Poseidon and Athena. Finally friends.

When the Greek and Roman gods are forced to merge into one pantheon, the unthinkable happens. House Poseidon and House Athena agree to set aside their centuries-long feud in the interest of self-preservation, betrothing their heirs. For close to twenty years, Lukas Poseidon and Daphne Athena knew they were destined to get married, somehow finding a friendship in the face of it all.

Until a year ago, when Daphne disappears without explanation. Or so Lukas thinks. As the threat against the gods escalates, Daphne and Lukas are forced to work together to keep their court happy and themselves alive. While war looms, the tension will either remind them why their families hated each other for years or make them closer than ever before.

Rory Scott can never do any wrong. She promised and she delivered. The way this has been my most anticipated read and now I’m just sad for it to be over😭 I’ve been waiting for Daphne and Lukas for a long time and now that I have them I don’t know what to do. It was such a privilege to read this before release day but now I have to internally scream all the things I want to spoil until it’s out and about in the world. I’m telling y’all if your looking for a Poseidon x Athena 🫣 retelling, with a angsty filled romance than I HIGHLY recommend you add this to ur tbr or ur DaniaPhobic🙅🏻‍♀️

Tropes:
-Childhood friends to lovers
-arranged marriage
-second chance
-she falls first he falls harder

The Gods Only Know is a second chance, childhood friends to lovers, arranged marriage, fantasy romance and it is the second book in the Tempt The Gods series with an ongoing overall plot.

If all those tropes don't get you, keep reading.

I was looking forward to this book for so long and I literally put it off because I KNEW I was going to LOVE it. Once I started, I could NOT stop. This is a fast paced, page turning romance. It's one of those books that have you screaming for no reason in the best way. I was teeheeing my way through this entire book, I literally could not breathe.

Listen, I am a SUCKER for an angsty second chance romance and when it's the hero (Lukas) who's betrayed, all the more intriguing! Not only that but Lukas is a SIMP for the heroine (Daphne) and we love to see it. I loved that we got both Lukas and Daphne's POV. I loved seeing each of the characters inner torture and how much they both were PINING for the other. The way that Rory builds tension is absolutely immaculate.

Let me get started on the SEXUAL TENSION. Ya'll Lukas has a mouth on him and everything he says should be added to my personal bible. Every scene leading up to the first sex scene was absolutely amazing and worth the wait. It was worth everything and more. Definitely a slow burn done perfectly!

I did understand the reason why Daphne had left and it made sense to me and I didn't mind it at all. With that said, there is no third act breakup! *chefs kiss* The communication (when it needed to happen) was done so well. The setting and the underwater vibes of this book was also so cool and made my experience even greater.

I believe in these characters and their romance. They are literal soulmates and I miss them already. Definitely a MUST READ. There are SO many things I loved about this book but we will be here forever.

Go check out my reading vlog on youtube for all my in depth thoughts! + all my teeheeing <3

Do you have to read the first book to understand the second book? No BUT the first book is equally as perfect so go read that too!

THIS STORY! ‘The Gods Only Know’ is a Poseidon and Athena retelling of sorts with some major twists! I’ll start off by saying that childhood friends (to kind of enemies) to lovers isn’t my normal trope that I go for but oh my god, this was amazing. You meet Lukas in ‘For the Love of the Gods’ (first book in the series) and you hear about Daphne from the other characters. During FTLOTG, Lukas is very obviously heartbroken and we find out that Daphne has been gone for a year. She left without telling anyone (that we know of) and no one knows where she is. Due to some… chaos in FTLOTG, Daphne is forced to come back and face her past. It’s very obvious that these two love each other. They’re both hurt and dealing with a lot internally and communicating isn’t their strong suit anymore. They both feel like they aren’t able to talk the way they used to. Neither of them are saying what’s going on in their heads. They’re both spiraling on their own. The tension in this book is… high. But the moments… they’re so beautiful. The love they have for each other is so potent and overwhelming but they’re both so scared to get hurt again or lose their friendship that they push it down and let themselves suffer in silence. One of my favorite things about this story was all the ocean imagery that Rory incorporated into the story. It really gave the story something special! Rory has once again blown me away with this story and I CANNOT wait for book 3.

