تبعیض در سرزمین کردهاست.

به عنوان معلم و تسیلگرانی که با نوجوانان ایرانی فلسفه ورزی می‌کنید و به دنبال محرکی زنده و پویا برای گفتگو در باب فلسفه سیاست و مفاهیم پایه همچون آزادی، قانون، ظلم و تبعیض و عدالت هستید کتاب مصور پرندگان کاغذی یک گزینه درخشان است. خوانش کتاب بسیار ساده و وابسته به تصاویر پر جزییاتی است که مانا نیستانی هنرمندانه با تحقیق و جستجوی بسیار و دقت در گذران زندگی و اخبار کولبران ساخته و پرداخته است.

خواننده می‌تواند در میان جزییات بصری هر قاب غرق شود گویی میان تارو پودهای رنگین قالی که نقشه ان در ذهن روژان است و طرحش زیر انگشتان او.
می تواند از خود بپرسد:
خطوط قرمزاخلاق کجاست؟
برای زندگی شرافت مندانه می توان قوانین را خم کرد؟
قاچاق و کولبری تنها راه کسب نان باشد می توان بدان دست زد؟
ریشه این قوانین چیست و ایا می توان تغییرشان داد؟

مونولوگهای شخصیتها بسیار سرراست و روشن بوده، قصه را خوب پیش می برند اما دیالوگها بین کارکترهای پرتعداد گاهی گیج کننده می شوند و باید قابها را دوباره مرور کرد تا اتصال و ارتباطها گم نشوند.

این رمان مصور یک اثر ایرانی شایسته تحسین و توجه است و امیدوارم به خوبی دیده و خوانده شود. هر اثری که بخشی از اقوام و سرزمین ایران را با چالشهایی که از سر می‌گذرانند مقابل چشمان نوجوانان این سرزمین بیاورد مهم است و امید انکه تالیف چنین آثار ایرانی و ارزشمندی با نگاه انتقادی و مبتنی بر مفاهیم پایه زیست مدرن بیشتر شود.

امتیاز من به ایده، پرداخت و تصویرگری منحصر به فرد و کیفیت فنی اثر ۴ از ۵ ستاره است.

An important subject but I really didn't connect with how it was told..

Mana Neyastani is most well known for his political kafkaesque autobio An Iranian Metamorphosis. His latest is a fictionalized account of an ill known practice that has been plaguing his home country for decades now: the "kulbar" and their illicit status.

With the coming of globalization and the rise of their quasi totalitarian regime, a lot of Iranian artisans found themselves out of a job, and we're forced to turn to the rising need for contraband. These men, aged 10 to 60, walk arduous and dangerous roads to get their loads through the Iraki-Iranian border. While the economy of both countries profit greatly from them, and they're respected by the people for the danger they put themselves in, they're illegal in the eyes of the law, and are tracked and often shot down by border patrol.

This book follows a group of them trying to make it across on a stormy night.

It's a very tough book, obviously. The subject matter isn't quite on the light side of the spectrum. But Neyastani really doubled down on the tragedy if these peoples' lives. Almost too much to my taste..

This was the first book I read of his and I can't say I'm convinced so far. This art is mostly serviceable, though there's some shining moments, and his writing didn't grab me either. His books do feel "important" though, if that makes sense. I'll give him another shot at least

I loved every second of this beautiful graphic novel. I've had the opportunity to meet Mana at one of his expositions and, while he's quite timid in person, his drawings scream louder than the most extrovert of people. Mana's pen strokes breathe life into the characters and environment so vividly. Even if you've never been to Kurdistan, you can almost smell the fresh air of its mountains. Mana has such a unique talent of adding some humor in the darkest and most tragic of topics. I know I will carry these characters and their journey with me for a long time to come!

I hope it will be translated for Anglophones soon as this definitely deserves an international audience.

I forgot to write a review but it was a quick read, lended by my friend Chloé (ty!)
But really interesting topic which I did not know about beforehand and just dived right into. The story is touching with many characters and backgrounds, which were all interesting.
I don't really know what more to say tbh, the comic was pretty short and ofc it cannot be as precise as I could've wanted it to be, so the little texts before and after were really useful and important.
