From Bonnie Erina Wheeler, the author who brought you Fate Fixed, comes the second installment in the Erris Coven Series, Blood Twist.
Find out what happens to the Erris Coven when Lexie's BFF Liz comes to town.
Braden Murphy knew he was going to die. There was a twist to his family secret – one that was forced upon him from the time he was a child. For years he envisioned his final days and tried to be strong enough to leave his family. Now that it was time, he was ready to make good on a deadly promise. Except for one unexpected glitch, a raven haired beauty insisted on joining him.
Liz Sanders thought her best friend’s stepfamily was weird, but she never would have guessed they were werewolves. Now Liz must travel with a secretive half-vampire in search of a lycanthropy cure. Landing in a nest full of blood thirsty vampires wasn’t on the agenda, but neither was falling in love.
Braden is tempting, but Liz’s feelings for him are complicated. She wishes he would open up about his past and give her a reason to trust him.
Just when Liz thinks she can let her guard down, she’s forced to confront the evil that has been stalking Braden’s past for years. Death is here and ready to destroy everything they've fought to save.
A picture’s worth a thousand words – or, at least, whatever it took to fill the glorious pages of this book.
Braden… oh, Braden… you adorable damphyr! The hero, the good guy… tortured without being a pining loser, tall, sexy, blonde…. I love it! I’m not sure how constructive this review can become beyond an awe-stricken love letter – scratch that – marriage proposal. Swoon! Hold me! I can’t tell if it’s strictly cruelty or just a generous act from the hand of God that the Erris Coven boys are fictional characters (think about it: weak-kneed women everywhere, mumbling incessantly in an attempt to formulate words, mass-fainting, thousands sworn in nunneries and monetary-isolation upon the realization that the lotto-drawing-odds of becoming fate-partnered to one of four are running out with no luck for the rest of us… it would be pandemonium, madness, a pandemic of broken hearts, looting in the streets…. okay maybe we’re better off all having cover-eye-candy and drooling rights via equal-opportunity mass-market paperbacks…)
And Death, you despicable, horny little devil. If you didn’t creep me out so much (like serious willies, people!) with your groin and your groans, I’d want to be front seat when the damphyrs lit it up – Death, your heebeegeebees deserve the sun where the sun don’t shine, you nasty bastard! And fangs off! That damphyr’s mine! (Well, not that his fate partner knows that…) You and your packrat lover-breeds, ugh, that hobo isn’t fried chicken! Get your tongue out of those tendons! When you get the munchies, fine dining doesn’t include patrons! Geez, and please – stop copulating in the dining basement! These animals make the Miami guy who got chewy with a naked homeless guy’s face seem like the nice boy you’d let your daughter date, and the Texan who mauled his dog’s flesh looks like a Tibetan monk with Hannibal Lector matching Mother Theresa – ain’t that juxtaposition! How could this be floating around in the author’s head alongside sweet and sexy Braden? How did the mind that crafted our beloved Torin erect this? A totally different and even more terrifying villain than the Serov!
And Liz! Who can forget Liz? Unfairly pretty, hilarious, kick-ass, general teenage ninja (a title one can only aspire to…), somehow genuine and endearing, the only chick who can make Braden’s double-hearts pound… I’d say I’d kill to be her if her past wasn’t so awfully rugged – and I’d be way too jealous to be another BFF (bless your hearts, Theo and Brooke), so I guess I’ll have to stick to for rooting for her on the sidelines. *Sighs, always the reader on the bleaches…* Besides frequent, reiterating, blatant outbursts of, “Aw, you go girl!” and “OMG! She’s awesome!” all I hhave to say is, FINALLY, a heroine who manages to be incredibly strong without being stupid! What do I mean by this outlandish statement, you say? Well… we all know them! I can’t be the only one who is sick and tired of the girls who can’t lose, make idiotic decisions for the sake of “being a strong, independent woman!” and constantly mean and horrible to their fawning men and other possible love interests because they can, because their characters are supposed to be strong. Humph. So not cool sisters – (*cough, cough* Sookie Stackhouse, Mara Dyer, Elena Gilbert, etc). It’s so annoying. Thank the freaking heavens for Liz! I didn’t think I’d brave another book (okay, me not reading? Let’s get real… but seriously, this was so refreshing!) What I absolutely love about Liz’s character is she’s strong and guarded and fights for herself – BUT she has a past where it ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE, it’s believable and real, and she can be cautious and ninja without making Braden (swoon! Swoon, I say!) pay for it. Why do authors do that? Again, I reiterate, thank the heavens for the wonderful, terrifyingly clever mastermind behind The Erris Coven Series. Girl knows to be good to her man!
Riley… oh damn, that man – tortured soul! Whether or not my commentary are in awe or disgust… well, I’ll leave that spoiler for the reader to discover. The only thing I’m dropping is that my feelings were… strong.