Some people do things really awful and some other people do things so well you want to kiss them on the mouth because they’re just THAT good.

One thing about Rory is she is going to write mythology romance and she’s going to EAT. IT. UP.

Daphne and Lukas were introduced in her first book (For The Love Of The Gods). While we get a mention of Daphne having left Lukas for a year, this book dived head first into finding out why, but not without lots of angst and sexual tension.

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again, Rory can write the hell out of smut. It always makes sense, it’s never cringey, and it’s always sooooo worth the wait.
You can expect slow burn, arranged marriage, and the miscommunication trope in this book, but all of it was written beautifully.

While the external conflicts from book one are still there, I was very glad to see how well it flowed into the plot at a steady and understandable pace, while still letting us bask in the internal struggled from Lukas and Daphne.

Dual POV’s are always a winner for me, especially during a miscommunication trope book like this. I am begging y’all to start this series; you won’t regret it.

I’m realizing friends to lovers is just not my favorite trope sometimes! I think I find myself getting impatient that they waited so long or impatient that the other doesn’t see it. I thought the book was well done, the writing and the settings and the plot, and I loved the characters as well. I think I just got bored more with the romance and felt myself being bugged by it when there was miscommunication. Lukas and Daphne as characters though…I loved them a lot. I thought they were both sexy and unstoppable.

I loved how the world opened up more in this book and seeing the politics of the gods take shape. Plus, the overarching conflict gets a bunch more attention, which I'm here for!

While I loved the characters, I enjoyed this one a little less because it relied heavily on the miscommunication trope that is not my favorite. However, the best thing about series like this is how every couple/book is different, and I'm sure the next one will be a five-star for me!

I was able to listen to the audiobook and LOVED Sara Brodt narration. She always gives the characters the right emphasis and makes me enjoy the book even more! Such a fun series!

GAHHHH yes!

As someone who didn't read the first one - this book made me want to read the first one!

Between their love story and friendship - I couldn't handle it!

This author truly took Greek mythology into their own hands and did such a great job with this story and the imagery!

• ARC review🫧⚓️🪸🐚

• Actual rating: 3.5/5⭐️

• All hail the Greek Gods and Goddesses once again🛐! Lord Lukas Poseidon… UGH HOW I LOVE YOU🗣️!!

• The Gods Only Know follows the story of Lord Lukas Poseidon and Lady Daphne Athena. Tropes within this book are ⚠️MISCOMMUNICATION⚠️, fantasy romance, Greek mythology, fated mates, arranged marriage, forced proximity, childhood friends to enemies to lovers, second chance romance, one bed trope, age gap romance, marriage of convenience, etc🌊.

• My bestie pop, Rory girl🫶🏽, hooked me up again with an ARC from the series and I couldn’t be more honored🩵.

• We met Lukas in the last book, For The Love Of The Gods aka Rosey Posey and Daddy Dom’s story, and that man was a hot mess because the love his life Ms Dummy Daphne girl ran away from him with no mention as to why… bffr🙄.

• Lukas is still basically a hot mess in the beginning of this book but pulls himself together because he’s ordered Daphne to come back since their catches (of fish?¿) have been extremely low and he’s literally the God of the Sea or whatever so like that’s bad look on him and his house which she’s apart of because of the marriage, right? So ms girl comes back and shit hits the fan and literally nothing goes right for them until the end😂.

• Lukas and Daphne’s love was so beautiful in the beginning when we saw the flashbacks of them as children, I was BAWLING 😭! But as they got older and Daphne got dummer, literally mama girl was making mistakes LEFT AND RIGHT … AND SHE’S THE GODDESS OF WISDOM😫, my patience ran thin…

• But, with that being said and although I was in Rory’s DM’s yelling and screaming at her about wanting to know what the hell Daphne’s reason was for running away, I feel like the “mystery”/suspense of it wasn’t too bad to endure, I’m just hella impatient😂.

• I’m not gonna lie, I was highly disappointed to know the reason for Daphne leaving was over her mishearing something Lukas said to someone else because be so FORREAL girl🫨. Miscommunication is 100% the biggest trope within this story because that’s literally the reasoning for Daphne’s departure. And I don’t know about y’all, but I HATE the miscommunication trope purely off the basis that it’s STUPID! Like why wouldn’t you go and talk to the person and clear the air??? (Says the girl that literally runs away from her problems and shuts her emotions off but this isn’t ABOUT ME!) 🙄.

