Good Ol' Boys #3

Seducing The Saint

Rate this book
I hate Silas Saint. But we weren’t always enemies … not even close. Now, he’s a star D1 college baseball pitcher, bound for the major leagues. We were best friends, growing up, but I ran like hell after the scandal—ghosted him actually. I guess his taste has changed from trailer park to two-faced blonde sorority girls. I was perfectly fine with ignoring his existence before I was offered a job I couldn’t refuse. If I want my school paid for, I’m stuck working for the head baseball coach. Which means I’m forced to watch Silas sweat through batting practice and strike out every opponent he’s up against. If he’d stop glaring at me from across the cafeteria, maybe I would stop flirting with everyone on the team, except for him. I can’t say why I hate him—it’s a big, dirty secret. A secret Silas CANNOT find out. A scandal. The best word to describe my life up to this point is scandalous. And the scandal part started with a Saint.

This book is a complete standalone, but the best reader experience would be to start with Falling For Temptation, book one of the Good Ol' Boys series. This is book three.

When I found out a new book in this series was coming out after a year since the last one, I was so excited 🤩 And I’m happy to say that it was definitely worth the wait ⭐️

Silas & Scarlett’s childhood friends to enemies to lovers + bad girl x good boy + forced proximity + college baseball romance was such a joy to read 🫶 You see them try to strongly resist their old feelings for each other, but they can’t stop them from resurfacing and turning into more 🤭 It also makes you wonder what went down between them before revealing a twist that I did not expect… 👀

Even though Silas & Scarlett are different from the other characters in this series, I still adored them 🥹 There’s a reason why they became enemies, but I could still see how much they cared about each other through the fronts they put on — WE LOVE DUAL POV!! Scarlett has a lot going on in her life, and it really made me feel for her. Silas was just so precious, and him being the one to treat her right and show her that she deserves to be loved warmed my heart 😭 Plus, their chemistry was just so good (re: hot tub scene) 🔥

Overall, I’m so glad I got to read about Silas & Scarlett getting the happy ending they deserved 💜 I’ll always cherish this series for being filled with all the uncommon tropes that I love and aren’t written enough 🥲 It also made me so happy to see past couples in this series because I missed them 🤧 And to Dan: I AM READY FOR YOUR BOOK 😫

Thank you so much to MJ Hendrix for an ARC of this book! 💌

Another ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ by M. J Hendrix.
This is the 3rd book of the Good Ol Boys Series. It's not necessarily that you read the other 2 books, buttttt, I recommend you to do it, you are going to enjoy the whole series, who doesn't love bad girl/good boy trope, or sports/nerds guys😩

I really loved the way the relationship of Silas and Scarlett was developed. ❤️

"Does she want to mess with me, maybe ruin my life a little bit?"

"I can feel her before I see her. "

Obsessed with this series, loved Adam, Levi, and now Silas. ❤️

CAN'T WAIT FOR DAN'S BOOK❤️❤️

This was unfortunately not for me. I didn't feel any chemistry between the characters and didn't believe their romance.

Also there was so little steam... That was disappointing.

Silas is from a small town with a very strict upbringing and parents. His dad was the town pastor. Baseball was his joy. He, ate, breathed, and slept baseball. After being accept into the college he quickly became a star baseball star.
Scarlett had a rough upbringing. She had a single mom and was constantly moving around the country when her mom couldn’t lay the bills. Scarlett and her mom had moved to the same small town where Silas had lived. Her and her mom received help from Silas’ parents and community.
Scarlett had always liked Silas when they were younger and would do stuff to see if he’d get jealous, like kissing his friend Dan. After she and her mom moved they would continue to write letters back and forth and until one letter Silas received tore his heart apart. Now he is in college and he was shocked when he saw Scarlett dancing at a frat party. Even though it has been four years since they last talk his heart is still broken. He tried to ignore her but when she shows up to work for the baseball team she is hard to ignore.
I am grateful that MJ allows me to be part of her ARC team. I have read the other two books in the “Good Ol’ Boys” series and I have loved them each. But there is something about Silas and Scarlett that makes them my favorite so far. I laughed, cried, smiled, and was angry while reading this book.