I love the love story that makes you giddy and gushing – the heart sings, feeling like the Irish damphyr gardens, something from the gentle people – and it’s impossible not to find that within the installments of the Erris Coven Series. The love story makes each book classic, different, unique. What I adore about this unique vampire-lycan lore, aside from being unprecedented and fresh, is that the dampyrs are more than the grade-A standards, but they’re also really brilliant and ethereal – reminiscent of fae. I think it’s fair to say, in my own opinion, these vampires do fae better than fae do. I loved that although it was another story entirely, the slate hadn’t been wiped clean – the coven was still dealing with the Serov’s aftermath, Ella was still coping, Lexie was still healing, the town was still grieving, everyone was still adjusting to Torin’s new partner… it made sense, something many other series can lack after every tentative “the end”. And wow, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think I loved Blood Twist even more than Fate Fixed. It’s difficult not to feel cheated that I didn’t get my little bookish hands on this installment earlier! I don’t know how this amazing author is blessed enough to have this delicious stories running around in her head (can you imagine having access to this people- *cough* … er, ‘characters’, whenever you wanted? No fair!), but all I’m saying is she seriously needs to keep forking them over!
All in all, Blood Twist is a must-read. As in, now! Get your fanny to Amazon or Barnes & Noble! Forget the recession! This book will make your second heart beat! ;)
Just please, if you suddenly find yourself on a fluid-soiled floor in a Vancouver nursing home instead of falling head-over-heals with Braden and Liz’s love story, I have a few suggestions: don’t antagonize the owls, don’t touch anyone’s bum, don’t go after the visiting damphyr’s woman, don’t talk about suckling bone marrow – it’s worse than kiss and tell – it’s fight club, and please don’t recollect devouring or any lost daddy chewing. Follow these simple rules, and you may actually survive the lawn chair of second death – or life, depending on how you consider the sun.
Firstly, I would like to thank the wonderful Bonnie Wheeler for sending me a copy of her sequel Blood Twist. Needless to say it was amazeballs!!
Secondly, it has to be said, Garrick is a complete and utter douche canon. That is all.
And thirdly… well, read on…
I have been dying for this book to be released since reading Fate Fixed back in October last year. I love how Bonnie is able to properly portray what full-blooded Vampires and Werewolves would ACTUALLY be like in real life. To put it simply, they are animals. Of course they are going to be animalistic and feral!! And by God are the feral! Bleh!
And Liz. I friggin’ loved her. We finally have a female protagonist that wasn’t dumb and annoying. One who was able to keep her eye on the prize and falls for the leading male second. A true heroine. And she was stubborn, but in a way that was actually beneficial to the situation, not hindering. Actually, now that I think about it, I’m not sure “stubborn” is quite right. I think maybe “strong” is more suited. And even though she was terrified in a lot of situations, she was able to keep her cool. They were able deal with whatever situation was thrown at them together, as equals – a true partnership.
And then there’s Braden. One word: Mmmmm! A true leader of the pack, he is the required brave and honourable hunk of the story. And even though he sometimes tried to push her away for her own good, you could see that he was completely within his right to try and send her packing being that it was legitimately a dangerous situation, yet at the same time he could admit that he wanted her with him. It was refreshing that he was never in denial concerning his feelings for her. Unless of course his cousins were giving him crap. Who wouldn’t to save face? But he never once deluded himself into thinking he didn’t feel anything. Denial is in Egypt, and that is where it should stay. I know we all fell hard for Torin in Fate Fixed, but I just have to say, Braden is totally boss!
To surmise, I loved it, I finished it in one sitting, and am dying for the next instalment, Soul Kissed, out early 2013. In my opinion that’s still too far away, I need to know which character the next one is about!!
The highly anticipated second book in the Erris Coven series, Blood Twist delivers all the romance and action of it's predecessor Fate Fixed. Continuing the series, Liz has come to Erris to find out why her best friend Lexie hasn't called or emailed for months. Once she arrives she walks in on the aftermath of Alik's challenge for power in Lexie's basement. Braden finds her in the middle of the bloody chaos and immediately admires how she handles the shock that werewolves and dhampirs are real. Liz is drawn to Braden but feels he isn't her type at all so she doesn't give much thought to him other than to admire his physique. Braden can't seem to stop watching Liz with his family. He finds the way she brazenly handles her self as fascinating. With Ruby, Lexie's Mom, infected and rejecting the werewolf virus, Liz promises herself that she will find the cure. Ruby was the closest thing to a real mom that Liz has ever known. She is determined not to fail no matter what it takes. Braden claims he has a lead in Europe to track down a cure and Liz is insistant that she go with him. Once they begin their quest to find the cure, Braden's secrets begin to come to the surface. Their search leads them into the heart of a dangerous draghur nest.
I was so excited to finally get to read more about the Erris Coven. I loved being able to still know how Lexie and Torin were doing as well as the rest of the family. Braden was a sexy hot guy with deep secrets. These secrets drive the quest for the cure. Liz is a wonderful girl who speaks her mind and takes charge without being overpowering. The chemistry between Braden and Liz sparks like lightening flashing through the reader's veins. As with the first novel, Blood Twist has a mysterious entity that you will keep you guessing the outcome. Not often am I kept quessing about the outcome of a book but Mrs. Wheeler is a master of intrique and action. I never quite knew what was coming next. The unpredictability kept me reading long into the night. The soulmate connection is there again drawing the reader in with heart pounding action and making you root for a happily ever after. Braden and Liz's connection is unique from Torin and Lexie's keeping the romance fresh and new. The excellent storytelling has me waiting on a sequel. I can't wait to find out what is next for the Erris Coven and the heart-throb's Cian and Teagan. I highly recommend the series for anyone who loves the paranormal romance genre.
