Rafael Huntsman, crown prince of a sinful empire. Possessive. Dangerous. Achingly beautiful. And consumed by a chilling past.
When I was nineteen he laid eyes on me, like it was the very first time. From that moment, I was his. Although it was much later, under a moonlit sky in a vineyard awash with fairy lights, that I surrendered--and he disappeared. Until fate intervened.
Now we're forced together in a treacherous criminal world. He's still dangerously seductive, but I'm not an innocent girl anymore. I have a secret that puts us both in peril--and there's no going back.
Forbidden fruit has never been sweeter...
Pride is the first book in a friends to enemies to lovers heart-stopping journey that ends with Wrath. It is set in the Huntsman world, and while it is not necessary to have read A Sinful Empire Trilogy before reading Pride, it contains spoilers.
I didn't know how much I missed Huntsman world till I started Pride. Eva Charles has delivered another captivating and sensational romance with an antiheroe who made me all breathless and obsessed and with a sassy and fierce heroine who made my antihero obsessed. Sizzling hot forbidden chemistry. Mind bending twists and suspense. Raw heartaching overwhelming feels. To say that I am crazy about Rafael and Alexis will be the understatement of the century!
This is book one of a duet and ends with a cliffhanger.Rafael Huntsman is getting ready to take over responsibilities of Huntsmen empire for Antonio Huntsman, the man who saved him and has given him everything. His nightclub is his own kingdom. And while taking down a group of dangerous sex traffickers, he has to save Alexis. His sister’s best friend and the woman he wants but he cannot have. He has to keep her in the Huntsman property for now because it's not safe. She is daughter of a dangerous man who is a family friend too and she always rebels against rules. They cannot deny the passion but is Alexis too impulsive to put everyone at risk?
Rafael is made from the same Clay as Antonio but also different. His childhood was ugly. Full of trauma, loss and abuse. Antonio has put his pieces together and made him a proud Huntsman. He is ruthless in business. He is merciless with Enemies. He is a formidable enemy. He is the alpha next in line. But even the strongest alpha would be tried by Alexis. There is an age gap so obviously she is less mature but that doesn't mean she is naive. Her family is powerful too and she knows she has target on the back of her head. Her father’s recent over controlling behaviour is making her act even more reckless. She constantly questions and defies the rules of their dark world. She put herself in risk because she wants justice too. Rafael resisted their sizzling hot chemistry since that day of his sister’s wedding. He knows he cannot control Alexis. He wants to give her as much freedom as possible. But he is also a possessive and protective over the top alpha antihero and he will go to any length to keep her safe. At the end, they are at a crossroad. For Rafeal, loyalty and truth are most important. Even the woman he is falling for is no exception. Alexis is heading towards big trouble and it may be too late for Rafael.
Starting off with Rafael’s childhood made my heart feel like it had been to war, knowing the boy who had been through what he did gave me an insight to what made him the man he is today and why he does what he does. And let me tell you, I knew it wouldn’t take much for him to melt my heart, the situation he’s thrown in with Alexis had me giving heart eyes from offset (and throughout)
“𝙉𝙤𝙬 𝙗𝙚 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙗𝙚𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨.”
My heart eyes never left, I’m applying to be the new emoji because all the practice I got from reading this I think I’ve perfected it. I only slipped once when he suggested no promises between them, because as the reader I know that will come back to bite him in the ass, and I do love that kind of situationship
… it’s always juicier this way 😏 especially when they’ve got the witt and sharp tongue Lexie has.
With the spice, my god, I KNEW from the moment she made that joke about the flogger and he flipped the script that she was the type to keep him on his toes but he’s the kind of man that does his best work on his tip toes, if you know what I mean, and that’s what makes the spice top tier for me, add in a comment about his toys being at his apartment and all that’s left of me is a pile of ashes from the power of this heat.
Holy sweet mother above, this book had me from the first chapter. WHAT A BOOK! Thank you, Eva Charles and your team, for sending me the eARC. I loved every page and very soon I'll pick up the trilogy too (I'll just ignore my TBR because I can't keep up :))))
"Pride" is a perfect name for this book. These devilish men have a lot of pride in them, especially Rafa and it will cost him dearly... I can't believe you left us with that ending!!!!! IT'S NOT FAIR!!!! I can't wait for the next book. And I can totally see why the next is called "Wrath".