• Obviously in the end, they get their happy ending because Ms Rory girl isn’t THAT demented (or so she portrays🫣), but I personally feel like Lukas loved Daphne WAY MORE than she loved him… Lukas’ love for Daphne was so palpable and obvious yet ms self sabotage and overthinker over here SWORE on holy grounds that he was only with her because of duty and honor… again, Dummy Daphne🫤.

• Daphne did have a lot of layers to her and a lot of baggage/insecurities so I understand why she acted the way she did and retreated the way she did but like honestly, it was pathetic and annoying - in my opinion - of her to play victim when she came back to the palace because like THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF YOU MS GIRL! Like no one told you to play Houdini and disappear instead of opening your mouth and COMMUNICATING🧍🏽‍♀️!

• Anywhosies, all in all, even though I didn’t appreciate Daphne and her stupidity the entire book, Rory’s writing is incredible, different and substantial📝! Her world building continues to improve greatly including the depths in which she gives her characters🩵. I will always recommend this series no matter what and will continue to support my girly girl Rory because she’s a beautiful human and her storytelling is scrumptious 🫦! Literally cannot wait for Adrian and Reyna❤️‍🔥!

*might be spoilery*

i am always weary going into second chance books, but this was done right.

no info on luke’s past but he didn’t “pull his head out of his ass” about daphne until four years before the start of the book so even though they have been engaged since he was 10 and she was 6 they were both with others. neither of their past is mentioned actually except for the fact that she’s never given a bj before and Lukas grumbled “at least there’s that” but nothing was explained further and i wish it was 😂 but that’s me being greedy because i loved this. It was mentioned that girls would flirt OPENLY with Luke IN FRONT of Daphne because they thought he would get tired of her since their lines hate each other but he would always shut them down fast and make it very clear that Daph was his (so i have hope that he wasn’t a whore before he opened his eyes especially since she’s been in love with him her entire life)

Lukas was a mess (as seen in the first book) but he was REALLY a disaster without Daphne. Miscommunication isn’t a favorite trope of mine and EVERYTHING about them is miscommunication. especially because they both have loved each other but we’re afraid to say anything since they both thought the other was just doing their duty and didn’t really want to be engaged 🙄🙄🙄🙄 Luke really needed to take charge of the situation because in Daphne’s head he’s just playing games with her ngl i ate that shit up though. 😂

one of the things that bothered me was that on the night of “The Incident” that caused Daphne to leave, Daphne was the one that made the first move. And she blew Luke and got nothing in return because they were interrupted 😂😂😂 he made a promise to “fuck her so hard” but they were interrupted and then she ran away so my girl was left hanging for over a year because there weren’t any spicy times in this book until like 80%….talk about slow burn 😂

we did get to see a little of Rose and Dom and i just love them so much. Rose was telling Daphne about how Dom hates bell peppers now because someone put a spider in Rose’s bag (in their book) and it scared her and he doesn’t like for her to be upset so now he has a personal vendetta against them 😂

the bonus epilogue 🥹 i loved everything about it 😭😭😭

Adrian and Reyna! just the descriptions of Adrian hiding behind things when he’s basically the ruler of the Greek and Roman Gods is just hilarious and i can’t wait for their book.

I am really enjoying this series and this book got me out of my slump.

Honestly I really like this book, but the 1st is still my favorite lol.

This book was really good and the writing was amazing but I couldn’t stand the fact that all of this happened because of ONE misunderstanding and statement taken out of context yknow? If it was more miscommunication throughout the book or anything like that It would have been okay but it wasn’t. it was seriously ONE phrase, ONE half conversation the FMC east-dropped on taken out of context that caused all of this shit.
This book wasn’t the miscommunication trope in my opinion it was COMPLETE LACK OF COMMUNICATION. Because they actually did not talk to each other.