As I am writing this I am exhausted. Why and I so tired? I was up most of the night because I simply could not put this book down. I became an instant fan of this series when I read Fate Fixed. Bonnie has created this amazing world where familiar lore is blended with new and fascinating lore. Bonnie has an amazing ability to blend the darkness of the vampire/were/paranormal word with sweet romance. In Blood Twist, we finally get a glimpse at the shadows Braden has been living his life under. We also get to learn a lot more about Liz and how she came to be who she is and where she is in life. The character development of these characters left me feeling like I actually knew them. I found myself cheering them on, or in some cases being mad at them for messing things up, all along their journey. I think my favorite thing about this book (and Fate Fixed for that matter) is that the author takes the time to let us see and understand the evil. Her chapters from evil's point of view are so intense that you get the true depth of the danger even when the characters do not. I also love that you never necessarily know who this evil is until the characters do, so there is still that sense of mystery. I also love that Bonnie is not afraid to show their darkness. If you love your vamps with a bit of darkness and true love, this book is probably right up your alley. You could easily read this book without having read Fate Fixed first, but it is such a great book, I highly recommend you read them both. Blood Twist is probably not for the very young YA reader because it can be a bit dark in places, but I would not say all younger readers should stay away.
I have had The Erris Coven series sitting on my TBR list for a while just begging for me to read them and so the blog tour for Blood Twist gave me the perfect chance to do just that. Fate Fixed was such a great start to the series and I really enjoyed it, but Blood Twist was just exceptional!!! I do admit to being a bit disappointed that book two in the series wasn't a continuation of Lexie and Torin's story but once I was a few pages in that disappointment was out the window.
I'm not going to get bogged down in giving you a big description of the story. I think the book blurb covers all of the pretty perfectly.
Blood Twist is told in three different voices. Liz, Braden and Death. And it's not until we near the end of the book that we learn the true identity of who Death really is. And it will keep you guessing the whole way through!! He is seriously evil!!! Having already been introduced to Liz and Braden in book one you can easily slip into the story without having those initial chapters of getting acquainted with characters. Although we definitely get to see much deeper into what makes the characters tick and you have a much deeper understanding of them as the story goes on.
Blood Twist is a book that is packed full of romance, but there is death and darkness twisted and woven throughout the story that add's another layer to the book. I enjoyed everything about Blood Twist just that little bit more than book one. I loved the romance between Liz and Braden. The action and suspense were perfectly played out. The depth of evil of certain characters fit at exactly the level that I like it. And I immediately fell in love with a new character that we were introduced to in Riley. I would love to see more of him in a future book.
Book three, Soul Kissed just can't release quick enough for me!! Bonnie Erina Wheeler's Erris Coven series has made it's way onto my list of favourite series!!
*A copy was provided by Bonnie Wheeler for review*
I was SO happy when I finally got to find out what happened next after reading Fate Fixed forever ago. Even though this book had a bit more blood and gore in it than the first book, it was still really good. My favorite thing was definitely Liz and Braden's relationship, it had so much spark and passion, I just couldn't stop reading.
I love how we got to see the POV from 2 different characters that had been briefly touched in the first book. It was such a fresh take on the same world but different views. While Liz and Braden were discovering their new feelings for each other, there were a lot of other things going on. There were a lot of twists throughout the book that really kept it interesting. I even came to like a few unexpected characters, and got a few surprises along the way. The whole book I was trying to figure out if Braden would really die the way he thought he would and who death actually was.
There was so much mystery woven throughout the story, it had just the right amount of hints and details to make me think and just when I thought I figured it out, I was thrown another direction entirely. Slowly there was more and more of the mystery unraveling until the end, when everything comes out.
This book was really amazing, there was just the right amount of romance, action and mystery, the way I love it. This is definitely not a book to miss for vampire and paranormal lovers!
I've been waiting for this sequel and hoping it would be as great as the first one in the series. Imagine my pleasure to discover it was even better! The author that got me into young adult paranormal has topped herself! This is a book with characters that you love, hate, want in your family or in your arms! Her characters are true and real in a book full of untrue and unreal situations.
If you want love story, its there for you. If you want gory and shocking blood, that's there for you also. But done as a central part of this master storyteller's story. Come to Erris,Maine join the Erris coven of paranormal creatures in human form and see what family, sacrifice for others, and true love really are. But watch out, you'll find yourself looking at people and wondering...does this author know something we don't? Is that guy or girl over there....(gulp)..human?...or....?
I received Blood Twist in return for a honest review as part of the tour hosted by SuperGurlTours. Blood Twists starts right after the end of Fate Fixed. When Lexie moved to Maine she left her best friend Liz behind but was able to send a cryptic email before her internet was taken away from her as punishment. Liz knew she couldn’t live without her best friend and knew her best friend needed her, with a little push she was able to talk her aunt Bev into letting her drive up to Maine to check on her which she ended to bring her back and if she wouldn’t come she would stay with her. However she expected a warm welcome when she arrived at Lexie’s home not to find her mother in the basement covered in blood with two slain werewolves or that Lexie had survived being almost killed by her crazy stepbrother who also was a werewolf. Thankfully Lexie was saved by her dream guy and now fated soulmate.
