Nathan and Misty snuck out for some fast food sustenance late at night....and got caught by Misty's dad. Totally grounded. So then they decided to run away. Who knew that the zombie apocalypse would hit their town while they were hiding in the woods overnight? And who would have guessed that lemon juice kills the undead? It's Nathan, Misty, and a super geeky kid against the zombie horde. Just hope they don't run out of lemonade!
This book is a fun read! Cute story....reminds me a lot of the Goosebumps books my sons always liked to read when they were in elementary school.
Also included are two creepy short stories: Hobgoblin Horror and Bloody Marcy. I read Hobgoblin Horror in MJA Ware's other book, No Way Out. It's a great story told to two kids who visit an elderly vet in a nursing home. Bloody Marcy is a very short, but totally eerie story about a game of Bloody Mary gone wrong. There is also a preview of another book, Zack and Zoey's Alien Apocalypse.
The cover art for this book is awesome! I wanted to read it right away when I saw a girl shooting a zombie with a super soaker. What's not to love? :) Who needs a crossbow or a baseball bat when you can have a super soaker filled with lethal zombie juice? :)
Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb is available for free download from the authors website (http://www.mjaware.com/books.shtml) and also on Amazon.
**I downloaded this book for free. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. No zombies were harmed in the writing of this review.**
Note: This book was sent to me by the author for an honest review. Because this book is a Children's book about 14 year olds, I decided to have my 14 year old son read it and give me his review. The things he says and suggests are his opinion and not mine. LOLZ! That means if you let your 7 year old child read this book and it gives them nightmares... just remember - Mickey said it was ok... not me ;)
A Review from a fourteen year old It was about a zombie outbreak that infects the tri-county area that Nate and Misty live in.
Nate and Misty sneak out the house to go camping and they see the mayor and he's apparently infected and they don't know it. And the mayor is about to bite Misty and Nate stops him but the mayor bites Nate in the leg but doesn't get infected which in my opinion was kind of stupid.
They go back to town to see if it's evacuated then they go to all these other places and then the go to Nate's house to get the Mustang that his Dad has and then they drive to a strip mall for supplies and then they go to Wal-mart.
While in Wal-mart they stay there for a couple days and find Cali who is a boy which is weird, and he joins them and tells them that the government has plans to bomb the place.
Mickey's Thoughts
How did you like the story? There were no funny parts at all? I did like it but it would have been better with some funny parts. Younger people might think that it is funny but I didn't think so.
How old of a kid do you think you have to be to enjoy this book? I would think at least a seven year old.
Were there any cuss words? No cuss words, they say things like HOLY COW and stuff.
Does the cover make sense to the story? They were never trapped at a cemetery. And Cali isn't there and you only see a bit of Nate. THey only went to a cemetery once to get a fire truck.
Was there any romance? Some kissing on a cheek and crying on a shoulder
Do you think that the author was able to depict the average 14 year old? I felt the characters were more dumb than a 14 year old, at times. I think they acted more like 6th graders.
Do you think this book is more of a boy book or a girl book? More boy but it could be for both.
If a sequel is written would you read it? Maybe
Were there any scary parts? No, I thought it would be scarier but it wasn't very detailed at all when 'scary' parts happened.
Do you think this kind of zombie outbreak could happen in real life? No, this kind of stuff only happens in stories.
Would you watch a cartoon about this book? Probably not a cartoon series but I would a movie.
Explain what a super zombie juice mega bomb is. It's the thing that kills the zombies... like big time. If I told you then that would wreck the book.
Book Title: "Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb” Author: M.J.A. Ware Published By: CG Press, LTD Age Recommended: 10+ Reviewed By: Kitty Bullard Raven Rating: 5
Review: I absolutely, 100%, loved this book! I am the type of person that reads a book cover to cover, I mean credits, disclaimers, excerpts from previous or novels yet to come, even the bar codes. There is a point to the previous ramble which I am about to make, that point is… you get an immediate sense of the authors fun-loving comedic side as soon as you see this phrase below the publishing acknowledgements, “If you purchased this book without a cover, you should be aware that you probably paid too much.”