I couldn’t stand that the FMC kept the reason she left so under wraps like it was some huge devastating thing just for it to be so stupid it was laughable. Idk man I understand the FMCs feelings and I get it was less about HIM and more about HER but I really couldn’t side with her. It felt unnecessary when she HAD to marry him anyways? like she knew she was going to marry him for basically her entire life and it felt like she could put as much distance between them as she wanted but the fates wanted them married so she would have had to come back EVENTUALLY. If she hadn’t the balance would literally fall apart?! so to me it felt pointless. Especially when you weigh the options she had, jt was like stay and have your best friend even if you weren’t together or leave and come back to someone who hates you for abandoning them ?!?!

Plus I really sympathized with the MMC and when he said HIS love would have never allowed him to leave because yeah he’s right, she claimed to love him so much but didn’t really do much about it? she was too passive of a character for me. And the worst part about it was she was passive when it was convenient? Like she could fight and bind people who tired to kill her but couldn’t talk about her feelings ? I get emotional vulnerability but like come on?!

I did really enjoy that the characters had really only loved each other even after all that time and it had always been a kinda of at first sight type thing for them especially since they are SEEMINGLY each others first everything? one would assume they were since they were engaged since they were like 6?! idk to me they were idc. But I really enjoyed that.

I just love the characters in this series! The miscommunication trope isn’t always my favorite, so I didn’t love it as much as the first in the series. But the slow burn was so good! And I love the cliffhanger ending that makes me so excited for the next book.

After reading For the Love of Gods, I have been counting the days until we get Daphne and Lukas’ story and luckily I made it into The Gods Only Know ARC team!

FTLOTG shows us Lukas trying to manage during Daphne’s year long disappearance often seeking out Rose to let out his stress (pissing off Dominic for the majority of these “sessions”). In TGOK, we finally get the answers why Daphne left and so much more.

I loved the second book as much as I did the first one, and I kid you not when I tell you I was not able to put it down since I started reading it. Rory’s writing must be ambrosia-infused or something. Each chapter, down to each line in word will hook you in making you alternate between getting too hot from the tension between Daphne and Lukas, fawning over how much these two love each other, screaming over the angst of it all and ofcourse dying out of curiosity in trying to figure out the ongoing conspiracy against the gods.

I am honestly not much of a fan of the miscommunication trope, and admittedly wanted to whack both of them up the head and scream at them to just sit down and talk things out. But Rory has written it out so well and was able to execute that trope out well into the whole plot of the book to capture the reader's interest. On the other hand can I just say that I am a sucker for childhood friends turned lovers, the small snippets of young Daphne and young Luke just about melted my heart.

And of course I just have to mention my loves Rose and Dominic, I teared up reading about them still happily and madly in love with each other. Lastly, I don’t wanna spoil anyone but the epilogue made me cry so much, I love seeing both couples happy and all wrapped in love.

The Gods Only Know is certainly one of my best reads this year. It's up very high on the list along with For the Love of the Gods, and they will probably soon be joined by the third book. I cannot wait for Adrian’s book!

A MUST READ if you want a unique, spicy fantasy romance that you'll devour in 48 hours or less.

4.5 stars

Book 2 of the Tempt the Gods series - Greek/Roman gods with a modern twist - a continued plot with the same cast of characters with each book focusing on a different couple. Book 1 (For the Love of the Gods) follows Rose Hades and Dominic Pluto in an enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience, brother's best friend, slow burn romance. Mix in Greek/Roman mythology, powers, secrets, and plot twists and you have the perfect fantasy romance. Rose and Dominic's friends, Daphne Athena and Lukas Poseidon make an appearance in book 1 before their story takes the stage in book 2, The Gods Only Know.

Lukas and Daphne have had an arranged marriage in place since they were children. Growing up best friends, they have all the same interests and seem to even have the same thoughts. As they get older, they think it could be more than friendship - until *something* spooks Daphne and she disappears without a word to anyone for an entire year. After the events surrounding Rose in For the Love of the Gods, Daphne is forced to return and face her issues. Rory takes us on a wild ride while Daphne and Lukas are finally forced to confront years upon years of built up tension and denial. This is a SPICY friends to lovers with betrayal, miscommunication, "she falls first, he falls harder" and SO MUCH SLOW BURN TENSION. Of course we also have a mysterious plot and a new areas of this intriguing fantasy world to explore. Rory does a fantastic job of capturing her readers page one and making the entire experience enjoyable with not a single moment of boredom. This series has easily become a favorite of mine and I cannot wait until she releases book 3 in January!