After everything that happened Ruby hasn’t recovered from being sick, which they learn after moving everyone to the coven’s homes that her body is fighting Lycanthropy which she got from her now dead husband. Ella isn’t thrilled with the fact that the youngest of her step brothers Nick has run off with whom she’s grown close to. However her problems are the least of everyone’s worry as Ruby continues to grow worse as they search for a cure. When Braden the oldest of the cousin’s claims he knows where to find the cure Liz demands to go with him intent on not letting anything happen to Ruby since she has been like a mother to her. Both Braden and Liz have their own secrets and reasons for setting out to get the cure however Braden’s may be a little darker. Together the pair will deal with challenges that will test themselves, secrets from the past, risk their lives for love and find that one thing they both have been missing all their lives.
OMG So much love for the Erris series. I was lucky enough read them back to back so the first was fresh still in my mind. I love the supernatural world blending over into the real world. Liz is my favorite because she has read a whole selection of vampire books then gets to meet the real deal. However I like that we have a half-vampire which are the Erris Coven who I love, then we have what most people expect when you say vampires. Both of their back stories are filled with sadness which made me all the happier to see them together. Blood Twist is a fast paced story fill with mystery and intrigue that captivated me till the end. I actually stayed up super late just to know how the book would end, which it was worth the less sleep. The books are well written very smooth they just flow along so it’s easy to get lost in the story and lose track of time. I highly suggest if you love paranormal romance giving them a try they won’t disappoint. The Erris Coven Series has found a place in my heart as one of my all-time favorites. I can’t wait to read the next book I’m hoping to learn more about Cian and Brooke in the next book since they have been teasing me.
Book two in the Coven series takes off right were we left off from Fate Fixed. Lexi and Torins love story is completed there are a couple questions that you are left asking like will Ruby be ok? Will Alik come back for revenge? With those questions still unanswered its time to move on the next half vampire in the coven. Told from the pov of Braden, Liz, and “death” we are in for more suspense, thrills, and love. What will happen when the eccentric Liz comes to town to help out Lexi and her family.
Ever since Braden and Liz first met they can’t keep each other out of their thoughts. Braden, the first to complete the change, is dealing with a deep secret that travels all the way back to when he was 12 and his father died…. apparently he has to die. He has a plan and is traveling to Canada to get a cure that will supposedly help Ruby and to accept his fate. There is just one hitch in his plan Liz is insistent that she come along.
Liz is this wonderfully deep character. She is dealing every day with the rejection of her father and an incident that happened when she was young that sort of turned her trust in men. Liz has come to Maine to help out Lexie in her time of need. Since Ruby was like a mother to her she feels responsible to help and that is why she is going with Braden to get the cure whether he likes it or not.
We travel to Canada with Braden and Liz and find out there are possibly worst creatures out there then Werewolfs and half vampires….full vampires. The description of the full vampire layer is disgusting and makes your skin crawl. They are nothing like the half vampire coven in Maine, there they are a family just trying to survive….the vampires in Canada are as far from that as possible. There we get the pov of “death” we can only guess who death is and I thought I knew but I was SO wrong! While Braden and Liz are thrust into the dark and disturbing world of the full vampires a spark begins between the two, starting with just a touch they begin to lean on and trust on another. Again we get to dive deep into the feelings of both Braden and Liz and that makes everything leap off the page and into your heart! Could another Fate bonding be in the air?!
In this wonderful second installment of the Erris Coven series we learn about Braden’s family history, his fathers death and why he is so wanted by “death”. There are many different turns and lots of suspense laced with love. After completing this book I see a pattern…does anyone else? This series is an awesome twist between Nora Roberts Series such as The Bride Quartet and the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy and Twilight. If you are a lover of either you will LOVE this series! I am anxiously waiting for book 3, It will be coming out in Summer 2013 and that can not be soon enough! Who will the story be about that time? Who will be next? Cain or Teagan? And what challenges will they face?
Wheeler created some awesome characters that each have their own story to tell. And in this story we get Braden and Liz’s story. We find out that Braden has been hiding a huge secret from his family and it was all for their safety. What he didn't plan on was bringing Liz into the mix. The last thing he would ever want to do is hurt her or put her in harm’s way. Liz just wants to find the cure for Lexie’s mother. But having to trust Braden to help get that cure is going to be hard for her. Liz doesn’t trust people easily, especially guys. And that trust is put to the test when they are brought to an enemy’s coven. Can Braden get Liz out of the Vampire’s nest and save his family? Will they get the cure that Lexie’s mom so desperately needs?
I cannot believe it has been a nearly a year and a half since I first read Fate Fixed. That is when I fell in love with the Vampire/ Damphyr/ Draugr world that Wheeler created. Yeah, these Vampires are not the Salvatore brothers we all know and love…these guys don’t sparkle in the sun…these Vampires are heartless beings that only want your blood and love to torture you for it. Well the Draugr live that way. The Damphyr, however, live on animal blood and try to stay under the radar so they don’t bring unwanted attention on their cover by humans.
What I loved, like in the first book, is that there is a secret POV added throughout the story. When Wheeler adds these POV’s, it really adds that extra level of suspense that I love in books. Like in Fate Fixed, where we had WOLF’s POV and we didn’t find out who he was until near the end, we get DEATH’s POV. Oh he is so sick and twisted. Trust me you are going to be guessing the whole time who you think it is. But did you guess right?? I actually did. But I promise it wasn’t easy figuring it out.
