What happens when a battle-scarred hero bent on destroying himself meets an irresistible force by the name of Phoebe?
Lady Phoebe Killigrew is appalled by the scandalous country parties their new neighbor, a war hero marquess, is holding at his estate in Moonstone Landing. She has every intention of keeping well away from him, until a governess arrives at her door with his two nieces. They are mere children and cannot possibly reside under the same roof as that dissolute. When she storms over to demand he reform his ways or she will not give them over to him, she is unprepared for the feelings he stirs in her, for her heart understands his nieces are not the only ones in need of rescuing.
Cormac Stockwell, Marquess of Burness, has given everything for his country, including his left arm. He just wants to be left alone to destroy himself, but his beloved and meddlesome brother has unexpectedly sent Cormac his two little nieces, whom he adores, to care for over the summer. But how can he take them under his wing when he cannot even take care of himself? And now his impudent neighbor, Lady Phoebe, is pounding on his door and insisting he reform his wicked ways or she will not turn over the girls to him. He wants to tell the priggish, but beautiful, nuisance to mind her own business and stay out of his affairs. However, he must have been drunker than he realized when she came to his door, for he asks her to marry him instead.
Is it possible Phoebe, the little lioness next door, can repair the tatters of his damaged heart?
The Moonstone Landing Series The Moonstone Duke The Moonstone Marquess The Moonstone Major
Meara Platt is happily married to her Russell Crowe look-alike husband, and they have two terrific children. She lives in one of the many great towns on Long Island, New York, and loves it, except for the traffic. She has traveled extensively, occasionally lectures and finds time to write. Her favorite place in all the world is England’s Lake District, which may not come as a surprise since many of her stories are set in that idyllic landscape, including her Romance Writers of America Golden Heart award winning story.
What delightful and engaging characters. The main characters are perfect together even though it takes some convincing for the h. She only wants to marry for love and wants a spouse who doesn't cheat. That's where out H is lacking because he has a reputation that would scare away many innocents.
I was applauding the h because she was very verbal, a cheating spouse would break her heart. I can't tell you how often I get upset in a story where a character doesn't speak their mind on this.
The H has known for awhile the h, who takes no prisoners with her speech, is perfect for him. He doesn't believe in love, but knows he likes the h's spirit. What drew me to this couple, is their honest dialogue. Their first scene together had me laughing and felt like I was on there watching it unfold. The author was so descriptive in how it played out I truly felt I had a front row seat.
The H lost an arm in the war and for 3 years hasn't been able to adjust. The h doesn't see him as less than whole and that is the start of his healing. There is an ex mistress that tries to cause trouble but it is soon resolved.
You add the H's nieces to the mix and you knew you were in for an entertaining read. The pace was perfect too. Of course, there were some hiccups along the way, especially with the H's houseguests. My oh my, the H took his word of honor to a whole new level.
Lovemaking within marriage, heat level 2.5 out of 5, filled with love.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romantic, standalone story, a ghost who only the young can see, and a tad of spice. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you some extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase this story. I recommend anything by this author. I can't wait for the next story in the series, which I already pre-ordered. (ljb)
I love everything from Meara Platt. Her stories are so entertaining. Lovely cover too! Will be reading the rest of this series too. A very enjoyable story. 5☆
Enjoyable second book in The Moonstone Landing series
The second book in the The Moonstone Landing series is another satisfying and enjoyable read. This time we follow the story of the Marquess of Burness, Cormac, Cain’s best friend, who was introduced in the first book. Cormac has been leading a dissolute life since he lost his arm from an injury sustained in the days after the Battle of Waterloo. Although he is thought of as a war hero, he does not see any value in his life. But, things are about to change. He moves to Moonstone Landing, the home of the Killigrew sisters and his best friend Cain, the Duke of Malvern. Can Phoebe, the sister of Hen, Cain’s wife, change the trajectory of his life? What happens when his two adorable nieces arrive unexpectedly at his home? I loved the scenes that included the nieces who added a large dose of cuteness to the book and helped make the Marquess a more likeable character. The character development in the story is very good and I found the story line interesting. I appreciated that the author has done a commendable job of dealing with some of the hardships that Cormac, without an arm, faced to lead a “normal” life. The chemistry between Cormac & Phoebe is hot but the love scenes are relatively discreet. I did think that Phoebe’s reluctance could have been handled more quickly but it was consistent with her character. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope that the reader is treated to at least glimpses of Cormac & Phoebe’s life in future books in the series.