This book has it all: steamy scenes, action scenes, and possessive males :))) (blame the fantasy books for loving these kinds of males:)))) Also, it has a lot of mystery coming from our dear Lexie who has a lot of control over Rafa, even if at first he's the one in control. But after what she did to him and how she made him feel, I think it's safe to say she had control the entire time :)))
I love Rafa and his team. They don't quiver, they aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty and they don't pay someone else to do their dirty work. They are ruthless and precise, and they don't leave loose ends. I hope he will let his pride aside and stop being such a d*** with Lexie :))) although I know he means well. Still, let the girl live!
Thank you again for sending me the eARC. I loved it and I can't wait for the next book, because that ending crushed me. You left us hanging just like you did with Rafa!!!!
'The Huntsman empire continues with the next generation and a whole barrage of danger, desire and all things deadly. Welcome back to Porto, ladies and gentlemen.' - The British Bibliophile
Thank you to Eva Charles for sending me an Advanced Readers Copy for me to read and leave an honest review, as part of her ARC team.
Pride is book four in the Sinful Empire series by Eva Charles, but is book one in a duet within the series. This will be followed by Wrath --book five--, completing the duet and adding to the series later on this year.
We had quite the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am introduction to the magnetising world that the Huntsman men live, breathe and control. Greed kicked us off with one hell of an introduction on just how potentially dark, dangerous and deadly the trilogy would be and was it an omen of things to come! It's deliciously dark romantic mafia suspense had me hooked and hanging onto Eva's every word until book two, Lust where I began to hang even further on that teasing cliffhanger. Envy rounded and wrapped things off nicely and gave an ending to a fantastic trilogy/series. Or so I thought.
Like royalty, the heir is here ready and waiting to take the throne and wear the crown of the Empire. Next in line, Rafael Huntsman.
Rafael's story was not one I had anticipated after my heart had bid farewell to the series after book three, but I'm so grateful to Eva for treating us readers to more Porto, Huntsman and everything in and out of control in their world. We first met Rafael in the original trilogy and he had potential to have his own story and for a chance for his backstory and history prior to becoming a Huntsman, to be told. And here it is. And he's not alone.
Alexis Clarke is unlike any female lead you've ever met. She's more like Rafael than Rafael realises, at least at first. She's a woman on a mission--literally--and in a heavily-dominated male world where women are meant to do what they're told, be what they're told to be, she's out there doing her own thing and showing that gender doesn't matter when there's someone's end that needs to happen and she's the one to do it. Man or no man. She's the woman for the job and is out there getting it done.
Our main characters meet not once, but twice. Technically. As first impressions go, they both made one hell of one on each other and they didn't even know who each other was or the worlds they circulated in. World. Two beings in their own worlds are colliding in the same underground world where fate now has taken the wheel. The drive may be long--separating the two for a little bit--, but the destination is the same.
The reunion with an Eva Charles has never been more rewarding and welcome than with Pride , it blew me away more than I could ever write in a review and I'm really glad that this is a duet because if it was a standalone, I was certainly going to beg--yes, beg--for more Rafael Huntsman. That man left my jaw dropped and cheeks flushed many times throughout this novel. You'll see for yourselves why when you grab a copy and dive back in (or get to know for the first time) the mad, mafia world and the Huntsman men.
Eva Charles demonstrated here what I know and love about the dark romance/mafia romance world, and I'm once more on the edge of my seat thanks to that ending, hanging on for things to be wrapped up in Wrath . See you all then!
The highly anticipated wait for PRIDE by Eva Charles was worth every minute. The latest installment of the Sinful Empire Trilogy does not disappoint! 5-Stars
Swoonworthy Rafael Hunstman and the now very grown up Alexis (Lexie) Clarke take their place center stage in this duet and the sexual tension is through the roof! An intimate moment shared in the past creates for the angst, as neither of them forgot. Years later, they find themselves face to face when Lexie lands herself in a sketchy situation, threatening her life. As pissed as Rafael is with her, he cannot deny that his feels for her are much more than looking out for his niece, Valentina's best friend with an uber-overprotective father. Together, they find themselves knee-deep in a human trafficking ring and both of them are forced to face reality- they both want and need each other like they need air to breathe.
