This was a really good book! It was different from a lot of fiction I've read. I really liked all of the characters, and thought that the representation of being an empath/HSP was SPOT ON. Dean and Olivia's relationship was really great and developed over time to be even greater. THEY ARE THE ULTIMATE POWER COUPLE! This was a great book with a great idea that was executed really well.

I won this book as part of First Reads here on the GoodReads website.
This is actually the third book that I have won, and the third that is self published.  The difference between this one and the others, though, is simple: Selina actually can write and this book is a really enjoyable read.  It is aimed at young adults, and although it is not a genre I have that much interest in (Paranormal Romance) the quality of the story telling and the likeable nature of the main character soon won me over.
The story is essentially in three chapters, and my initial thoughts were that it was similar to the UK Kids TV show The Tomorrow People, although the powers the advanced humans have are Empathic in nature, rather than teleportation or telepathy.  All seems to be going well, but the group our main character falls in with soon make a rather odd request of her, leaving you unsure of their integrity.  This is soon followed by an act that proves that these are not just Tomorrow People, but BAD Tomorrow People.
The story plays out well, and is left wide open for a sequel.  In fact you can easily see this book as a pilot for a TV show that could get very interesting very quickly.
The book is only 126 pages long, so a very quick read, but it is well written, keeps you interested and makes you want more, and you can't ask for better than that.

First of all, I just want to say a huge thank you to Selina for sending me my copy of Emotionally Charged!

I can pretty much sum up this book with one word: WOW.

Emotionally Charged has an interesting concept, intriguing characters, and a twist in the tail that works so well. I think it can be very easy to get lost in some paranormal stories where a swoony girl ends up falling for a boy with a secret, but not many of them manage to link in to reality beneath the fantastical elements. This story, on the other hand, has a strong moral thread running through it, about the dangers of ego, and how the desire to fit in can sometimes blind you to falling in with the wrong crowd. It’s also empowering to see how Livvy – naive and somewhat unsure at the beginning – grows and matures as we follow her into the world of Empaths.

I really wish the book had been longer because I was enjoying it so much, I didn’t want it to end as soon as it did! But I knew this was a novella, rather than a full-size novel, from the start. I can’t really think of anything to say about Emotionally Charged that would make it any less than five stars for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to delve deeper into the series for more!

Livvy is normal. Normal in the outside and inside. Her dream is to have something interesting and extraordinary happen to her. When an earthquake hits her town she is certain that this is what she was waiting for. She can even feel it. At the same night she gets rescued by a dreamy guy that looks like a superhero and enters the world of the Empaths. But Livvy is about to find out that all that glitters is not gold and that when there is no superhero around, you are the one who has to save the day.

I really enjoyed reading this novella. Livvy was a great character. I can totally understand her need for something extraordinary to happen to her. She was bored of her normal, never changing, flat life and has starving for something more. And when that something more happened she jumped on the opportunity to live her dream. I loved reading about how she got involved with the Empaths and the new extravagant life she is introduced to. And when things started to fall apart and her fairy tale started to fade she took the matter in her own hands and made the decisions for herself. She finally become the hero who saved the day.

This book wasn't terrible. The main character wasn't particularly interesting. She was just a completely boring person, who was the sum of her actions and really nothing else. There is also the fact that the blurb and the beginning of the book make it seem like this is a superhero book. Like some alternate Universe where there were superheroes. But after like the first page, heroes become purely metaphorical. as in "Heroes are good people who help others, even if they have no powers".

Other than that, the book was quite well written, with a (pretty) engaging plot, and at least one likable character (Which was Dean, my favorite)

While a great cozy fireplace read, the story in this book is most definitely driven by the romance, with only a supernatural element. When it comes to the book itself, the storyline has no flaws and is amazing to follow. This book is definitely a great setup for the series. However, moments of emotional upheaval (i.e. finding out that you are an empath) read flat, causing the characters to feel slightly two dimensional. This does not mean that the character development was lacking ... reading this book was delightful to learn what it means to be a hero.