Do yourself a favor and read this series!!!

✨The Gods Only Know: ARC Review✨

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5

My thoughts:

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Rory writes 𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒄.

Full transparency, I don’t typically like friends to lovers or second chance romance BUT this story managed to grab ahold of me and hang on for dear life!

TGOK is book 2 in the 𝑻𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒐𝒅𝒔 series and we get to meet Daphne Athena and see more of Lukas Poseidon (he was very present in book 1).

Daphne, our Athena descended FMC, is so painfully relatable. My heart ached for her need to be “perfect” and where that need came from. The desire to be needed and useful and never “too much” was something I could empathize with and made me like this smart little cookie even more.

Lukas, our Poseidon descended MMC, was the perfect mixture of gruff, angsty, and obsessed himbo. Like was he feeling hurt by our FMC? Oh yeah. But did that realllllly stop him from melting our hearts when his POV rolled around? Hell no, my man might’ve said some not so nice things out of anger but his mind was allllll about Daph no matter how much he didn’t want it to be 😮‍💨

Instead of “good girl”, we get “smart girl” and I don’t know about you, but my burnt-out former gifted kid heart realllly digs “smart girl” 😮‍💨

The overarching plot and conspiracy in this series is so intriguing and kept me guess even when I thought I had parts figured out! I can’t wait to see how everything pans out in book 3 🙌🏻

This was such a fun second book in the Tempt the Gods series by Rory L Scott. I loved the twist that she gave the Poseidon and Athena myth and I devoured the friends to enemies to lovers troupe.

Lukas and Daphne grew up together knowing they were going to get married, but the pressure built and Daphne left suddenly (which we learn about in book 1). The Gods Only Know pick up when Daphne finally returns home after a year of being gone. Both her and Lukas are now faced with what happened and how to rebuild the bridge that was broken when Daphne left.

This is a slow burn romance that pays off in the end. Both Daphne and Lukas have to not only work things out together but also by themselves, because the main conflict between them is miscommunication. Usually I am not a fan on miscommunication, but I think that they way Scott handled it was in a way that made sense. I do with that Daphne would have gotten out of her head sooner, but it still all worked out in the end.

The overall plot of who is trying to take down the gods is continuing to develop and mature (we get a suspect after this book) AND we get introduced to out next couple...and please Adrian is gonna have his hands full.

Overall another fun book this series and it made me excited for the next one!

*4.3

Daphne and Luke were so fucking cute! I didn't know that I needed a Poseidon and Athena book in my life until I picked this book up.

This book had an insane amount of angst in it. And throughout it all, I am glad that my babies made it out all right.

One major thing that I feel like I do need to mention is that this book does have the miscommunication trope in it. Personally, I am not a big fan of said trope so reading it and knowing that the miscommunication took place for a whole year had me feeling :/

Like I love Daphne but babes if you would have talked to him before leaving things would have been wayyyyyy different. And also knowing that she's Athena, this is so funny because she's supposed to be the goddess of wisdom.

Luke is so hot btw, meeting his character in book 1 I was like he's so fine but now having read his book i can confirm that he is HOT.

Also, this book has the cutest horses ever, August, June and July are my children, and I would die for them.

Shout out to the OG's Rose and Dominic, I loved seeing them in this book and loved how in love with each other they are with each other through a different perspective.

I cannot wait for Adrien's book though; I am a Jupiter girly through and fucking through. I just know that Rory is gonna absolutely DEVOURE his book.

Scott an write, ok? Let’s make that very clear.
I spent most of For the Love of the Gods dying to know where in the ever loving heck Daphne was. Who could help but feel bad for Lukas? We needed answers!

I’ll admit that I was a little surprised how quickly Daphne appeared. I had it in my mind it would take a journey and a struggle to find her. But let me tellllll you, I still got the conflict and drama I wanted! Daphne and Lukas go together like peanut butter and jelly but also mix about as well as oil and water. A really interesting dynamic with them. It’s was obvious they were meant to be, to everyone but them ofc.