When I found out that Rafael would be receiving his own story, I was over the moon thinking that I would get another heaping serving of that Hunk-- er, excuse me... Huntsman fire that is ever-present in GREED, LUST, and ENVY. Well, I wasn't let down in the least as this book was "all that" and then some!
Make no mistake... while you can see the commanding presence and badassery in Rafael as having raised been raised by Antonio, Rafael is his own damn man, and you see this in his actions and the way he interacts with Lexie and his entourage. Lexie was raised by strong, alpha-parents, so you can guess correctly that she is going to be a handful for whomever she is with. What I love most about her is that she wasn't bratty or entitled despite being sheltered her entire life. As you can expect, when you put two individual powerhouses with strong personalities in the same room, you get smexy, explosive fireworks!
These two singed the cover of my Kindle they burned so hot! I should send the bill for another to Ms. Charles seeking damages! :)
I kid you not, the cliffhanger had me literally on the edge of my seat and whimpering out loud. I will be biting my nails until WRATH. I've already cleared my calendar on its release day!
The long awaited, highly anticipated next story in Eva Charles' Sinful Empire spinoff series did not disappoint!! Rafael is still fire incarnate and the woman Charles created for Rafa had to be a badass vixen in every way! Lexie Clarke is an amazing partner for the delicious Rafa. But secrets and pride threaten everything they may build along the way.
The cliffhanger ending is keeping me awake, in all the best ways. I'm on pins and needles for the next chapter in this trilogy!
Pride is the wall that separates two bleeding hearts
Rafael is a grown man in this book but he still lives with traumas from childhood. He can’t trust people and even though he cares for them, he can’t show his true heart. Then, Lexie returns into his life to bring chaos. They know each other since they’re young because they’re practically family. Rafael is older but Lexie doesn’t care, she likes him and she got a taste of him one night and can’t forget him. Lexie is risking her life for a good cause but she gets into deeper waters than she anticipated and she knows that Rafael is the only man capable of helping her. The chemistry between them is undeniable, they’re older and they can’t resist temptation but their pride keep them from showing how much they care for each other. Lexie moves foward with her plans but she doesn’t know that danger is closer than she thinks. Rafael knows but he may be too late and it’s tearing him apart. I read this book as an ARC and couldn’t stop reading it. I enjoyed the story, love scenes are steaming hot and can’t wait to read the second part of this book. I recommend all Eva Charles books, she’s an amazing writer!
Pride is a proper title for this book. Between Will , Rafael & Lexie they all need to swallow there pride & let Lexie life unfold the way she wants to experience it. I felt each emotion that Rafael & Lexie experienced whether it was joy or heartache. I feel Lexie maybe over her head on her journey to find the bad people . I pray that Rafael is able to be the man she felt he was . Ended on a cliffhanger, excited to read wrath & get more questions answered.
this is the 4th book in the sinful empire series, and i loved it just like i loved the first 3! (though daniela and antonio will always have my heart) my favorite parts of this series are the covers (obviously! they’re so simple but beautiful) and the fact that they take place in portugal. i feel like that’s not an area where a lot of books take place, but it definitely made sense and i loved it.
i felt like this one didn’t have as much oomph as the first 3 books, but i still ate that shit up. i loved being able to read about valentina as an adult (and married!!!) but it definitely took me a minute to realize this book took place waaay after the first 3. it made me want to go back and re-read the first 3 books to get acquainted with the characters again.
lexie!!!!!!! i adored the fact that she wasn’t afraid to take matters into her own hands, even if it meant putting herself in danger. rafael?????? we love a man who communicates. and the angel wings!? 🥹 that shit had my heart bursting!!!!
i’m excited to start the next book and see what happens after that cliffhanger!!!
I am so excited that we finally get Rafael's story! He is protective, a little rough and absolutely amazing. I loved Lexie! She is fierce, confident, rebellious and bravesmart, and sassy. She is the perfect match for Rafael. This storyline is addicting, intriguing and full of suspense. The ending left me anxiously waiting for more! I can't wait to see how Rafael and Lexie's journey ends!