This was a good read. LIvvy has always wanted to be special. So when she finds out that she has a gift that can be used she is happy. However, she soon learns that the people who are like her aren't what she thought. She wants to use her powers for good and they want her to use them for bad. Luckily in the end she finds someone she can trust and gets away.

This book has a lot of potential but because it was so short, it lacked the detail that it needed to be a great book. Overall it was pretty good!

The Empath Chronicles 1
Teenagers with superpowers...
Fueled by emotions...
What could go wrong?
Livvy has always been good at reading emotions, but apart from using it to get out of trouble with her parents, she doesn't consider it a very exciting power.
When disaster strikes and she has to fight to survive, Livvy discovers she can do more than just sense emotions. She can absorb them.
Fear makes her fast. Anger makes her strong.
She is an Empath. And she's not the only one.
Livvy is swept into a world of beautiful superheroes and luxury she's always dreamed of, but is it really as good as it seems?
When her perfect super-life is threatened, Livvy has to choose between what she wants, and what is right.
Can she keep the power of her emotions under control when the life of the boy she loves is at stake?

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:
Livvy always wanted to be a superhero and protect others, but be very careful what you wish for.

After an earthquake Livvy wanted to help to at a shelter, that is until everything changed. For some reason Livvy felt stronger and more alive during the confusion and emotional trauma that everyone was feeling. While trying to help a victim of an assault, Livvy ran into a guy who understood what was happening to her and asked her to join his crew. Now you would think going away with a stranger was not the best move, but for some reason Livvy felt safe and protected. What is really going on and will Livvy unveil the truth in time?

This was an intricate and fast paced story many surprising twists. Livvy may find what she wanted isn’t exactly what she thought.

Livvy is your average teen - except for her ability to sense emotions. Then when disaster strikes her hometown, she meets the mysteriously handsome Jake. He's an Empath, someone who gains superhuman speed and strength from feeding off other people's emotions as well as use them to manipulate. He whisks her away to join his Empath crew, and she dreams of being some kind of superhero with them. But that might not be what they had in mind...

I found Livvy a bit too shallow, always gawking at the guys or admiring clothes (a little bit Clueless teen cliche perhaps?), stuck in her "someday my prince will come" mentality. There'a also not a lot going on to introduce the other characters, so they remain bit-part players who are just names performing actions. Dean is the most likable of the bunch, mainly because he has got a developed character and backstory. This is a quick teen morality tale with supernatural elements which could feel a little rushed in the telling.

That said, it's a good premise with a nice twist. It's well-written and would undoubtedly be most enjoyable for the younger end of the YA audience.

The blurb on this novel had me hooked. A YA superhero series with empathy-based powers? Count me in!
The novel itself opens up in the midst of a disaster scene, and it continues to impress. The perspective of the main character, Livvy, is a fun read. I can't help but adore her wistfulness for romance. Her powers are so well described and I enjoyed the way that they develop throughout the novel. Another thing that develops well as the story progresses is the plot. Layers are added on so gently and skilfully, and before you know it, what started out as a fun, light read, turns into something with a perfect amount of complexity and depth.
I don't want to drop any spoilers, but what I can say is that Emotionally Charged (and the included short story, Emotionally Scarred) was awesome. I am so excited to move on to the next book in the series, and can't finish up this review without saying how talented Selina Fenech is. Not only is her story incredible, but her cover designs are out-of-this-world awesome!

What a blast it was to read this urban fantasy after my last two reads were duds. Emotionally Charged took off right from page one, I love it when I book grabs you right away. Ms. Fenech has a detailed way of writing for young adults without burdening you down in too much flowery description. Her characters are so relatable they seem to jump right off the page. A friend of mine once said "beware the pretty package with the nice bow there just might be snakes inside". This is the case with Olivia's desire to be a superhero with nice clothes, nice car, and super nice home with a super-model looking boyfriend. The book has a surprise ending for me because it didn't go where I expected it to, and her parent, well what can I say you'll just have to find out. I can hardly wait to read book two, the reviews and ratings are even better then book one. I know it's going to be good.