Mr. Ware, I have to disagree with you. No matter how cute and funny that was, this book is well worth any amount paid for it, for several reasons. First and foremost it is awesome zombie loving fun! Next it is geared toward kids and finally it is an extremely funny read due to the fact that lemon juice could have the power to deliver zombies into the hands of true death.
I found this a wonderful new take on ways to neutralize the undead nuisances and had a wonderful time reading and visualizing Misty, Nathan, and Kali’s adventure. Do they make it out alive? Well you, dear reader, will just have to read this adorable, little gem of a book yourself and find out. As for you Mr. Ware, I do hope you intend to write more and I have every intention of reading the graphic novel version! 5 Ravens flying high!
Want to save the world? Want to eradicate the living dead? There is a way to do it if you just have the tools, or in this case ingredients. head on over to your closest grocer and pick up everything you need to survive the zombie apocalypse.
Lemons.
Yes. You read that right.
Lemons.
You know how the old saying goes, when life hands you lemons, you squirt them at zombies. Wait, no, well, it was something like that.
Misty and Nate run away for a camping trip after being told they can no longer hang out with each other. On their return, their small town is a ghost town. There was no one to be found anywhere, oh - if only it could have stayed a ghost town, that may have been easier to deal with. Misty and Nate are faced with an adventure that no kid should have to go through alone. A fight for their lives ensues and what happens to them will really surprise you.
Finally a zombie book for the YA audience that has the perfect balance of creepy but not too much for the younger reader. It has great horror elements in the plot and loads of zombie action. This book is a great way to let your budding horror fan indulge while knowing the content will not be too "adult".
This book will catch your attention from the beginning and make you want to keep reading until the very end. Adults and YA audiences alike will have something they can enjoy with this book. The cover is amazing, the characters are vividly depicted, the heroism in the book is admirable, and the zombies are scary. This is coming out perfectly timed for the Halloween season, and I will be passing this onto my two daughters for their Halloween reading.
This is a free novella e-book from Amazon. Oh how I love 💘 those free books 📚!I
This is a book about three children caught in an zombie apocalypse in their home town. They do all kinds of strange things to stop the zombies. In the end they are successful at the cost of one of their lives.
I would recommend this novella and bonus feature and author to the inter child inside most of us. 2023 😀👒👻🚗🔥
The first thought that comes to mind when I think of this book is that it is insane. I mean this, of course, in a good way - the book is so insane that I don't know exactly how to think or feel about it, though I will try to express myself properly in this review.
When the author contacted me about reviewing the book, he sent me a sample chapter and I was immediately hooked by the writing style. There's a nice flow and rhythm to the words, plus an air of sarcasm and subtle wit about the characters and their dialogue. This method of telling the story carried on throughout the entire novel, which definitely catered to my personal taste for irony, sarcasm and wittiness.
I thought that the premise of the tale was familiar, what with the whole puny band of humans versus an immeasurable number of zombies in an abandoned town (and you better believe it reminded me of Zombieland!). But what cracked me up was the fact that lemonade neutralized the zombie threat. There's interesting logic behind this in the novel, but the idea of squirting lemonade at zombies to get rid of them just amused me to no end (and at least now, I have that to fall back on should a zombie invasion occur).
The characters were interesting in their own way, though I didn't particular care for either Nathan or Misty. I felt like they could have been better developed on the whole, though we do learn a lot about them through their attempts to neutralize the zombie threat.
Overall, this was a quick, funny read, filled with hilarious moments, underlying sarcasm and the thrill of reading about an incredibly extreme situation. It's definitely one entertaining read!
I'm a big fan of the zombie genre, so I jumped to the chance when MJA Ware offered the book Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb to me for review as I thought it will be a great story to get me in the mood for Halloween.
Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb is targeted at all ages so it is not as horrific as The Walking Dead but has enough gory scenes to satisfy zombie fans.
It may sound strange at first to hear that lemon juice can be used to destroy zombies but the story does offer a surprisingly plausible explanation for it. Well at least more plausible than the dead rising from their graves.