I'm loving the Moonstone Landing series!! Meara Platt has a way of writing that keeps your interest at a peak and between the passion, the humour, the intrigue and the backdrop, I had a hard time putting down the book to do my chores!!!
I wasn't too sure about Cormac at first but he sure did redeem himself in my eyes:) When he first met Phoebe and one of the first things out of his mouth was "marry me", I just knew we were in for quite the story! I loved his relationship with his nieces, they were so precious. As for Phoebe, she really tries to resist him but to no avail:) I enjoyed their banter, their outings and how she handled the EX!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed their story and am looking forward to catching up on other Meara Platt books!
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an ARC. I was in the mood for a regency romance and this was such a great read. It was an engaging and quick read. I read it within 2 days. I really enjoyed the banter between the main characters. I also enjoyed seeing how Cormac matured and healed after his war trauma. The characters had a great love story. Also the side characters in the story and the whole town were developed pretty well. I could really imagine the town and all the different people in it. I personally would go live there in a heartbeat. :)
Cormac Stockwell, Marquess of Burness, experiences the magic of the moonstones. Miss Phoebe Killgrew gives him what for because of his scandalous guests. This is nothing but a bad influence on his nieces. Stunned by her set to, he immediately asks her to marry him. Phoebe doesn't trust him, but his sweetness to her and the girls makes it impossible not to. He never can resist his little ducklings. A slow journey for two people to trust in each other and believe in love. Some heat, but mostly hot kisses. Very sweet and very funny. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Another great book in the Moonstone Landing series. Author Meara Platt knows exactly what her readers want in a Regency romance, and she never fails to deliver.
The rake, the lioness & his wee ducklings! There's always a magical quality about Platt's romances that suck you in and make you believe wholeheartedly in the wonder of love at first sight...or should that be love at first hearing. And Phoebe blistering Cormac about his disreputable behaviour, in the defence of his newly arrived impressionable little nieces, was not only priceless but instantly radiated with tangible chemistry. That sang with smile inducing, blush rising, heartmelting and gut-wrenching undertones, that built and matured delightfully throughout, from that first heady setdown and recognition of finding 'the one'. Although, it wasn't the enemies to lovers tale I was expecting, after reading book 1, as the enemy predominantly manifested from within...in their own doubts, or depression...it felt right for the characters and became a really fun spot of, in the moment, escapism that really put a smile on my face. As they fought to conquer not just the internal demons that plagued our war hero due to the loss of his arm, but in the overwhelming, deep, attraction he sparked in Phoebe that scared her witless due to his rakehell, scoundrel, reputation and fear she is nothing more than a passing fancy. Adding a fun, emotionally engaging undercurrent to the witty banter, sweet playful moments with the girls, teasing flirtation, heavily-loaded-heat-packed looks and honest anguish that pushed and pulled them together in such a sweet, they even made me cry, way. As we focus more on the emotional, character driven, change evoking, journey the pair embarked upon, with a spot of manipulative scheming and questionable friends interwoven within to add to the insecurities, uncertainties and internal conflict afoot. To make this an emotionally entangling path to salvation, love and happiness with a stop off to seek and nurture much needed trust along the way between two strong personalities that grow and flourish to become the perfectly imperfect balance for each other. I really am enjoying my time in the idealic village of Moonstone Landing, with its in each others pocket, well-meaning meddling community feel, that the place resonants so clearly. Where I really do hope for a match between Chloe and Lieutenant Brennan next, two too young at the minute but with so much potential to be perfect for each other as they grow into their own. Fingers crossed the magic continues!
~I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own~
The Moonstone Marquess is the third book in a series though it can be read as a standalone. This is a cute, insta-love story. At least, it's an insta-propose marriage story between Cormac and Phoebe. However, Cormac's past does haunt him a bit because it gives Phoebe pause to trust him and therefore, she does not take the marriage proposal seriously. This further isn't helped by the guests Cormac has been keeping in his residence and a past paramour giving him strife. While I would have loved for a bit more self-discovery to happen for Cormac independent of Phoebe, I did love the conversation they had between them in regard to Phoebe being a savior to Cormac. For example this part: "Do not say this. You cannot say you are doing it for me." "But why not? I am here because of you." "Do not play with my affections or put that burden on me. It is not up to me whether you succeed or fail." I feel like there are a lot of books with this theme of the other person saving them but rarely is a conversation like this done between the two main characters. Phoebe is right, it isn't up to her whether Cormac changes for good or bad. There are funny parts, for example Cormac and Phoebe's first meeting where she lambasts him for his decisions especially in regards to his nieces when they first arrive. And while this book is insta-love, it isn't insta-trust which I think is an important aspect in this story. It's also one that I wish I saw more often and talked about as forthright as Cormac and Phoebe. As stated above, I do wish there had been more self-growth spurred on by Cormac's own discoveries instead of it being planted predominately on Phoebe and his want to be with her. Also the last 20-30 pages could have had one small bump in the road to make things a little more interesting or it could have ended a tad bit earlier and fleshed out the epilogue just a tad more instead. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading on in the series.