This was a great start to Rafael and Lexie’s forbidden love story. It was packed full of drama, danger, and intrigue and their cheeky banter and sizzling chemistry had me glued to my seat until that cliffhanger left me screaming for more.
Kindle Unlimited: Yes Stand-alone: No- Duet Author: Eva Charles Rating: 5/5 ⭐️ Spiciness Rating: 3/5 🌶 POV: First Person Dual Perspective Main Couple: Rafael and Alexis Trope(s): Forced Proximity, Age-Gap, Dark Romance
“There’s a flicker of mischief in her eyes, and I should warn her that tonight is not the night to push me, but I don't’ . I want her sass. Her insolence. I want something to push back against. An excuse to take and take, because I’m not in the mood to give. Not even to you, Angel.”
Pride is part of Eva’s Porto world. If you read Daniela and Antonio’s Trilogy, you will be familiar with the characters in this book. Although you can read this book independently, reading the books in order will provide more information and background. This is a long detailed read. Eva does not shy away from triggering topics. However, she handles them with care. The suspense begins building right from the start. As does the heat. At one point it feels as if there are two stories happening, but I have a feeling both plot lines meld into one shocking truth bomb that Eva is going to drop on us in the next book. This review is slightly difficult to write, not because I didn’t completely love the book, I did, I just do not want to give too much of the plot away. But, if you love your romance edge with darkness, gripping with suspense, twist and turns, are not put off by triggers, enjoy a protective alpha and a bad ass independent h, this will be for you. But, remember Eva leaves us on a cliffy that had me gasping out loud.
Alexis Clarke has been leading a double life. Her home life is falling apart and she feels suffocated in her life by her father and his need for control At a crossroads with the path she is on she wants for meaning from her life. This path puts her in very real danger. Finding herself between a rock and a hard place she heads to Rafael Huntsman’s club, Sirena.
Rafael cannot believe his eyes when Alexis walks into his club. Not because she is there, but the company she is keeping. Nothing between them has been the same since the night of Valentina’s wedding when they acted on their desires and he pulled away. And then ghosted her like a child.
Now Alexis is in serious danger and on the radar of very dangerous faceless people.
Trust is extremely important to Rafael. His life and livelihood depend on it. When he thinks Alexis has betrayed him, he taints all that they have shared for weeks with his cruel words.
With her heart shattered, Alexis decides to head back to her life in London. As she is doing so, the reasons for coming to Porto give new life to her mission.
However, those dangerous faceless people, just maybe closer than anyone knew.
Pride by Eva Charles, is the fourth book in the Series A Sinful Empire, but it's the first in this couple's duet, it's my first book by this author and it couldn't have been a better story! Pride brings us Rafael Hunstman and Alexis (Lexie) Clarke, who years ago shared an intimate moment that neither has been able to forget, but now they meet again when Lexie finds herself in a situation that threatens her life, and although Rafael still has a little resentment for her can not help but try to help and protect her, what they did not expect was to be involved in a network of human trafficking and what leads them to realize their true feelings for each other. This book captivated me from the first chapter and that ending!! OH MY GOD!!!!! I can't wait for the second part.. This duology is part of a series but you can read it without problems, like I did, but I'll take the time to look for the previous books because all the characters are super interesting! This story is full of heartbreak, passion, action and mystery, with ruthless and precise possessive men who leave no stone unturned. A story that I fully recommend! *Thanks to and @literallyyourspr for my ARC. I voluntarily leave my honest review*
This book starts in a way that you just know it's going to be a great read. Sentences are structured so they flow and are easy to read. Words are descriptive without being too much. It's action straight away and you really get a sense of the type of character Rafe is.
He comes across as a no nonsense type of guy. He's tough and tells it like it is. I can picture him wearing a scowl most times. He doesn't let many emotions other than indifference or anger show through. He's doing what he can to keep scum off the street.
You're engaged in the story right away and I found it hard to put down. While I found Lexi to be a little bratty, I feel this was the way she was written because that is the personality of her character.
They both did some growing in the first part of this book and I think they both will do a lot more in the next. Neither of them, it seems, find it easy to trust anyone.
Because of the lack of trust, Lexi wants to do things on her own, and hasn't told anyone what she is up to. Rafe will only speak with his inner circle about business matters and won't really speak of personal issues.