I enjoy the characters a lot and come to love the three of them. Nathan maybe a little clueless but is handy in a fight with zombies. Misty, the girl next door is the only one who can keep Nathan in line. Their relationship is typical of childhood friends and if the story isn't targeted at the younger audience, I think they might have ended more than just friends after their life changing experiences together. Last but not least is the brain behind it all, Kali, who never gave up no matter what situation they were in.
Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb is a quick fun read filled with humour and zombie slaying action that I'm sure all ages will enjoy.
I was a little leary of reading a book about zombies, but I thought it might be a fun read and something both my twelve-year-old son and I could read. I thought I read a review that called this YA, but I would say it somewhere between YA and MG. The grossness factor was more than enough to keep my son entertained, but not so much it turned me off. The adventure was suspensefull and page turning, mixed with a great deal of humor. My favorite line was when Nate suggests Misty will have plenty of clothes to wear at the Walmart, and she responds, "I wouldn't be caught dead in anything from Walmart!" It was like reading a book about my sixteen-year-old daughter! There were other funny lines here and there that made me think the author must have tweens in his house or know some pretty well. The banter between the main characters, Nate and Misty, is so spot on, I laughed out loud on several ocassions. This a fun, quick read that satisfied both myself and my son. Plus, you get two short stories at the end. The one about the hobgoblin still has stressing over the cliffhanger ending.
Hilarious books. Super cool ending. Last line was awesome.
Rylie, Age 10
Now a word from Rylie's mom:
I have been scouring the interenet, looking for good books for my daughter to read. Reading is something I want to incourage in my children but sometimes finding something that she likes is a little difficult. When I first showed this to her, her first reaction was... "Zombies." And she made a face. But I convinced her to give it a try and she read it in just a few days. She even brought the kindle in the car with her in the mornings, so she could read on the way to school. After homework the first thing she would ask was, can I read. Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb is a fun read, not just for kids but for adults too. I would recommend this for any zombie loving parent to give to their child.
This was a fun read! The three characters that are the important characters in this story -- Nate, Misty and Kali -- are believable as young children caught up in a zombie contamination. They accidentally discover that lemonade will kill the zombies, and later even guess why it works.
The novel has some gore, some tense scenes and lots of humor tying it all together.
There's a bit of a coming-of-age element as an additional theme. Nate, the main character, attempts to negotiate through the difficulties of a new type of relationship with Misty, who had been a very close friend in their younger years.
All around, entertaining, a real page turner, and amusing.
I read a book in Kindle form and it didn't kill me.
Now does that mean I'm giving up my hard copies, hell no, but if there's a book I'm not totally sold on yet then I'll go for the cheapest version.
"Sorry. I, um, didn't think about what I was saying. I was sorta speechless." "Then you should keep your mouth shut, Nate."
In the beginning I laughed because I was reading about two teenagers and teenagers can be funny (sometimes, depends on the people).
Anyways, Nate ( the point of view we get to read about) is trying to sneak in his best friend Misty one night but it doesn't go as planned. Which causes them to run away for their camping trip that happen to get canceled and is how they, of some people, didn't get evacuated from their small town when zombies started to become a harm to humans.
"And.....oh no, underwear. "Why can't mom stay home and do laundry like a normal mother?" "Do you ever actually listen to the stuff that comes out of your mouth?"
The action is fun, the sense of humor is there, a major page turner (every time I had a chance I would pick up my phone and read this bad boy), and one that the world needs to read. It's paced well, the action just in the right moments, the need for survival( first thing they think of is a place to be able to live in with lots of supplies) and there find of a way to kill them. Which I think to be very creative on Mr. Ware's part. Wouldn't have thought, being a girl whom watches a lot of zombies and knowing the rules of shooting them in the head, so it was cool to see another way of killing them. So thank you MJA Ware for writing this fun young adult zombie book, for people like me to read.
I liked the characters, they start to survive fast and think on their feet. This is a hope for teenagers, whom are around more zombie themes than most, that should do well in a zombie crisis. At times I thought there might be a little romance between the two friends but it never reached that far, they were just there for each others comfort during this hell hole they're in. Was I disappointed about that? No. The main thing was zombies and the slight end of the world and I'm glad it stayed that way.
There's a favorite scene in here that I just have to talk about. It reminded me of my favorite horror movie, The Birds, and this scene gives me jitters of excitement. However, it is also a sad scene. Someone unexpected dies :(.