*this book was kindly sent to me by the author (M. J. Hendrix) in exchange for an honest review*

• review in english • (a review in portuguese will be posted soon)

“Silas feels like home to me. And I’ve been homesick for a long time.”

Silas was brought up in a small town, he’s the Pastor’s son and was raised in a strict environment. Baseball is his passion and he quickly becomes a star when he starts college.

Scarlett was raised by her mom, who went through so much pain and had to keep moving to get away from toxic relationships and to be able to pay bills and put food on the table. She had to grow up fast and learned from a very young age that life isn’t a fairytale.

Although Scarlett and Silas were best friends when they were younger, the only thing they have in common now is that they can’t stand each other.

After Scarlett’s last letter to Silas – the letter that broke his heart and would forever change him – years ago, they thought they would never meet again. They would just be strangers with a past. But it all changes when our College Baseball Star sees Scarlett at a party. Of course they thought it would be sooo easy to ignore each other but then Scarlett starts working for the baseball team and the “ignoring each other” part doesn’t seem so easy anymore.

I love the fact that M.J. Hendrix added sports romance to this book without losing her magical touch. I absolutely loved Adam & Harley’s (“Falling for Temptation", book #1) and Levi & Kenna’s (“Seeing Double", book #2) stories, and now we got another amazing (and spicy!) read added to this series.

I’m a sucker for a good sports romance and it’s no secret that some of my favorite tropes are enemies to lovers, second chance romance and childhood friends to lovers, so this was obviously another five-star read for me. There is also a huge secret and a huge twist that just made everything even better because who doesn’t love a bit of suspense?

I can’t end my review without saying how much I adored Coach Simmers and Dave. Every character adds so much to the book, but these two are such amazing father figures that I couldn’t not talk about them.

I’m also so, so happy to know we’re getting Dan and Lu’s book next! They’re such wonderful friends to Silas and Scarlett and became two of my favorite side characters throughout these series (along with Keena, who was a side character in book #1, and got her own book!). They deserve the world.

A huge thank you to M.J. Hendrix for giving me the honor to be a part of her arc team since book #1. I’m so thankful to be a part of such an amazing journey!

2.75 ⭐️

listen, i ADORED the first two books and when i saw this was silas’s book i was ecstatic. except, i did not enjoy reading from the scarlett’s pov. she had all the qualities i love in a badass fmc - just the execution wasn’t quite there. she was just infuriating to read about and i thought silas deserved better.

i did guess the plot twist but i didn’t like it. it was … strange. the plot also seemed to be all over the place. i found that happened in the first two books too but since i loved the characters so much, i could overlook it. i love silas but scarlett gets on my nerves which sucks because i feel like she’s a character i could relate to.

i was dragging this out but it also took me forever to read this.

however, i love the crumbs we’re getting for dan’s book. i sense a cute friends to lovers. i still love the series it’s just that one character that let me down…

Tropes: enemies to lovers, good guy, bad girl, baseball sports romance, and second chance.

One thing about me is I’m going to DEVOUR A second chance romance. I loved that she was the “bad girl” in this situation it made it for a nice mix up. I love Silas + Scarlett together! The tension was uffff perf!!

POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

M.J. is the queen of the bad girl/good (and innocent) guy trope, but this time she took it up a notch and added in the sports romance, so its like she literally made this book just for me!

Silas and Scarlett are both complicated characters, and there is a lot of tension (the good kind and the bad kind) between these childhood friends to enemies. At first, I had a hard time liking Scarlett, but I think by the end she definitelv redeems herself, as I gained more of an understanding for why she is the way she is. I loved seeing the character growth for both of them, as well as how they brought out the best in each other (and maybe an entire possessive side that Silas didn't even know he had)!

Throughout the story, we know there is some kind of secret Scarlett is keeping and I love that bit of suspense rolled in with all the emotional and more funny moments. This book makes for a great standalone, and I would say it is a little spicier than the other books in the series, which I'm here for! I loved seeing all the guys and their girls back together in the end, and I can't wait for Dan to get his HEA!