What I disliked about the book, keep in mind this is just my opinion, was the romance between Braden and Liz wasn’t quite as romantic and swoony as Torin and Lexie’s was. I swooned over them so much and then in this story it was just ok. It was almost as if it their romance was just expected. I don’t know, I guess it was just me. I liked them together; don’t get me wrong, I just wasn’t blown away by them.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a great paranormal with suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s nail biting!! Of course, if you read Fate Fixed then you already know you have to read Blood Twist. There is no getting around it. Wheeler is just that good.
If you have already read the first book of the series: Fate Fixed you've already been introduced to the characters of this book Braden and Liz.
Braden is the oldest of the covens 4 cousins and feels its his responsibility, as the oldest, to protect his family and the coven and in the process he's given up so much. He wanted to go to college, fall in love, and just have what everyone else had but time is running out for him. He never told anyone about a strange dark presence coming to him at school once when he was only 10. This presence told him that when he turns 18 and has gone through the change he wanted Braden to come and find him or he would hurt the rest of his family. This was a burden that Braden kept to himself for 8 long years along with watching his mother slowly die because the bond between her and her Fated had been destroyed. Braden doesn't know what happened to his father. They only knew that he died because of the bond being broken between his father and mother.
Liz is Lexie's crazy, ex centric, outspoken friend who decided to drive to Maine to be with Lexie only to stumble upon Lexie's mom in the basement of their house. Ruby was holding her dead husband in her arms and the body of Lexie's oldest step brother naked and obviously dead was next to them. Her first encounter with Braden was of him rushing into the house, thinking he was going to find Torin and Lexie, but instead sees this beautiful raven haired beauty holding Lexie's mom for comfort. Liz wasn't afraid of the white eyes or Fangs she saw on Braden. No, she was upset because he came in charging and scared the crud out of her.
Lexie's mom had contracted the werewolf virus, from her now dead husband and her body was rejecting it. She was getting sicker by the minute. Braden had told them all that he'd come in contact with an old friend of his fathers who said he had a cure for her and that he would be leaving soon to go out to Ireland to get it. Of course Liz wanted to go along, From the beginning she could feel a strange connection between her and Braden. Also. Ruby being the only mother figure she truly had in her life she wanted to do something for her.
Braden finally agreed to letting Liz come along with him to get the cure and the story of Braden and Liz truly begins here. There is love, death, strength and the occasionally creepy vampire along the way.
Bonnie Erina Wheeler did not disappoint me with this second book. In fact I actually love Braden and Liz's story the most. So far anyway.
Braden Murphy is a half-vampire…and that’s not his only secret. He’s a tortured soul who struggles between protecting his family and dealing with the evil that’s forcing his life in a direction he doesn’t want to go. Liz Sanders has led a complicated life with an absent father who’s broken her heart over and over. Brought together to save a family member’s life, they’re far from ready to deal with love and totally unprepared for the evil they’re about to face.
I’m always impressed when the second book in a series is better than the first because, sadly, it’s not the norm. Blood Twist, the follow up to Fate Fixed, has more romance and action and, in my opinion, two characters who were even more likeable than Lexie and Torin from the first story. This series doesn’t stick with the same characters throughout and allows the reader to get to know what’s going on with different members of the family. Of course, readers who fell in love with Lexie and Torin might disagree but I, for one, loved that this story focused on Braden.
Braden had captured my attention in the first book because of his surly disposition…I wondered why he was so serious and so secretive. In this story we find out what’s behind his behavior and what he’s willing to sacrifice for his family. He is described in the book as a character with integrity and I couldn’t agree more. He’s selfless…willing to do whatever is necessary for his family…no matter the cost. Liz was a great character as well. She had spunk and was smart and strong. She didn’t take no for an answer and was willing to fight for those she cared about. The other major character in this book was Death…yup, Death! For those who may be squeamish, Death’s chapters may be a bit difficult to read but it definitely makes the reader detest the evil character. The author does a good job at giving the reader clues to Death’s identity but never quite enough to have you completely convinced you are right.
The story ends in a good place with enough information given to solve one mystery but so many other questions yet to be answered that the reader is ready to find out what happens next. This is a quick read and the first two books do follow a bit of a formula but the characters are very likeable and the story lines provide just the right mix of action and romance to keep the reader entertained. Now I’m wondering who will star in the next book….but I’m already missing Braden!
Blood Twist is the second book in the Erris Coven series. You can find my review of Fate Fixed, the first book in the series. Blood Twist continues right where Fate Fixed left off. It is necessary to read this series in order because the story progresses that way and you get to know more about the characters. Also, there are a lot of things happening simultaneously and the consequences which the characters have to face are of their actions in the previous book.
Braden Murphy,is the oldest of the four cousins which comprises of Braden, Torin, Cian and Teagan. In Fate Fixed Braden came off as an uptight and overprotective brother but in Blood Twist you come to know so much more about him. Braden has a past which haunts him and you can see how things have been for him which makes him the way he is.
Liz is Lexie's BFF who's come to help out Lexie and her family. Liz is outspoken, fun and kick ass. She's hilarious and isn't afraid to say what's on her mind. It comes off like she doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks about her but when you get to see who she really is inside you can feel her vulnerability. I loved Liz's character in many ways.