Over all I totally loved and am happy with how it ended, with a slice of sense of humor. But I want more. Whether more of these characters or more of MJA Ware writing, which is lucky we get two bonus short stories along with this book. Yay. :)
Yea I don't get the title either, but any book that has the image of what I want my wife too look like on the cover shooting a gun is a book worth giving a try!
As Im reading the book right away something was missing. The kids sneak out of the house to camp or hang out or something and then their walking back home. We aren't told what the kids did while they were gone. It turned me away a bit. I thought "well if this book is going to jump or skip 'scenes' it's probably not going to be very good." Boy, was I glad I kept reading. Its like the Raging Bull at Six Flags. Starts off super slow as it makes its way to the top then shoots down at high speeds. That's how this book was, started off slow but picked up the pace pretty fast and I couldn't put the book down. You have teens "living on their own" trying to survive a zombie infested city, because the town was evacuated when they snuck out to camp. Told through male first person. Sounds dorky I know, but it is actually pretty good.
Funny, book mentions a drunk mayor..I thought this book was fictional? Guess its true what they say: every book has some truth to it!
Anyways at first the two main characters Nate and Misty were kind of dull, no real personality. Then again, not really sure what kind of personality two teens in a zombie infested town are supposed to have! But after Kali showed up (a very annoying, yet intelligent little boy.)they seemed to take on personalities. The interaction and the reactions between the three was great. Towards the end I actually grew to like the characters.
A very good book. Yes sir 10x better than I had thought (sorry author) I'm glad I got to read this book. As I said I try to picture every book as a movie and this book would make a good movie. I read it all in one day. Very rare that I say I couldn't put the book down. I did put this one down, but for a lunch break or bathroom break. I did not sleep until I finished reading it. I'd recommend this book to anyone (above 10 years of age) Even if you're not into zombies. If you're not, play Mafia Wars on Facebook, I did and I guess seeing the zombies in the game made me want to read the book. A tip: Be nice to your local Wal-mart. read the book and you'll know what I mean by that!
Nathan’s growing up, but best friend Misty’s growing faster, their relationship just starting to struggle with the strain. Parents struggle too, alternately planning vacations together and refusing to let the children see each other. But running away from home turns out to be a bad idea since the two kids return to a town emptied of the living and filled with the living dead. Soon they’re raiding Wal-Mart, trying to recreate zombie survivals of movie fame, and slowly realizing most of the people in zombie movies don’t survive.
Luckily even zombies have an Achilles’ heel; in this case it’s lemonade, though Wal-Mart’s shelves might be hard-pressed squeezing out enough citrus to save these kids. Of course, life has given them more than just lemons; free reign of their parents’ houses, cars, the toy aisle… There’s always the question of why the bridges out of town have been blown up of course, and when super-geek Kali joins the squad the zombie-fight becomes a race against time.
Nathan’s voice is so convincing I still hear him in my head as I remember his tale. His concerns are down-to-earth and filled with youthful everyday humor, though these particular days also reveal a reluctant hero behind the facade. Ah, Misty, will you fall for him? Me, I’ve fallen for each of the characters, each brave in their own way, each pleasingly real and fun—even Kali, who talks like a Wikipedia article and works out entirely too much about the enemy.
There are gentle hints of coming of age and mild environmental warnings behind the zombie action. Youthful ingenuity, noisy bravery, and the gift of friendship prevail. And there’s all the hilarity you’d expect from a title like Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb. Think Sean of the Dead for kids, or R.L. Stein with just the right amount of humor and heart. When you’re finished, go visit the author’s webpage and demand a sequel.
