Great way to smash together two cultural phenomena where Alice in Wonderland fans experience what happens when vampires show up in their world. Torrid romance. Monstrous sexual appetites. Unexpected connections. Fun writing style that merges together seamlessly. I enjoy trying something new with this series each and every time.

I have tried to start this multiple times and just can't get into it. Sometimes, a reader just doesn't vibe with a book, and I think that's just the case here for me.

Subpar Synopsis:
A twisted reinvention of Wonderland where it is a bloody hellscape of vampires, werewolves, and creatures best left unknown. Well-loved characters such as Maddie (the Mad-Hatter), Chess (the Cheshire Cat), and Ferris (the Knave) all have interwinding stories throughout the dark, seductive world.

I feel like this is going to be more ranty and reactionary so ye be warned…


I enjoyed this take on the world. It was very dark and had a lot of possibilities but I felt as though the tip of the iceberg was all we got to see. Each character had so many complexities and yet they were grazed over as if the author got tired of them as quickly as they were developed. Maddie, for example, has this dark and traumatic interaction with Rav that - literally - changes her life and yet she kills Imogen instead of getting any kind of closure. Also, her character of "The Mad Hatter" seemed wasted because she demonstrated no madness. Singing words instead of speaking them is hardly more than a weird quirk. Noah had this backstory of overbearing parents and an ex who was all but stalking him but it's never really of importance and I'm left wondering "Why bother?". He doesn't face these issues, instead choosing to stay with Maddie. Speaking of, their relationship had SO. MUCH. POTENTIAL. Her own insecurities based on how she was treated by Rav and how little she valued herself; you could argue 'actions speak louder than words' in that he picked her over his previous life but it was so lackluster. They never really showed that vulnerability.

Ever & Chess' story was by far the most balanced and enjoyable. You got to see Chess' own personal hang-ups having never really been shown love. It broke a little piece of me with Ever's possible (but obviously not) betrayal and how he still loved her despite it all. I don't have a lot of criticism for them short of just wanting a little more because they were great.

Ferris & Mouse were kind of in the middle for me. The horrors Mouse endured and how far her and Ferris were willing to go to save each other was heartbreaking but the actually story surrounding them felt a bit half-assed. Short of them being in the right place at the right time, they really didn't do much other than follow directions while the fae came in and fixed the jabberwocky. It just felt really unfulfilling.

Series Overall: 3.2/5 - I wanted more substance and depth but it was ok.

I absolutely love this series! I am not gonna lie, i feel like vampires are overplayed and old news but when my favorite authors made this series i had to give it a try and man am i happy i did. I loved following all the characters and seeing how everyone ended up and how the lands became. There are so many twists and turns to keep you with your mouth open and also plenty of steamy scenes along the way. 10/10!