She's captured the intensity of the whole premise of this story really well and you can't help but to imagine this happening for real, because it does.
I think these 2 work well, Rafael is intense and doesn't let his guard down much. He needs someone that will call him on his BS and be there for him.
They're both trying to learn new ways in their world so it's not so chauvinistic and there is bound to be some teething problems.
I was on the edge of my seat reading the last part of this book and found myself reading faster the more my anxiety ramped up. This was my first Eva Charles book and I'm so glad to be a part of the tour for this duet, because the writing is great and I cannot wait for the next book come August because that Cliff-hanger!?
Be prepared for a cliffhanger ending! Also, I was not prepared for this grown-up Rafael. I know he's been training to take over the organization from Antonio so Rafa wasn't as playful as the young man we met in the previous trilogy. At first, I couldn't remember who Lexie was but it finally clicked. When they finally take their relationship to a different level their chemistry is off the charts! I can't wait for Wrath!
Rafael and Lexie have known each other for a long time and when he noticed that she'd become a woman, it only amplified his need to protect her. Because of their family ties, he's also managed to stay away from her until he finally gave in to the temptation, only to walk away from her.
Now she's in his club with the young daughter of a foreign prime minister surrounded by traffickers. He's furious and questioning why she's there with these dangerous criminals but manages to intervene before anything can happen. But this doesn't mean that the danger is over for Lexie so Rafael decides its best to keep close by and under his protection.
Once again they give in to their attraction, each having their own reservations about the nature of their arrangement. Their passion is explosive and they explore in ways Lexie never dreamed. She also likes that he is willing to give her more freedom than her father allows so that she doesn't feel stifled.
But when he feels that she has betrayed his trust things end just quickly as they began. Heartbroken Lexie makes arrangements to leave Porto. While Rafa is away he receives word that Lexie is in serious danger. He's calling everyone to warn them of the danger and all he can do is hope that he's not too late.
Thank you, thank you so much to the author, this book was incredible and GreysPromo for the ARC to review!.
Pride is Book One in The Sinful Empire Duet. It focuses on the story of Rafael Huntsman and Alexis Clarke. Two young yet powerful figures in their own right. Rafael has become the man ready to take the reins of his family’s port empire and Alexis seems ready to carryon with the fight fused by the female protectors of her family. Their pasts are interwoven. Their presents have collided. Will their futures ignite and conquer or explode and divide?
Rafael and Alexis “Lexie” have always been in each others lives. But a stolen moment left both yearning for more. He recognized the danger. She allowed her heart to be broken. But no matter what, Rafael will protect her and Lexie knows he will. So when their paths cross again, Rafael finds he will move heaven and earth to protect this woman. Slowly, she begins to work her way into his heart. But trust is paramount to Rafael and Lexie has broken that bond. What might have been can now never be in his world. Lexie comes from just as powerful of a world as Rafael. Her family wields power even he doesn’t always see. Therefore she is a storm that can’t be contained. Her actions are out of love and loyalty, to family, friends, and legacy.
When they find themselves immersed in a heinous trafficking situation, neither fully trusts enough to divulge all info. They both walk away, reluctant, regretful, and resentful. But losing this battle isn’t an option. But what about losing their hearts?
Rafael has so many traits from his uncle/stand in for a father, Antonio, (A Sinful Empire Triology). But make no mistake, he is his own man. Anxiously awaiting the conclusion to this couple’s story and future.
Rafael, a man driven by his brutal childhood and the knowledge that he’ll probably never find out what happened to his mother leads him to fight to protect vulnerable women. Alexis, the only child of a wealthy, dangerous man, strives to emulate the strong role models of her family which has drawn her onto the same path as Rafe in the fight against trafficking. There is history between them but despite their sizzling chemistry, family connections had left Rafe reluctant to make a move and possibly because he has a healthy fear of what her father is capable of but when Lexi gets in over her head at his club all bets are off.