Disclosure: I was given a free ecopy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
.Review: Nate and Misty find themselves in a bit of a bad situation. With bad meaning there are zombies out roaming the streets and our two heroes had to fight for survival. Along the way, they meet a young boy called Kali, who they end up taking along for the ride, and find an unconventional weapon for use against the undead-any liquid with a high pH value- the most accessible of this being lemon juice! It all starts very quickly, with the mayor being bitten and turning into a zombie within three short chapters. Our main characters soon realise there is a zombie apocalypse is happening, and steal a car. I loved that scene. Two teenagers in a stolen vintage car driving through zombie ridden streets? Awesome. The only disappointment here was that they never actually hit the zombies in the car. Really, when you get a car chase with zombies, you just want to see them flying up in the air, don’t you? I get disappointed easily... Luckily this was resolved nearer the end! It would have been nice to see a couple more characters, although I think we did get really close to our main three, Nate, Misty and Kali. There wasn’t much development, but I still liked these characters. To start with, Kali was infuriatingly know it all, but this slowly grew on me and I really felt for him. The take on zombies was really good. they were funny, and the fact that something as simple as lemon juice kills them deader? Amazing. This book played to my sense of humour really well, especially the opening. Partway through, the humour was toned down slightly to make way for the survival aspect. The writing wasn’t particularly complex, but kept the story going and me interested. The structure was simple and fun. Overall: Strength 3 tea to a fun zombie book by an author I’d quite like to see more from.
I had mixed feelings about reading this book. On the one hand, I'm not a big fan of monster/zombie themed books. On the other hand, it sounded like a book reluctant readers might like and I am always on the lookout for books to entice them to read. So, I picked up the book and read it.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Yes, it does involve zombies which provided a strong gross element to the story, but the interactions between the characters also added a humorous element that balanced out the monster survival part of the story. Nathan and Misty's relationship undergoes some interesting changes throughout the story as they deal with not only the zombie but the challenges of growing up and changing feelings. Nathan sounds exactly like a teenage boy, so much so that I had to laugh at times at how clueless he was. The parts about Nathan and his father's prize car are very entertaining. I also loved the idea of lemonade being used as a weapon, I thought that was very clever.
I did feel like the ending was a bit abrupt and left some of the storyline hanging (relationship between Nathan and Misty) I think the book which is plot heavy will definitely appeal to reluctant readers. The action begins in chapter one and doesn't let up until the very end. While there is some character development, the focus is one the plot, which is for many children, the most important thing. For myself I would have enjoyed more character development, but I don't think most child readers will care that much.
Overall, I would say that this book would work well for reluctant readers who want something creepy without being too scary. Although the two short stories at the end were very creepy, at least I found them to be so. I've found though that many children are not as easily creeped out as I am. I will definitely be adding this to my school library.
This book was the perfect blend of 'B movie' humor and the zombie gore I love, and I say that with all the positive feeling I can. I loved this book! The characters were fun, and refreshing. The violence was necessary, bloody, and at times funny.
Obviously this was written for slightly younger audiences than the other Zombie books I've been reading, but it's probably the one that I had the most fun reading. It definitely doesn't fit the horror genre, but Ware has hit the nail on the humorous angle of zombies.
Parts of the plot are similar to what you would expect in any zombie movie, but Ware acknowledges this and has fun doing so. The best part is that he works with what he has. These are young teens, preteens really, and they don't have access to guns or other weapons, and they certainly don't start off with mature survival instincts. Their first idea is to go to the mall. Too bad it's a strip mall. Then they head for Walmart, which is a much better idea. But even then they do some silly things, the first night the get a TV, and then set up a generator inside. His concept for lemon juice to be lethal to zombies is great. It gives his characters something to work with that doesn't seem too obvious for them, especially since they discover it by accident.
I was surprised by the ending, and had thought it would end a bit differently, with a perfect happy ending that most lighthearted children/middle grade/YA novels do, but Ware gave us a happy ending that is still sad.
Overall, an awesomely fun read, and I would definitely recommend this for ages 9 and up, particularly boys.
You can check out my other reviews, include a week worth of zombie books, on my blog Turning the Pages
Nate:Misty did you notice the zombie's eyes? All pale and fogged over-like Mayor Frank? I think he might have been a zombie or maybe starting to turn into one.
Misty: Oh, good. That's a relief.
Nate: Good? What the heck do you mean, good? I said, still irritated with her.
Misty:At least he wasn't trying to kiss me.
Nate:He was trying to bite your head off. Isn't that worse?
Misty just shrugged.