Braden and Liz are truly opposites. But opposites attract and they sure as hell do. I loved the romance between them. Braden and Liz have good chemistry and try as they may they can't help but drift towards each other.
There were many other characters as well whom I loved in Blood Twist. Riley is like the perfect definition for the word tortured soul. Things were left open with his story and I really hope we get to see more of him. Also, the tension between Cian and Brooke by the end of Blood Twist was searing. I think Soul Kissed which is the next book in the Erris Coven series is going to be about Cian and Brooke and I'm really looking forward to it.
Unlike so many sequels Blood Twist does not disappoint. In fact it just gets better. We get to see more depth to the characters and the story. The writing is fabulous and keeps you going through. There is lots of romance, action and mystery. If you haven't read this series yet I really hope you give it a try.
*Note: We would like to thank Supagurl Book Tours for providing a copy of this book as a part of the blog tour in exchange for an honest review.
So I really liked the first book in this series, Fate Fixed. It is a totally different take on Vampires and Soul mates. So I had a really good idea of what to expect when I started reading Blood twist… and I was so not disappointed!
This is Liz and Braden’s story, and although I was a little disappointed that I have to wait to hear Teagan’s Story (ok so maybe I play favorites) I was still excited to here Braden’s story because in Fate Fixed he always seemed like he had a chip on his shoulder, so I couldn’t wait to find out what it was!
So back to Braden and Liz!
Liz was amazing, she is one of my favorite characters in a long time… she definitely has daddy issues, but she ahs learned to deal with them. She thinks all boys are not to be trusted (don’t we all think that at some point in our life) and she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She is also fiercely loyal to those she does love and will fight for what she wants!
Now because this is a romance, I knew Braden and Liz who end up together, but the way the author was able to make that happen was fantastic. Like in Fate Fixed they had to battle evil, and although I was able to kind of figure it out before the actual bad guy was revealed, I was left thinking about it many many times, flipping between a few different characters.
There were also a few times I thought maybe they wouldn’t get together, because well I really liked Riley, Braden’s Dragaur brother and I almost wanted Liz to end up with him… but I am so glad she didn’t in the end (although that it another person I am super hoping to hear a story about!)
The only thing I didn’t like about this book? The end! Ahh I HATE cliffhangers, and the fact that it involved the witchy little sister just made me so mad… why couldn’t I be left thinking about Teagan?
This is definitely a series I will be watching for (the next book is due out spring 2013), it is just so refreshing to read a book about vampires that is so unique and different from a lot of other stories that are out there right now, so thank you Bonnie for creating such a fascinating story that drags me in a doesn’t let go! Now can I have more Teagan? Please!?
I attempted to read Blood Twist before reading Fate Fixed simply because of time. That was a bad idea. While there’s a lot of backstory in the front end of Blood Twist that should get a reader caught up, it ended up just really dragging the story down. I found myself skipping all kinds of information and by the time I got to the story, I had no idea who anyone was.
So…I went to the first book, Fate Fixed.
Okay! So, back to our regularly scheduled review. Once I picked this one back up, I went ahead and skipped the first chapter. Ms. Wheeler thankfully kept the “catch me up” to one chapter, so that was most excellent.
The “connections” that I didn’t feel in Fate Fixed were there in SPADES in Blood Twist.
I don’t know what it was. The writing was just marginally cleaner, the words crisper. I don’t know, but the characters, their emotional entanglements, the setting, the anxiety of the plot, everything just magnified and BAM! Fantastic book moment occurred.
Our heroine is Liz, Lexie’s best friend. She travels to Erris to find out what the frack is going on and why she hasn’t heard from Lexie. Something happens in the basement. Bloodshed. Bloodshed. Werewolves. This was the backstory I said, “Meh,” to and moved on.
Back to the real heart of the story, the closest thing to a mom Liz has ever had, Ruby, is bitten by a werewolf and she’s not taking to the change. Liz vows to find the cure. Braden steps in with knowledge of a possible cure. Then they’re off to Europe where hearts tangle and Braden’s secrets come unGLUED!
O.M.W! Braden! *swoons* Braden, Braden, Braden. Love him! Ms. Wheeler penned him so well! He’s hot, irresistible and just the right kind of dark and moody. I loved Liz’s spunk as she stood up to him and the situation, refusing to back down.
THIS was a great book! That little rock inside my chest swelled a little and became a heart again. Briefly, mind you, but it still happened. This book reminded me of all the ways it felt to go through the cycle of lust and love and discovery. Excellent! Most excellent.
So, should you read Blood Twist? YES! Just bear through the first chapter. The real story is right beneath it!
Blood Twist is a fast paced book and takes place after the conclusion of the first book in the series Fate Fixed. In Blood Twist there are two new main characters that were introduced to us in Fate Fixed, but this is their journey.
Liz came to town after she received a letter in the mail from Lexie, her BFF. Lexie wasn't happy with her family situation and was unable to communicate via modern technology, so instead of trying to reply, Liz decided to visit instead. What Liz didn't know was that Paranormal creatures really exist and a few werewolves just finished causing havoc in the sleepy town of Erris. Lexie's Mother has been infected with the were virus and is rejecting the change and may die.