I first read this author with the original Sinful Empire trilogy that precedes this book and absolutely loved them so when I heard that Eva Charles was writing more about the characters introduced in that series I couldn’t wait to read Pride. She has a style of writing that sucks you straight in with dark, suspense filled storylines and with amazing, well developed characters, all alpha heroes and strong, feisty heroines with sizzling chemistry between them and and this latest release was no exception. With tension and intrigue in a plot involving sex traffickers, and I have my suspicions about who is involved, Pride had me engrossed from the opening pages and after that cliffhanger I can’t wait for the next book.
Pride is part one of a duet, and it is a total banger. Rafael Huntsman has been working to take down a s•x trafficking ring when his little sister’s best friend Lexie shows up in his night club - with the traffickers. Little does he know that she’s working on taking down the same ring, but she may be in over her head. The two form a relationship before something pushes them apart when Rafael discovers that Lexie is in danger. He may be too late to save her.
This book is seriously exciting and I cannot wait for the second part. Rafael and Lexie have finally given into feelings and gotten together when something drives them apart, and the angst is so real it’s palpable. The characters in Pride are so strongly-written and real, even the supporting characters. Eva Charles has done an amazing job at creating a great plot. It’s fast-paced and exciting. The feelings expressed by Lexie and Rafael are so real. Their relationship is passionate and intense. I’m not sure they’ll be able to get back together without some serious work.
I’m now anxiously awaiting part two of this duet - Wrath - which is out in August. In the meantime, I highly recommend Pride - it’s a phenomenal story. Read it and let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss.
We first met Rafael and Alexis during A Sinful Empire Trilogy. Now several years later, Rafael runs Premiere with his cousin Valentina who happens to be Lexie’s best friend. They have known each other for years, their family ties run deep. One moment of intimacy changed everything between them, and not for the better. After not seeing each other for years, they find themselves mixed up in a sex trafficking ring. He wants to protect her while she continues to keep secrets about her true reasons for being at his night club. Their chemistry is undeniable and the sex is hot and steamy but pride gets in their way. His keeps him from telling Lexie how he really feels about her and hers keeps her from sharing her secrets that causes an unforgivable break of trust. That is until Lexie goes missing and Rafa vows to find her. “ I’m coming for you, Angel. I’ll find you wherever you are.” Eva gives us another cliffhanger that will have you on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to see how their story plays out. Thank you Eva for another hot, Alfa male and a strong, sassy woman who can take him!
Ugh...my heart💔 It’s been a while since a ending has left me breathless like this one. Eva Charles has a way of making you want more of her characters and the story that weaves Its way into your heart and soul. Alexis has always wanted Rafael since she was a teenage girl but she thought he saw her as a little girl. However, Rafael always knew Lexi would be his ultimate downfall...but the heart wants what the heart wants. And Rafael's heart wants Lexi but he is a stubborn man and he fights it every moment.
Rafael ‐ "but she brought something to my life that no other woman ever has. She made me want to stay, even when every instinct was telling me to run. But it doesn’t matter how she makes me feel. I can’t live with someone like her— I can’t love someone like her. I can’t."
Rafael grew up with a loss like no other, a hateful father and a mother that went missing. Now he can't stop his feelings for Lexi but he let her slip a way. Now we have to wait to see if he can make everything right again or if he will lose her forever.
4.5 stars!! We finally get Rafael’s story! And we get a grown up Lexie! This is a duet within the Sinful Empire series. Whereas we got Antonio an Daniela in the first three books, these are focused on Rafael and Lexie. They both have secrets that they don’t want the other to find out. Lexie more so than anyone. She has so many men watching out for her but it stifles her when she just wants to be like the strong women in her life, especially her grandmother. I loved seeing glimpses of Antonio and Daniela in this book. But mostly I loved getting a story from Rafael’s point of view. Those Huntsman men are yummy! Eva Charles does not disappoint with this book. It’s an intricate story with amazing characters and writing that just pulls you in and doesn’t let you go until that very last word….and it’s a cliffhanger….I can’t wait for the next book! ~Alexis💜
This story follows the trilogy of Greed, Lust and Envy. I highly recommend those stories, and it will enhance your reading of Pride.
Rafael is grown, and coming into his own. All are concerned with traffickers, especially as Alexis seems to be in their snare, as she leads them to Rafael’s Club Sirena - counting on an assist. Alexis has ditched her security team (again) but has just painted a target on her back. Rafael now gets protective.