These books are so much fun! I laughed out load multiple times and I am counting down the days until Dans book comes out! I read all 3 of these books in less than a week, so addicting. My heart truly ached for scar and Silas. What a horrible situation their parents put them in 😭. Really love how it all played out in the end

The tension between Silas and Scarlett was super intense from the start, and I loved every bit of it. Always love the twists MJ Hendrix adds to her stories, and this was no exception. Great HEA, and I loved the spice and chemistry. *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 Stars! I bawled my eyes out at the end. This started out slow and I called the secret before it was announced. But this was still so good! I got why this is labeled as an enemy to lovers' scenario, but it really wasn't.

A minha opinião em português

Disclaimer: Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Seducing the Saint is the third book in the Good Ol' Boys series and brings us the story of Silas and Scarlett.

Silas was raised in a small town and is the Pastor's son, but in college he is known for being a star in the baseball team.

Scarlett was raised by her single mother and represents everything that Silas' parents did not approve of for their son. She had to move many times with her mother, who had many relationships that didn't go well, so Scarlett had to grow up faster, learning the value of work and supporting a family from an early age.

Silas and Scarlett were childhood friends, until the last letter Scarlett wrote to him abruptly ends that friendship. They thought they would never see each other again, until they meet at a university party where Silas is the star of the baseball team and which Scarlett recently joined as an equipment manager of the baseball team.

"They say you never forget your first heartbreak. I was hoping I'd never have to see the source of mine in the flesh again." - Silas

With this forced approach we discover their story, the reason why their relationship changed and how not even their hate for each other manages to leave them indifferent and avoid the attraction they feel for each other.

I liked the way M. J Hendrix introduced sport in this book, making it different from the other book in this series that I also read in partnership with the author, which I also really enjoyed.

I liked the slowburn of "Seducing the Saint", but it was slower than I would have liked and, despite understanding why Scarlett fell out with Silas, I feel that he was wronged in this story because he was "in the dark" about the real reason.

I didn't think Silas deserved that much hate from her, and on the other hand, I also didn't like Silas referring to her as a walking scandal. However, I understand that his side is biased by the opinions and teachings that his parents transmitted to him.

In general, it was a pleasant read, but I felt that the family drama lacked development and it would have been an asset if the author had explored Scarlett's traumas a little more when it comes to relationships so that we could understand why some of her attitudes.

I really liked Lucy, Scarlett's friend, and Dan, Silas and Scarlett's childhood friend. Lucy and Dan are two side characters that I can't wait to get to know them better in the next book. These two were a pivotal point in Scarlett and Silas' relationship and monumentally helped Scarlett to realize that trusting someone and being vulnerable doesn't always have negative results.

You'll like this book if you like the tropes: childhood friend romance, second chances, enemies to lovers, bad girl vs. good boy, college romance, sports romance.

Fake 5 stars otherwise it will drop all the way to the bottom and no one will read it...

The writer's style is easy to read most of the time. But sometimes some stuff just doesn't make sense.

I must have read another version of this book with all the glowing reviews.

From the book the following is from Silas, the preacher's (virgin son): The only girl I've ever wanted to kiss is upstairs. (He is in the basement with another girl, Amy, straddling him) I reach my hand up to curl it around her neck and pull her down to me. She’s eager, giggling as our lips join together.

A few pages later: "I texted you,” Amy whispers as she leans farther down to plant a kiss on my cheek. Amy did text me, but I’ve been completely ignoring her. I’d honestly forgotten she existed until I got the message last night. If there’s one thing I’ve never understood about women, it’s the way they make assumptions about motives purely based on what they want to believe. If I had wanted her number, I definitely would have asked for it". And this is supposed to be from a 'good' guy (MMC)

So, my conclusion so far from this author (and it seems most readers are ok with it) .... It's ok, you can use other women for your lust urges, even if you don't feel anything for them and have "deep" feelings for someone else. And if they get feelings for you just write them off and get a new girl to hookup/fool around with.