Braden was the first of his generation to make the change into a Vampire and has been living with a secret since he was 10. To get the cure for Lexie's Mother, he must confront the person that has been haunting him for 8 years. Together Braden and Lexie set off to get the cure.
What I really liked about this story was how easy these two characters got a long from the beginning. Liz is the type of person who doesn't like to beat around the bush, she is very direct with her opinions. She tends not to over think things too much and takes action were needed. Braden likes to keep some secrets, mostly about his family secret. He has a very protective nature and worries about everyone else before himself. He has an attraction to Liz but does his best to keep his feelings aside. With this coven of Vamp's they usually dream of their Fated Partner, but Braden has never dreamt of Liz before.
Liz and Braden are thinkers, they both deal with their own feelings and work through their own emotions, without getting advice from anyone. They are brought together on this trip and learn that they have a lot in common in regards to their complicated families. It is definitely an entertaining read but I think the book ended too abruptly. It has definitely been left open for the next book in the series, Soul Kissed, which will be out 2013.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book just as much as book one. I liked how book one wrapped up the relationship of Lexie and Tornin. We are introduced to Lexies Best friend in book one, Liz, and know of Braden, Torin’s cousin.
Well in this book Blood Twist, it follows Braden and Liz and a whole bunch of other exciting things. We see a return of Braden’s long lost older brother, who went to the “dark” side, if you read book one, you will know what I mean. I do not want to give anything away, as that is what is so great about these books.
Now, if you had not read book one. I suggest you stop now on reading this review, as it can have a few spoilers for book one, but not book two.
I really love how easily Liz excepted the half vampires called damphyrs, and really was happy to see that her and Braden may have a chance, only hiccup is that they had not dreamed of each other, which is what usually happens with their Fate partner (soul mate the supernatural way) But I was rooting for them anyway.
I found I liked Riley, after I got to know more of his story, it was sad, it really was, and hope we do see more of him in future books. I won’t say who he is, or what his story is, so not to spoil that for you.
I highly recommend this series. It really is a different spin on the vampire stories, very different. I really enjoyed it, and hope to see the next book Soul Kissed to be out soon, I hope.
(I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to the lovely Bonnie Erina Wheeler.) This is the second book in the ‘Erris Coven’ series, and kicks off where the first book ‘Fate Fixed’ left off. This book is told from the point of view of Liz – Lexie’s best friend. Liz has come up to Erris Coven to check on Lexie who has been uncontactable, only to find herself in the middle of the mess that happened at the end of book 1. (Don’t want to give away any spoilers) Now Lexie’s mom Ruby is seriously ill, and Liz and Bradon set out in search of a cure. What will the cure cost them though? And are Liz and Bradon’s feelings for each other purely platonic?
This book was a little awkward at the beginning as the events of the previous book were retold, but soon found its feet and kicked off another tale of love, soulmates, and plenty of paranormal creatures. Liz and Bradon didn’t dream of each other the way Lexie and Torin did, but the attraction was there, and slowly drew them together. Their relationship was sweet and new and innocent, and I couldn’t wait for them to get together. The storyline revolved around Liz and Bradon’s trip to Canada to visit a contact who claimed to have a cure for Ruby’s illness, as well as their budding feelings for one another, and also gave us some insight into Bradon’s family and background. We found out a little more about Lexie’s sister Ella in this book, who is 13, and very upset over both her fathers death, and Nicholai’s disappearance. I’m wondering if the next book ‘Soul Kissed’ will tell us more about Ella and Nicholai, which will be interesting as Nicholai is a werewolf rather than a dhampire.
Overall; a sweet YA paranormal romance. 7 out of 10.
I knew I would be getting to bed late tonight as I wanted to read and finish book two of the series, (Erris Coven Series). Blood Twist picks up right where Fate Fixed left off. Lexie's BFF from Connecticut has arrived to help Lexie out and insists on traveling with handsome Braden Murphy to Ireland to receive the cure for lycanthropy for Lexi's infected mother. To Liz's surprise, they end up in Vancouver Canada????
While there, Braden confronts Riley, his older brother. Riley had turned, as do all half-vampires, but he crossed to the dark side when he was unable to stop himself from drinking human blood. He longed to be accepted by his family and so he called for Braden to meet with him. Braden had expected to die with this meeting, but after traveling with Liz a fierce attraction developed between the two of them and Braden had to make her leave, so he could fight to the death if need be and not be worried about her safety. But Liz had other ideas.....
Again we had a lot of action adventure and a charming romance when we read Blood Twist; and many surprises . Just who was this Death character and what were his motives? You'll have to read it for yourself to find out, I enjoyed Blood Twist, but also found myself mildly distracted by several spelling errors: our for hour, their when there is the correct version etc. Bear in mind I was reading an ARC copy, so hopefully someone proofed for final edits. Based on the fast pace of the book and the story that was told, I very much enjoyed reading Blood Twist.
Blood Twist picks up immediately where Fate Fixed ends. If you have not read Fate Fixed, this review may contain some spoilers.
In Fate Fixed we follow Lexie through her meeting and binding to Torin, learning what he and is family are, and finding her place in their world. Blood Twist follows her best friend Liz while she tries to help clean up the mess caused by the werewolves, and along the way falls for Braden.