There's just enough magic in the moon stones of Moonstone Landing to bring two people together who are so right for each other.
The Moonstone Marquess Is the follow up book to the Moonstone Duke by Maera Plat. This was a lovely story featuring Phoebe, the second sister living in the haunted Moonstone Cottage by the sea, and Cormac, a Marquess we met in book one.
Cormac has come to Moonstone Landing to recuperate and maybe find himself again. He returned from war with a badly infected left arm and 3 years ago he had to have the armed amputated. He still feels that loss.
The absence of a limb doesn't phase Phoebe. When his adorable nieces arrive for months' long visit, Cormac is not prepared for them and has a house full of disreputable guests. Phoebe refuses the little girls to set foot in his home until he gets rid of his guests.
Hearing Phoebe's brother in law the duke (from book one) speak of Phoebe, Cormac is intrigued to meet her. He's recently purchased the nearby estate so that he could be closer to Phoebe. Cormac had become intrigued by the idea of her. And he is enraptured when he realizes that she is everything that he imagine she would be. Phoebe is not worldly but she is not a fool and her new neighbor surprises her. She knows have his reputation as a rake. He cleans up his act so he can woo her and win her heart.
This is a simple and elegant story about the healing power of love. There are no spicy scenes until after marriage although there are a few pretty hot kisses. The focus of the story is Cormac winning Phoebe's heart. The supporting characters do not overpower the story and Cornac's nieces are adorable.
I really enjoyed this. 5 stars. Its my favorite of the series, so far.
The Moonstone Marquess by Meara Platt Moonstone Landing #2
Phoebe does not see Cormac in a very good light the first time they meet, and tells him exactly what she thinks of him, his guests, his behavior, and then heads home to care for his nieces that should have been staying with him. They get off to a rocky start but over time Cormac’s better side begins to show and things do improve.
What I liked: * Phoebe: fiery & fierce, innocent, lives with her sister Chloe, artist, has the typical skills of a lady, giving, caring, kind, empathetic, has some trust issues, drawn to Cormac * Cormac: marquess, issues dealing with his limitations due to the loss of his arm, honest, keeps his promises, protective, more than his rakish past, skeptical about love but drawn to Phoebe * That Phoebe stands up to Cormac * Cormac’s respect for Phoebe * Imogen and Ella: Cormac’s nieces, young, trusting, and loving * The supporting characters: sisters, brothers, in-laws, trusted servants, citizens of the town * Being reminded of the story The Ghost & Mrs. Muir in the story of ghostly Captain Brioc Taran Arundel and his love for Phoebe’s aunt Hen * The introduction of Lieutenant Fionn Brennan and wondering what part he will play in future books * Wondering who Chloe will end up with * That Carmoc’s younger brother, James, never gave up on him despite his surly behavior * That Cormac and Phoebe seemed to be a good match
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Thinking about how miserable some people in this book must have been and how miserable they made others.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I Read more by this author? I think so
Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade for the ARC – this is my honest review.
