Tells the story of how those on the Eastern Front lived and survived, and how, once the tide had turned, they exacted an appalling revenge on the Nazi aggressors.
A very Russian - Centric account of the Eastern Front of WW2, which whilst often skimming over details has a heavy focus on personal accounts of Russian civilians. The book offers a good - albeit basic - overview of the Eastern Front and would make a perfect introduction for new historians into the subject, though it’s probably not for you if you’re well read up on the German-Soviet War already.
If you enjoyed the book or are looking for something else similar but with more detail, I would strongly recommend Richard Overy’s ‘Russia’s War’, which had a very similar tone, albeit with a much greater depth of detail (especially his writing of the build up to war).