With all the emotions running high and the struggle, the story line and build of the plot was strong and kept me invested. I really enjoy the Greek mythology and how all the gods come into play.

I’m really honored to have gotten an ARC of this. ❤️

“What does my power feel like?” I [daphne] asked quietly. “Like you,” he said, voice hoarse. “Like your head falling back on my shoulder. Like your laugh. Like seeing you after a long day and waking up next to you in the morning.”

slight spoilers ahead - caution ⚠️

The second book in the Tempt the Gods Series by Rory L. Scott! This is a retelling of Poseidon and Athena in a world of Greek/Roman mythology. These two childhood friends Lukas and Daphne are put into an arranged marriage at a young age. As they grow up together feelings develop into something more until one day, Daphne disappears without a word. Read the book to find out why she disappeared and if she will return to Lukas and rule the sea together like they were fated to be.

Miss Rory NAILED the miscommunication trope! I have not read a book with a better execution of this specific trope. I loved the banter, THE LONGING for each other in secrecy, the slow-burn and tension between these two characters! I am excited for Adrian’s story next and am excited to say that Rory has reignited my love for Greek/Roman mythology ❤️😊

A MUST READ for lovers of mythology and just great writing! Four star read for me as my favorite couple is still Dom and Rose from Book 1, can’t wait for the next book soon!!!!

idk about the rest of you but suddenly I am the biggest friends to lovers fan idk idk!

I wasn’t super impressed with the first book in the series, and I’m so mad about it because where could you possibly go wrong with a pluto and hades love story? unfortunately I just didn’t mesh well with it and I was about ten seconds away from abandoning the series all together but the brief mentions of luke and daphne’s relationship had me curious.

I am SO glad I chose to continue, as daphne and luke might possibly be one of my favorite friends to lovers couples that I’ve read in a long time. daphne and luke have had a marriage arrangement since they were children, did super cute little friend things and then when daphne came back from university, luke began to fall in love with her. but because this is the most miscommunication-y book I have EVER read, things go sour, and daphne and luke secretly pine after each other from afar.

if you’re anything like me and the idea of miscommunication makes you want to light yourself on fire, let me be the first to tell you that this one is done WELL. yes, it’s still irritating because all miscommunication is but there’s so much angst, a lot of second chance romance going on and some seriously enticing pining. both characters were likable and despite my indifference towards the first book, I absolutely adored this one. it’s been so hard recently to find a solid romance based on/inspired by greek mythology because so many of them read like very amateur fanfiction with either shoddy writing or fast paced love stories, so this was a really nice surprise.

This is the second book in an interconnected series, you need to read For The Love of The Gods first and let me tell you… Dominic & Rose’s story is *chefs kiss*, enemies to lovers, need I say more!

This book follows Lukas Poseidon & Daphne Athena, who have been in an arranged marriage since they were children. All seemed to be fine until Daph disappeared for a year with no warning or explanation as to why. When she finally returns Lukas is determined to find out why.

The tension and angst between these two is unbelievable. The spice 😮‍💨 i could not get enough! I ate it up and finished this book so fast. Rory’s writing is beautiful, if she writes it you better believe I am going to read it! I feel so honored to have been asked to ARC read this & Rory has quickly made it on my list of authors that I will automatically buy books from!

Lukas and Daphne!

Omg Lukas and Daphne! The way Rory L. Scott reached into my chest and ripped out my heart MULTIPLE times in “The Gods Only Know” is borderline sadistic. So it’s a good thing I’m a masochist. The tension between Lukas and Daphne created a slow burn so hot I thought I might combust. Thankfully it paid off. Many times. In many places. Rory has a gift for emotional writing & makes you not only understand the characters motivations, but feel them too. It’s a truly immersive experience. I loved Daphne’s whip smart character, & her fear of always feeling needed for her usefulness but never truly wanted for just herself hit home in a bone-deep way. Without getting into spoilers, watching how Lukas navigates that deep-seated fear in Daphne was very cathartic. Beyond all that, the political intrigue running throughout book 1 only intensifies in book 2. We may have pinpointed the villain, but mystery is far from over. I am SO excited to continue the story in the next book, “For the Gods’ Sake!”