This book was very similar to the first, but in a way I didn't mind. It was very sweet, and made my heart happy to be back in Erris, loving all these creatures again. I must admit I was at first disappointed when I realized I would not be sticking with Lexie and Torin, after having fallen in love with their story. But I got over that disappointment quickly, when I realized Braden and Liz were going to be just as sweet, vulnerable, and exciting as their friends.
The religious suggestions were not as noticeable in this installment, but were still there. And like the first book, Wheeler switches POV's from Liz, to Braden, to Death. Of course, just like Wolf in the first book, you are not sure until near the end who Death is. She does a good job keeping you guessing; giving you enough of a hint so you think you know who he is, then leaving you questioning yourself.
Braden and Liz's road to romance is sweet, and hesitant, and fraught with danger. Just how I like it. :-) And with the way Blood Twist ended, I have no clue who's story she is going to tell in the next installment, Soul Kissed, expected for release in early 2013.
I wish I could write properly… I know reading over my stuff is torture to those that have the talent. But you must know and I must remind myself I created this blog to help ME remember books I have read when the next book comes out a year later.
with that said…
* * *
I really enjoyed this book this time… I guess because it was more a shock for these two to bond. In the last book Torrin and Lexie run into each others arms like a hallmark episode. but these two (Liz & Braden) fought it in the beginning for both their own reason and still in the end there was a hint of doubt.
I enjoyed all the action scenes and was glad to meet Riley and look forward to reading more on him in later books. So what do you think of Brooke.. they haven’t bonded because she is jealous. But now that Braden has without the dreams maybe when he shares with Cian … the two may bond.
Was the bit about Riley dreaming of Liz once before he went dark truth? Was she really fated to be his and Braden was second to him? Oh the questions… yes this could cause doubt… and she did feel for Riley but the darkness took presidency over. Oh and If he had feelings for Liz then he is not like the other dark-ones… right?
Oh my I knew Nick would come back for Ella. If he isn’t like his brothers… could they be a couple? What will happen with those two?
I must go look to see any hint of how long our wait is on the next book.
* * *All I can find is on Amazon: Soul Kissed: An Erris Coven Novel, Book 3 will be released in 2013.
so we wait…

Really good sequel! After almost a year after reading Fate Fixed, I was surprised at how easy it was for me to fall back into the Erris. I could definetly detect a growth in the authors writing, and though the book started out slower than the last one, the world building packed a good punch and kept me avidly turning pages. Though this book wasn't as romance centered as I expected I was quite happy with how Liz and Branden's relationship played out. I could see them falling in love and when they finally do get together it was sweet and very believable. I have to say though, that Torin is still my favorite Erris guy :) With that said, I loved Liz. She was head strong and independent while still maintaining a fragility about her that endeared me to her. Like Branden she always acted out of concern for others and her personality really complimented Branden's strength. My only small complaint is that we didn't get to read as much about Erris or the secondary characters as we did in Fate Fixed. I really enjoyed what they contributed to the last story and hope to see more of characters like Brooke, Theo, Endellion and Donovan to mention a few in the next book. All in all, I can't wait to see what more this author can do with this series. I hope in the next books we get more of Tegan and Cian and their love stories and who know, maybe Riley's too?
This book continues the Erris Covin series. Bonnie doesn't disappoint with her second sequel to "Fate Fixed". This novel while it compliments the first one ,delves much deeper into the Damphire legend. No I didn't mispell that. In movies most sequels aren't up to par with the original but this is not the case with "Blood Twist". The story that Bonnie lays out continues to draw you deeper in. I hope Bonnie doesn't end this series anytime soon it is too good and I don't want it to end. It is not a book for "tweens".The antagonists in this book are very dark and Bonnie doesn't spare describing them in detail as she does all her characters. I was drawn to the suspense of not being able to predict what was was happening next.I had a hard time putting it down to the point of nearly not being able to get up for work because I stayed up to late reading it. If you like romance ,family, mystery, suspense, or horror you will love this book. I did.Fate Fixed: An Erris Coven NovelBlood Twist (The Erris Coven Series).
I really, really enjoyed this book. The ending left on a cliffhanger, which is what the last one did as well. But I have nothing to go on, since the next book won't come out for a few months!! Whose story is it going to be, Teagan's or Cian's? And what happened to Riley, and is Ruby healed? Definitely not looking forward to having to wait for the next book! This would've been five stars, but the errors and mistakes throughout left me feeling disappointed. Not because it took away from the book, but because it wasn't edited well. I don't know if it's the author's fault, or the editor's, or the publisher's. But as an English major, I can't help but notice them. Bonnie Wheeler needs to hurry up and finish Soul Kissed! :)
I received a free copy of this novel for my honest review. This is book 2 of the Erris Coven Series. This book certainly doesn’t disappoint. The character development was fantastic; you feel a connection with each character. The book also toggled points of view between Braden and Liz, which I absolutely loved! If you like paranormal romance, mystery, and dark novels or any one of these, this is definitely the book for you. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I hope there will be many more books to the series, it’s a truly unique story.
A good YA paranormal romance. Easy to follow without having to have read the 1st in the series. I hope that in the future that Riley is seen more and has a chance at life. I'm looking forward to following this series.
Enjoyable read. I would suggest reading book one just to get some details of the characters and the storyline. Not as good as the first but by all means don't let that stop you. Did like the trill and the romance.