This is part of the Moonstone Landing series and is a lovely addition to the series. Ms. Platt's stories are always wonderfully written and she effortlessly pulls you in to her magical world of love. This story was no different! Cormac Stockwell, Marquess of Burness and war veteran, is neighbor to Lady Phoebe Killigrew, but has not been behaving very neighborly. She is annoyed by the outrageous parties he throws, and when his two nieces show up with their governess, she has had enough and storms over to his residence to tell him just that. But when she confronts him, she is shocked to realize that his nieces are not the only ones in need of rescuing. She doesn't trust him, and her mistrust deepens when he out of the blue asks her to marry him. Cormac had a heard a lot about Phoebe and was intrigued with her, and when he finally met her, she was everything he imagined and more and became completely captivated by her. Cormac is a broken man, in need of help. He lost a lot in the war, and is still trying to adjust, and Phoebe just might be the lady to help him. Such a beautiful love story! It was wonderful to see how Phoebe didn't put up with any nonsense and helped Cormac mature and heal after his war trauma. They were an entertaining couple and I loved the banter between them. A fantastic addition to the series! I'm looking forward to the next one! I received a complimentary copy from Dragonblade Publishing and Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Meara Platt is one of my favorite authors. There isn't a book yet that I have read written by her that I didn't absolutely adore. I was extremely fortunate to receive an ARC of The Moonstone Marquess from Netgalley. Cormac Stockwell, Marquess of Burness has recently purchased a home near one of his friend's (a duke) home in Moonstone Landing. Phoebe Killigrew is said Duke's sister in law and is horrified when she first meets Corman, reeking of alcohol, with his debauched lady friend's hanging out of his home windows barely clothed. Fantastically, all Cormac does is kiss Phoebe and tell her to marry him. Ever since Cormac lost one of his arms, he has been a grumpy grouchy fella to say the least. However, after meeting his little lioness Phoebe, he now has the desire to become a better man for her sake. This story is a beautifully written tale about living with one's faults, trying to correct them as well as misunderstandings that arise because of what appears to be true rather than what actually is the truth. I also adored Cormac's interactions with his two young nieces. A great read!
Lady Phoebe Killigrew is appalled by the scandalous country parties their new neighbour, a war hero marquis, is holding at his estate in Moonstone Landing. She has every intention of keeping well away from him, until a governess arrives at her door with his two nieces. They are mere children and cannot possibly reside under the same roof as their uncle. Cormac Stockwell, Marquis of Burness, has given everything for his country, including his left arm. He just wants to be left alone to destroy himself, but his beloved and meddlesome brother John has unexpectedly sent Cormac his two little nieces, whom he adores, to care for over the summer. There are some books that just draw you in & are a joy to read – this is one of those books. The hero is grumpy, a rake, a war hero, adores his two ducklings & is brought to his knees by one feisty lady who sees the man not the title or the wounded hero. I loved everything about the book, it was just brilliant & whilst it could be read on its own I’d seriously recommend reading the first book & the novellas. Why ? because it’s a series not to be missed. Kudos to the author My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Beautifully written, this sweet romance made me laugh and at times feel sorrow as the battle-worn and physically damaged Marquess of Burness has to sober up and face his responsibilities. Napoleon never had the ability to challenge Cormac in quite the same way as Lady Phoebe Killigrew did. A house party gone wrong makes Cormac realize that if he wants to spend time with his nieces, he is not only going to have to reform but clean up the mess as well. Unfortunately, things get worse before they become better and for the first time Cormac discovers that where his honor is concerned, he cannot depend on gentle words or a winning smile. Phoebe may well be a naive young woman living in a backwater, according to the Londers, but she has a good head on her shoulders and quickly takes charge of the situation in the house next door. Falling in love with Cormac comes with risks, and eventually, Phoebe sees that she cannot put all the blame on Comac, and with the help of her ghostly relatives, the novel comes to a delightful conclusion. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The Moonstone Marquess by Meara Platt is a historical romance novel that tells the story of Lady Phoebe Killigrew and Cormac Stockwell, Marquess of Burness. Lady Phoebe is appalled by the scandalous country parties their new neighbor, a war hero marquess, is holding at his estate in Moonstone Landing. She has every intention of keeping well away from him until a governess arrives at her door with his two orphaned nieces. When she storms over to demand he reform his ways or she will not give them over to him, she is unprepared for the feelings he stirs in her.
It’s a heartwarming story about love and redemption that will leave you feeling satisfied, I loved the epilogue and Cormac may be my new favorite book hero, he is hot. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing, and I voluntarily read & reviewed this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.
Another pseudo-historical romance set in a Regency-inspired setting with a supernatural touch. The previous book in the series told the story of the first of three sisters and a duke, and this one is about the second sister and a marquis (the duke's friend). I didn't like the first book in the series much, but I decided to give this second one a try, just in case. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I liked it less. I forced myself to finish it and, once I did, the primary feeling was relief, followed by regret. My criticisms of the first book still apply here, and the overall quality seems (to me) very poor. Since the book has very high ratings and the author is very popular, I suppose many readers will disagree with me, but it's certainly not my cup of tea. So, I suppose I won't be reading any more books in this series (or by this author) in the near future.