Complicated relationships, and dangerous interactions, as a scintillating romance blooms. Business and politics combine with family and friendship to create a fascinating tableau which will capture the reader completely.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
Pride was a great continuation of the Sinful Empire Series. An excellent read like the first three books, strongly recommend you read the series in full and in order for maximum enjoyment.
This is Rafael and Alexis’ story. He is soon to become head of Huntsman and she is the over protected daughter of a dangerous Englishman. Their families are connected and they are not destined to be together but as they grown into adults they struggle to deny their desires.
This book is full of steamy chemistry, strong alpha men, even stronger women and lots of suspense. It has a great storyline that continues from earlier books and is well written. It does end in a cliff hanger that I should have been ready for but wasn’t, now on eagerly waiting for book .
The vivid descriptions of the Portuguese wine country transport you from the very first pages making you forget you only wanted to “just start this book before I make dinner”. I absolutely couldn’t put it down! I read this in one sitting!!
Alexis Clarke is a headstrong, stubborn and a sassy independent woman but Raphael has some of the same traits, headstrong, stubborn and alpha all the way. Alexis and Rafael’s chemistry just leaps off the pages and the power struggles were comical at times lending a little to the dark storyline.
While this is completely a stand alone with a cliffhanger (yes cliffhanger) you would definitely benefit from going back for more of the backstory!
Steamy, sultry, suspenseful and thoroughly Eva Charles! Strong heroines and the alpha males that (unsuccessfully!) try to tame them. Pride keeps us in Porto, but 10 years after the Sinful Empire trilogy, as a new generation takes its place in a world of intrigue. In her trademark style, Eva brings her characters to life — old and new “friends” that you come to know so well. Pride is book one of a duet and I guarantee that you’ll be waiting not so patiently for “Wrath,” the duet’s conclusion.
Well, Eva Charles has done it again!! She's pulled me into a story and gotten me through, only to leave me hanging at the end!! UGH!!! I knew it was coming and had an idea of what may happen but was still unprepared! I've been hoping for Rafael's story since readying Antonio & Daniela's. I was so happy to find out we were finally getting it! It's tense, suspenseful, and spicy!! I'm getting some of the same vibes with Rafael and Lexie as I did with Antonio and Daniela, which is a bonus for me because I loved their story SO MUCH!! Definitely, a must-read!!
Rafael and Lexie are one spicy couple! Rafael’s controlling personality didn’t phase Lexie at all and she took advantage of their brief encounter at Valentina’s wedding to shamelessly flirt with him after she had arrived in Porto. Lexie was certain she could wear him down and distract him from interrogating her about the real reason she was there. She was glad he saved her from harm the night she was at his club and she just wanted to be with the man she had dreamt about since the last time they were together. This was her chance to get to know Rafael on a more intimate level so she could make all her dreams come true.
Rafael is a sexy and powerful man who only wanted to protect Lexie from being caught up in situations that could end disastrously. He knew that she was a loose cannon who could disappear in a flash so he needed to surround her with his best people who would watch her every move. Rafael never forgot their passionate interlude at the wedding and now that she was here, he found it hard to resist her beauty and sensuality. Rafael never mixes business with pleasure, but this time he would make an exception.
Lexie dislikes taking orders and when she broke Rafael’s trust, she knew it was the end, so she decided to embark on her mission that Rafael had interrupted. She was fearless, relentless and not afraid of danger. I was worried for her safety, as was Rafael, when we were left with a spine-tingling cliffhanger. I am counting the days until their story continues!
Let me just say that this is my first book from this author. I received this book and immediately knew I would want to read the first 3 in the series afterwards! This book was one I couldn’t put down. Loved Rafe and Alexis’ connection and how they both couldn’t stop thinking about their past to fully move on without thinking of the other. Loved this couple and can’t wait to see what happens next!!! Definitely can’t wait for Wrath to come out!!!
I don't know how she makes me love and hate everyone in the book at the same time but you do... Eva Charles I absolutely love this book. Alexis has so much strength but man she makes some terrible decisions which always seems to bite her in the butt. Rafael is also strong, but man he is so in over his head with Alexis. This couple doesn't known if they are coming or going but I can't wait until book 2 to find out.