Bridgerton meets Greek mythology in a slow burn romance with magic.
Part 2

This is the second part of a series but can be read without reading the prior book.

The setting is in a made-up world with different courts and rulers named after Greek and Roman Gods. The author takes elements of both mythologies and playfully integrates them into her world building, making this a beautiful, unique setting for an even better love story.

Rory writes characters you can only fall in love with. This book warms my heart. It's beautifully written with a lot of dialogue, which makes it even easier to identify with characters. It's not a book with a completely unexpected storyline but more of a comfort read. The love story part of the book is just everything. While the world building is rather simple, it still gives the book a unique setting and makes you excited about book three coming soon.

I enjoyed every page of this book since it's easy to follow and a simple yet incredible read.

I absolutely love this world and I do enjoy these characters, but I really hate when the biggest conflicts are easily fixed/never would have happened if the characters had one single conversation. I get that miscommunication can happen and not everyone is level headed enough in the moment to calm down and talk about it, but I just feel like this one did not warrant the reaction it got.

As smart as Daphne is, she’s an idiot when it comes to her feelings -and love in general.

It really just made me want to ring these characters necks. BUT I really love the mutual pining, along with everyone but them knowing how they feel (always a fun time when they find out).

The ending felt a tad rushed and o wish we got more of Daphne and Lukas as a couple, hopefully we’ll see a bit more of them together in the next book!

I really enjoyed the story of Daphne and Lukas! I loved the tension between them and also liked having dual POVs between the main characters. Having multiple POVs and then reading how they felt about each other but would act differently had me screaming!

At first, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Daphne, especially with how she was extremely negative about Rose and Dominic’s relationship. Her attitude at the beginning just caused me to feel annoyed but as the story progressed, I loved her development! Side note: I’m super happy about Rose and Dominic making appearances throughout the book. I LOVE them.

I did struggle a bit with the setting and picturing it but the character descriptions were good, and found it easy to imagine them!

Thank you to the author for providing me with a digital copy! ❤️

Absolutely fabulous! I adore Daphne and Lukas!

This is a really well-done Friends to lovers/second chance trope. I also love how we are getting to see more of the story unfold on what the bigger problem is against the gods in this world.

I always get really frustrated with miscommunication tropes, and I did get a little irked with this one (not against the story, but come on...like Rose said, TALK TO HIM!). I wish they could have gotten on the same page a little earlier and then they could have explored the problem together from that angle.

That being said....I love how much they love each other, even if they don't think the other one feels the same.

I'm getting so intrigued to hear Adrian's side of the story and I love getting the sneak peaks into Persy.

Overall: Recommend!

Lukas Poseidon and Daphne Athena make a very cute couple—even if they both would tense their shoulders if you said that to their faces.

The life long best friends turned betrothed are divided by Daphne when she runs away unexpectedly, months before their wedding. The tension between the two is tangible when Daphne is forced back to court, and the pair quickly find themselves entangled in more trouble than just their estranged engagement.

As always, Sara Brodt nailed the narration. She is one of my favorite narrators, and for good reason. Each book she voices comes to life in such a unique and captivating way. I love listening to her read me stories.

The Gods Only Know is book two in Rory L. Scott’s Tempt the Gods series. It continues the modern myth-inspired romance saga with the story of Lukas (the Poseidon parallel) and Daphne (Athena).

Book one (For the Love of the Gods) was playful, chaotic, and chemistry-driven, this sequel slows down and digs deeper. It’s less about external conflict and more about emotional healing, regrets, and growth.

And yes—there’s angst. So much beautiful, angst. Seriously, this might have been the slowest burn I've ever endured in the absolute best way.

Sequels can be a poisoned chalice, never living up to the first. But this book was the perfect continuation from Rose and Dominic's story. Lukas and Daphne's second chance romance is so full of heartache and yearning, from two people betrothed since childhood and never fully sure where duty ended and love began. The narration is beautiful and captures each character so well.

I can't wait for book 3!

It's probably one of my new favorite greek mythology retellings!

I was caught up in the tension and plot of this book. I was surprised it kept me turning pages even though it has my least favorite trope of miscommunication, lol. But the writing style was flawless and really pulled you into the plot and characters! It is a slow burn childhood friends-to-lovers. 🔥
