Rate this book
In the blink of an eye, Lauren Brownly’s life changed forever. Late one night the concert pianist witnessed a grisly murder, and with it came a devastating truth: Her career had been financed by crime lord Carlo Giovessi. Now Lauren’s testimony against him could finally bring him down.

Terrified and utterly alone, Lauren must trust in one man—Sam Grey Wolf Rawlins. She is powerfully drawn to the rugged FBI agent who took her into protective custody, but Wolf cannot dismiss the shocking allegations about Lauren’s personal involvement with the mobster.

Their traitorous emotions—and their survival skills—are put to the ultimate test when their plane crashes during a blizzard. Now they are stranded in the mountains with hit men hot on their trail, and danger is closing in on Lauren and Wolf. There’s a traitor in the ranks of the FBI and Wolf knows there is nowhere safe to hide—except in a world he left behind long ago…

I liked it, though it didn't wow me. I thought the survival situation was a bit more fleshed out than some survival romance stories. But I don't believe for a minute Lauren could have hiked/ran/climbed all she did, even if she was in shape. That part was pretty unbelievable. But for plot reasons she had to, so I overlooked it. Sam was an abrupt ass for about half the book, basically barking orders and being rude. Like, total dick. Then the second half started and they became intimate and things were more romance-novel like. The mobster plot was dealt with pretty quickly and too conveniently, IMO. Same with the dirty FBI agents. I am also unsure about the no white people can be on the Reservation thing. Might be true for all I know, but it came off as a manufactured plot point to get them married. (I mean, she was with Sam, who is a tribal member, surely she could have stayed as his guest?). I don't know...😶‍🌫️ All in all, it was a good read.

4/5 stars!

You wouldn’t believe I picked this book up in a church book sale when I went to visit a national trust property. They have some pretty steamy books in that sale!

I have never heard of this book or the author before so I was going in pretty blind. The premise sounds so exciting and intriguing to me. I love when a character is on the run and being protected and they both don’t get along and then along the way they fall for one another.

This book was so fast paced and exiting just action after action after action, twist and turns (not massive ones), steamy romance scenes (wasn’t graphic but still pretty hot) and an enemies to lovers trope thrown in the mix this book was pretty fun.

I wasn’t so keen on Sam at times. He said some pretty misogynistic comments especially about Lauren in the beginning and just about women in general. He said the word whore way to many times thinking she was the mob bosses mistress so it makes her a stupid whore. Even if she was his mistress that doesn’t make her less of a person or a ‘stupid whore’ but I understand this book is from 2003 things have changed massively not just in the world but in literature as well you wouldn’t get away with it now thank god.

But I did like the enemies to lovers trope and they actually didn’t like each other for real. Not just some books that are supposedly enemies to lovers and it’s just a small tiff. He did comes across gruff and sometimes he was way too mean to her even she had something to say about it. She stood up for herself quite a lot I wish she stood up for herself wayyy more but she did stand her ground with him. Also one minute he hated her next minute he’s calling her baby and wont stop being nice to her. It wasn’t a gradual process which was a bit unrealistic.

But I really loved how the author gave them such character. A backstory and hardship that Sam was half Native American I felt the author dealt with that well it was such a good addition to the story. How Lauren lost her father and she had an accident that stopped her from playing as much music how her fiancé left her when she stopped making as much money. They were well fleshed our characters they didn’t feel like John and Jane Does like you do in some romance books.

I will defiantly be looking out for more books published by Mira I keep looking for the star logo on books now and I even saw one in the charity shop which was a romantic suspense by that publication because I want more!

This was an amazing book. It was so good I had to get a copy. Like the crime scenes, the misunderstandings between Lauren and Sam.. Like Sam's point of view of Lauren at the beginning got me screaming for him to see how innocent and hurt she is.. And their bond (Relationship was on a new level) was so cute and the court case delivered on the thrill that was there through out the book.

Great book! Enemies to lovers type of romance.
Poor girl witnesses a mob murder and goes on the run with an FBI agent assigned to protect her. They run into an immense amount of trouble all while fighting an overwhelming attraction to each other. Perfect plot for an action packed romance novel!

This book is just like another typical detective book written by female author. It ended up with romance between the FBI officer and the witness. A part from that, I really like the background of the FBI inspector. He is a half-blooded native American. He had a very bad past and was being an officer just to run from his bad past. Usually in detective book, the police will be very very strong even though they had a very bad past. But, in this novel, we can spot the weaknesses of the officer directly. This make the two couple really balance in position. The witness, even though cannot do anything except playing piano, can feel the gap of the officer loneliness and emotional sadness. From this book, I also learn about how Native-Indian America behave and I know a bit about Navajo tribe too. :)

I liked this book because it was one of the first romances I'd ever read and about three weeks before I picked it up randomly at a store, I had a dream that almost the exact same thing happened and I was like "Oh my god! I have to write a story about that!" so I wrote down the plotline and then I read this and was like fuck. Anyway, the story is interesting enough although I'm not big into Native American plotlines. Like the protaganists struggle with his background and his life. I mean, I'm Native American for heaven's sake and I was like *get over it already, man!* And I didn't enjoy the white woman/brown man plot because it's so overdone and boring. But, the secondary characters and the heroine's little quirks were amusing, so I give it three stars.

If I could give this book six stars, I would! It is fast-paced from the first page right up until the end! I stayed up way too late one night to read it. The characters are believable, the plot is well written and I loved it!
