After the death of his adored wife Angela, James Marshall is desperate to recapture the companionship of his happy marriage, so he advertises for a wife. With considerable trepidation he arranges a date with a woman named Eve Harris, a highly-strung beauty. Then Eve's strangled body is found stuffed into a rocky crevice on the beach, and James Marshall becomes the prime suspect. Between Eve's murder and James' arrest, another replier to the ad, Sally Graham, falls in love with James, and he with her. So convinced is she of his innocence that she embarks on a mission to bring the real murderer to justice.