I was given a free copy of the book from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review.

Heart-wrenching, though-provoking twist on the super hero origin story. This is a superhero story with a lot of heart to balance out the action but never gets sappy. Livvy finds herself in a situation both enviable and difficult and makes some decisions where I just wanted to scream at her - BUT it is well told. And as you learn more of her story I can totally see how she went down that path and made those decisions. And then the cast grows - and the story becomes more complex.

The further I got into this book the less I wanted to scream and Livvy and the more I was first understanding her position and later appreciating growth and cheering her on as she maneuvered this crazy and impossible situation! And that ending - BOSS FIGHT SUPREME to well, I won't spoil it but, yep, jumping into book 2.

A natural disaster brings out the superpower of Livvy. She is an Empath. Her strength rises when strong emotions are to be felt. She is swept up by a group of others like her, and embraces her bright future as a hero, always ready to help others in need. But... Things don't go as planned and as she discovers the truth, finds her love, fights for her life, she also starts to find herself.

A compelling, lovable story is the result. With nice characters, good dialog and an unexpected ending.

Recommended!.

What a fantastic book!! I enjoyed this story from the very beginning. It kept me guessing and was really quick and easy to read during a family vacation. It made my trip so much better! I am buying the next one right now and can't wait to see what happens next. I love Selina Fenech's writing and I love buying the physical books because they are just so beautiful. The cover art on this book is beautiful and the art details on the page and chapter numbers are amazing too and makes it feel more special to read. I highly recommend this book!

3.5 stars.

This book, although a nice, fast read, also had parts which felt ruched and unfinished. This includes important parts in the story like when she discovers what her ability is or finding out that the team were actually bad people.

Apart from this though, Dean and Livvy are so cute (my parents would kill me if I asked for someone to live with me). I liked how Selina didn’t just stick to Jake being the lover, and rather made it Dean.

Overall, this book is a fast read with paranormal sub plots

I was pleased to obtain a free copy of this book when I signed up for Selina's mailing list. I wasn't particularly intrigued by the concept, but I decided to give it a shot anyway. She had a fantastic twist near the middle of the book that I didn't see coming at all! The main character was so easy to relate to that I felt the same growing suspicions and reactions to the twist as she did. I have to give Selina props for developing the surprise and the resulting outcome so well.

Author: Selina A Fenech
Narrator: Becke Griggs

I just finished listening to this book on Audible and it was a really good book. I’ve been a fan of Selina Fenech’s coloring books for years, and was excited to listen to one of her books.

The book starts off a little slow, but it quickly picks up and pulls you in. It’s awesome to listen to a book about super powered empaths! Very cool concept!

Livvy accidentally finds out that she has powers. She finds out when things go south that she picked the wrong side. She thought the people she ended up with were good, but they were not. After she finds Dean, everything changes. I can’t wait to see if they can figure out what’s going on and how to move forward.

I enjoyed this story. it was both funny and drove me slightly crazy at the same time. It starts with an earthquake and then Livvy is off on an adventure that was lots of action and emotions. She meets new people and has to deal with a lot. But like any good teen story, it drove me crazy at the same time as I want to slap her a few times and say stop and think for a moment. But that is what also made the story so much fun to read.

Livvy is a teenager who is obsessed with the ideal of perfect (and perfectly attractive) heroes who swoop in and save the day. But when she learns that she has her own superpowers, her ideas of what a hero is and what it takes to be one change. This is a fun young adult novel with a satisfactory amount of character development, action, and romance.

I liked the story, but felt It needed more character building. Livvy has always dreamed of being a hero with powers. Then one day it seems like she has it. What will happen when she falls into the wrong group of people? What about Dean? Can he really help her? Good concept of a story line.

Okay, It wasn’t quite what I had pictured.
I thought more heroes and superpowers but it was more mundane.
The language is good, but the MC lacks depth. The series h's potentiel but I dont think I'll be picking up the next...