This is another fascinating read about growing wise and growing into love at Moonstone Landing. The Killigrew sisters are strong young women, but Phoebe is also extremely proper and very outspoken. And upon meeting her new neighbor, the Marquess of Burness … let’s just stay that each made a significant impact on the other. The story that follows that meeting is the evolution of both characters and their feelings as one loosens up a bit and the other becomes the person they were meant to be. Of course, love plays a huge role, but I like to think that, perhaps, there were subliminal messages imparted by those special ghosts Brioc (the sea captain) and Hen (the girls’ aunt) into particular ears that need just a little push.
This was a quick, sweet romance. I did not read the first book so I didn’t know any of the characters. However, this didn’t stop me from enjoying the book.
It was an unrealistic-love at first sight-opposites attract romance. Even though it was unrealistic, I still really enjoyed it. I loved the male character who had a lot of redeemable qualities. The female character was also lovable and a firecracker.
I do wish there was a bit more drama that lasted longer. It seemed to be resolved quickly. Also, always more smut is appreciated. I do wish the magical/ghost aspect was more developed as well.
This book was a good introduction to the author and made me want to read more by them.

Brilliantly written by Meara, this book is absolutely spellbinding, I couldn’t put it down, every page had another touching moment or funny predicament. Cormac the Marquess, what’s not to love about this guy, even when he’s drunk he’s awesome, funny, breathtaking or downright hilarious. Phoebe, she’s a lioness protecting what is hers, defending her self, or Cormac, even if it’s from himself, or an Ex. The kids, wow so adorable, they make this book in parts, so cute, and there is no telling what will come out of their mouths next, a funny comment or lunch. You’re in for the best treat, enjoy!
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Lady Phoebe Killigrew is a lioness. Brave, strong, stalwart no foolishness. Marquess of Burness, Cormac Stockwell is arrogant, a rogue and has a horrid reputation among the ton. When his nieces are brought to Lady Phoebe’s home because he is hosing a adult house party and it is certainly no place for little girls. Lady Phoebe heads to his home and proceeds to dress him down royally. For his drunken debauchery. He listens to her and promptly proposes! He sets out to rid himself of his house guests. Fulfill his promise to a military friend and prepare a younger brother to inherit his title. And win he heart and hand of Lady Phoebe.
Cormac a Marquess, wounded war veteran, and well known rake is angry and bitter after losing his arm. To escape the ton he buys a property near his friend Cain, the Duke. Phoebe, sister in law to Duke Cain did not have a good first meeting with Cormac. He was drunk and in the middle of a scandalous party at his home. Phoebe had no tolerance for it. But Cormac is immediately smitten and proposes. He has a long road ahead to convince Phoebe he is ready to change and commit only to her. I loved Cormac. His struggle with his loss was so real as was his love for Phoebe.
I took this story to be a lighthearted romance. It was serious, but not too serious. It was almost as though the characters enjoyed their happiness from the joy of living and putting their noses in everyone’s business with their own critiques. I did have fun reading the very spicy romance between the two characters. Phoebe and Carmac are the absolute entertainment of the story. Their engaging interactions are the funniest that I have ever read. I do love it that Phoebe sees Carmac clear as day. I also love it that his nieces can always bring him back to his normal loving, caring self. This a sweet story that I curled up with to read.
An emotionally distraught Marquess with one arm finds true love in a special place with a lioness of a heroine. Phoebe is amazing. Cormac and Phoebe’s dialogues are fun and interesting to read. They discuss the meaning of love, commitment and trust. He opens his heart and shares his soul and vulnerabilities. She stands up to him and for him. It is a wonderful romantic story even with a true villain. Meagan Platt writes sweet, sentimental romances that flow logical and make you feel good.
This series is one of my favorite. I love the addition of the ghosts and the inclusion of the side characters and people in the town. The second of the three nieces of Hen, Phoebe, finds love but can she trust her heart. Most of all, can she trust the love of a man who has a terrible reputation. Cormac has lived with the dream of Phoebe for three years. When they finally meet he immediately ask her to marry him while hungover and not making a good first impression. We get to see both of them grow and learn to trust and follow their hearts.
Phoebe is incensed when her neighbor’s young nieces arrive for the summer and he is too drunk with his guests to notice. She scolds Cormac and takes his nieces to her cottage until he can send his wild friends away. When he sees how beautiful Phoebe is, he decides to straighten up his life and settle down with her. Now he just has to convince her to trust him. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