M.J.A. Ware had my attention from start to finish, who would have thought something as simple as lemons could kill zombies. No decapitation or shooting maybe running them over with a car but this was just an all out fun read. Ware takes a subject and turns on the humor throughout and I believe this is what makes this a truly fascinating read. Best friends Nate and Misty, after being grounded, sneak out to go camping only to return to find that the town is empty, except for well the zombies. So, they decide to set up shop in Walmart, and the chemistry between the two characters is so great, I wonder if this will be a series for I feel there is something, an emotion that neither is ready to admit just yet. I look forward to more, even though I am not the intended audience, I thoroughly enjoyed Ware's work. I felt it was well written and flowed considerably well, with a balance of seriousness, wit and hilarity. The characters were well written and the plot was great. I would recommend this to reluctant readers and youth 9-16 years of age, as well as anyone that is interested in books about zombies but with a twist. My favorite parts in this book were about Nate and his desire to have clean underwear but no matter how hard he tried things keep happening to hinder that need. Overall, this is a must read!
OVERALL IMPRESSION: This was a really fun book to read. It was amusing, entertaining and silly but still had a great story line that kept me hooked. It had the suspense of wondering if they would survive all of the zombies, but it wasn't too scary for kids to enjoy. I think the book had a great balance between suspense and humor.
The book also had two short stories at the end, which I found very entertaining, espeically the one about the hobgoblin.
CHARACTERS: I liked all of the characters that were in this book. I would have liked to learn more about each of the characters and their background (particularly Kali) but this is a quick read geared at middle grade readers who are probably not that interested in large amounts of detail. Nate, our main character, and Misty are best friends with hints of more. I would have liked to see a little bit more of a romance develop, nothing monumental because they are kids and this is a kid's book, but maybe just a little bit more acknowledgment of their feelings towards one another, even if only in their own heads and not out loud to each other.
COVER: The cover goes really well with the story. It incorporates a few different parts of the story and ties in perfectly.
*I received a copy of this book from the author for review.
Yes, the title is long and a little over the top. But it fits the story, it's a zombie book after all. It's a YA novel and it is very respectful to young people's sensibilities. No cursing or strong language and no explicit gore or violence. I didn't miss a thing with it having safe language. It does have elements of good story. I am glad that wasn't missing.
Ware follows the basic zombie story formula. No surprises. A lot of running and evading and zombie killing. The characters are interesting to read. The twist in this story is that the characters need to rid the town of the zombies or escape, or the military will rid them all, zombie or not. That's a lot of pressure. The twist becomes even twistier when they discover that a change in pH will destroy the zombies. That's an easy thing to do one on one but you need a Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb to cleanse a whole town.
It's a quick and easy read. The name and the plot is enough of a reason to give it a chance if zombie stories are what you enjoy.
This book has to be one of the most interesting takes on Zombies I’ve read yet. The author is quick and to the point. No time wasted on nonsense and all the detail you need to understand what’s going on. It is perfect for young adult readers. The story it’s self is simple. Two kids run away and go camping on their own, then when coming back home realize there is not a living soul around. They run around trying to figure everything out while trying to stay alive. They come across a remarkable discovery. A way to kill the zombies that is simply genius in its simplicity. They also meet up with a 3rd child from the town, who happens to be a tiny tan genius. Mayhem and Wal-Mart ensues. It’s a very cute story and very interesting take on zombies. It’s short and sweet. I would recommend this book if you’re looking for a quick read without much commitment, or if you have a young horror fan at home. There isn’t very much gore and it’s easy to understand and get into.
This book details the interaction of a teenager boy and girl and some horrid, disgusting zombies.
Nate and Missy’s adventures are utterly preposterous and imminently entertaining. Their relationship is refreshing and contrary to what is normally presented in teenage literature. The relationship should resonate with “real” teenagers who most frequently do not resemble the cast of Twilight.
The action was well done and graphic without the overtones of reality. This book was a treat to read and I will follow up with a post of what my thirteen associate has to say as he really is in the target market demographic. The book poses no intellectual challenge nor does it demand any moral attachment, it is entertaining and fun to read and frankly teens need to have something fun to read.
This is an excellent addition to the YA genre. I highly recommend the book.