For me it just proves why there are so many unhealthy relationships. They are built on lust and not real romantic feelings.

But I'll continue reading for now, maybe I'll change my mind later about the book...

At this point I'm just reading to finish the book and get it over with.

I'm now where the MMC suddenly feels worried that his parents going to find out about him and the FMC relationship. I'm dumbfounded... Isn't that why he didn't want to accept all her rejections. To have a relationship with her? Or is it a case of 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree?' The MMC father had a secret affair with FMC mother.

Already finish this cutie, I really liked it's just that the plot on why they couldn't be together did do it for me, it's a really good reason not to be with someone and honestly I would not see myself getting past it no matter how much I love this person.

On the other hand, I loveeeeed how both here so in sync about how they felt about each other, like they felt the same way but never really told each other, they both were they childhood crush, then they both "hated" each other but it was actually just love and pain of not being able to be together.

Also the personal growth we see on Scarlett and her going to therapy is also really good, she has gone through a lot and she needed to heal to move on, tho I would've loved to see a bit more of the enemies part, I feel like it could have been explored a little more.

And can we talk about Dave and Coach Simmers, I feel like we all need men like that in our life's, the way Dave fell for Scarletts mom without judging her for her past, and loving her children like they're his own, or how Coach treated everyone like a son and embrace Scarlett on her job so easily, they were just the sweetest ever.

I honestly love sport romance and this was a pretty one, I learned a bit more of baseball while reading it. Besides what I said on the beginning, this is an overall cute book, I loved how they were with each other, and also loved to see little hits of Dan and Lucy, can't wait for the next one💕.

Didn’t like the side characters or understand a lot of the decisions the characters made or how they felt about other people (pick and choose who to forgive or be angry at when they made similar level of mistakes). Also (semi spoiler) absolutely hated that they mentioned SA and abuse as a footnote despite it happening to one of the main character ls. It wasn’t because she had already worked through it or something it just felt like the author didn’t want to handle the topic so I was confused why she included it at all.

》》What I Enjoyed《《
Seducing the Saint was a good, easy read, which I'm sure most people appreciate; sometimes you just need a good, simple book that isn't making you read 15 chapters of backstories and world building to catch up on the plot.
That was one of the biggest fears I had with this book because they were childhood friends, so I knew the author would have to give us background, luckily she did it seamlessly and without boring me to death.

The characters were all enjoyable, and the pacing was really good. Silas is such a sweetheart!!

Loved the idea and mostly enjoyed the execution.

🚩🚩SPOILERS FROM HERE🚩🚩

》》What I Didn't Enjoy《《
Why is my MMC kissing other women?! 😭 TWO other women, to be exact.

Idk about yall, but I need my MMCs to literally not even think about other women, which I get is mostly unrealistic especially before they are together or even close to being together but its a fictional romance for a reason, anthing is possible. The first time Silas (our MMC) kissed another woman, I was like, "Meh, doesn't bug me that much because they(FMC & MMC) just barely met up again and still in fact hate each other, haven't even spoken that much, it's normal". BUT THE SECOND TIME!? They'd been going back and forth for a bit at this point, and he goes over to his ex-talking stage girl's dorm, who we then learn is Scarlett's (Our FMC) roommate, and makes out with her 😭💔

Okay, to be fair, they didn't give us details on the make out or anything. It was skipped over, and we only learned of it later in passing, but still 😭 This is my preference for books, I did not personally appreciate the MMC having relations with other women.

The second thing that I didn't like was the first time Silas and Scarlett half hooked up. It made me cringe when she ran away, but that's easily just a me problem.

》》Random Things to Say and Wrap Up《《
When I said Enemies-ish to Lovers, it's because they definitely have a massive conflict, but they aren't like ruining each others lives or purposefully sabotaging each other. As far as being enemies, they are pretty respectful and tame towards each other. There's banter and getting on each others nerves and arguing, but they're not horribly mean to each other.

At the end of the day, if you're looking for an easy, enjoyable read, I'd recommend.