I've developed an interest in MG/YA zombie novels of late - and it's incredibly interesting to see how a story written for a (much) younger audience than myself can be appealing to a whole range of ages.
Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb (SZJMB) is one of those books, and I really enjoyed this one. It's a zombie story, but more appropriate for kids around the 8-10 year age range, although it doesn't hold back on the realities of what would happen during a zombie apocalypse.
I particularly liked the kryptonite-style weapon that Nathan and Misty discovered by accident - it gave a great new spin to the story, and all the characters were well rounded and realistic.
This is definitely a book that I'd let my own (hypothetical) child read and it's also great fun for adults. Plus the comic-book style cover is great!
I won this book from the member librarything giveaways in exchange for an honest review.
Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb (what a mouthful!) is a fun, zombie filled adventure starring two teenagers who have run away for a week only to return to a deserted town with evil zombies and no parents in sight. The rest of the book is filled with their attempts to survive and hopefully escape.
This book was very likeable. As a fan of left for dead, the Walking Dead, and anything zombie, I enjoyed this book. I think the highlight of the book was Kali, a home schooled genius that the two protagonists run into, who helps fight the zombies. I also loved the fact that one of my favorite beverages played a large role.
This book was a quick read and one that people will easily blaze through. While likeable and very readable, I'm not sure I'll remember it in a few weeks. I liken it to a fun and gory B movie that you watch and remember having a good time watching, but can't remember any of the details.
The Goodreads First Reads giveaway Gods wanted me to have this Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb...and I gratefully accept!
...and after finally getting down to business and getting into this zombie slaying adventure, I have to say my sentiments are in line with most of the other reviews here. I thought it was a great read, never boring, and something NEW for a change for the zombie genre: lemon juice?
Well that, and a couple of smart witted teenagers with a fresh perspective. I thought it was great, and just what the doctor ordered to wriggle the reading bug into the minds of a new set of young readers I'll bet...my nephew was very interested, and he doesn't read--ever.
Either way, I'm 32 and I enjoyed it! Not too bloody or nasty, but definitely not for the squeamish, fans of the genre won't be disappointed!
What would you do if zombies invaded your hometown? Well, we're about to find out with Nate and Misty! These two are forced to be resourceful and find a way to survive when all the adults are gone or zombified.
For a children book, it has strong characters and an engaging plot. In a zombie-infested city, the action never really ends. There is an interesting power dynamic between Misty and Nate. Both are strong in their own ways and that makes them believable and fun to learn about.
This book would make a wonderful gift for children of all ages. It would be a great way to introduce children to "scary zombies" without it being too scary. I think adults would enjoy this too if they looking for a short but sweet read so long as they don't mind a pretty simplistic plot.
This is not your typical shoot in the head and kill zombie story. However, Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb, is a great zombie apocolypse novel. I like how the author decided to go outside the boundaries of normal and make the zombies killable by lemonade. All the characters were very enjoyable, and in that awkward pre-adolscent stage. You could really identify with the sadness, frustration, and despair the characters felt. Although, by no means was this an entirely sad book. It had funny and witty moments in it also. Nate needing underwear and always destroying it made me chuckle. The short stories at the end of the book were good also. Super Zombie Mega Juice bomb was a very enjoyable book. I would highly reccomend it for young readers and zombie fans alike.
A humorous tale of friendship complicated by growing up, zombie invasion and lemonade.
This YA story relates the story of Nate and Misty, best friends who have grown up together, and what happens to them after they decide to go camping one night, without permission from their respective parents. Returning home, knowing they are going to be in big trouble, they find that almost everyone in their town has vanished. When they meet up with Mayor Frank, things go from bad to worse. They soon realize they are alone in a town full of zombies and they'll have to rely on themselves and each other to survive.
This book has a good mixture of gore (not to explicite), zombies, friendship and humor which will appeal to the YA reader.
Nate and Misty are best friends that decide to sneak out and go camping. When they return the next day the whole town is completely empty of people. Trying to figure out were their families and friends have gone, they run into zombies. While trying to find a way to stay alive and not become one of the un-dead the two run into several situations that are laugh out loud funny book. With their life on the line it comes apparent what is important to a teenager (clean underware and not distroying his Father's car). Fun to read to all ages.
