Deeply motivating. This book gives you all of the best reasons for Christians to fast and pray. If you are looking for the details of HOW to fast, that’s not what you’ll find here. What you get are powerful scripture passages and life examples of how God will bless and strengthen you when you commit to a life of fasting and prayer.
Loved it! This is the first time that I will be doing a fast so I wanted to learn more about it. This book has me so excited to do a fast and on fire to get my edge back! A must read for anyone doing a fast or any believer struggling in their faith.
This book is an introduction and guide for spiritual fasting. Pastor Franklin does an excellent, detailed job of explaining what and why’s of Christian fasting.
He references old and new testament examples of fasting to support his recommendation, but reminds that fasting isn’t a Christian requirement. Rather, it could be used to build faith like the kind demonstrated in the Bible and gain a deeper connection with God.
Pastor Franklin recommends fasting for predetermined lengths of time to focus attention on God for specific purposes, such as spiritual breakthrough, finances, relationships or closer relationship with the Lord.
The book is interesting enough that you sometime forget that you’re reading about fasting. I discovered the book isn’t really about fasting. It’s about faith, the need for it, and how to get more of it.
This book was outstanding and deeply motivating. I just cannot describe to you the life changing quality it has. I don't normally write in my books, but I found myself underlining so many things with my pen. If you are in a spiritual dry spell in your christian walk and need a pick me up then I strongly suggest this book. It reminds me of that scene from the movie, "Facing the Giants" where the coach keeps saying,
"You can do it Brock. Don't quit. Don't quit!"
This book doesn't just teach you how to fast, and the purpose of fasting; it teaches you how to be a better Christ follower. It teaches you how and why not to give up fighting for the faith.
Some good principles, applied at times poorly to external materialistic success as if that external success means spiritual progress. Recommend looking at the 2000 years of the Church’s spiritual fasting practices and calendar for better spiritual guidance on what fasting is, why we should it, how it draws us nearer to the Trinity, etc. As an Orthodox Christian, I’d say start with your spiritual father to guide you through fasting as a spiritual discipline so you don’t go in the wrong direction or worse yet harm yourself spiritually with poorly guided attempts at fasting.
I appreciate Jentezen Franklin's writing style and how he explains the whole process of fasting. This book expanded my knowledge on the importance of Biblical fasting. For the past few years I completed a 21 day fast in January with my husband. I found it encouraging to read this book again before the fast began. Of all the books I've read on Biblical fasting, Jentezen's book is one of my favorites.
I got this book knowing the cover looked outdated. I really enjoyed the read! I was already looking to fast weekly so it was and encouragement to follow through. It has a lot of good nuggets and insight. I guess I will have to read an earlier book to find the reason for 21 day fast or the significance of Daniel fast.
This book totally prepared me for fasting and prepared me to do it the right way without fear but instead, having a strong desire to to do it. I Recommend it for beginner or expert level fasters, and even those who are still nervous about the idea.
This was so good I read it in 24 hours. It’s practical, biblically referenced and has lots of testimonies. It’s motivating, encouraging and I’ll be re-reading this, as well as buying more books by Jentzeen.
This is an excellent follow-up book to Jentezen Franklin's previous "Fasting" book. I would recommend reading/listening to "Fasting" first, then "The Fasting Edge."
Good principles for fasting and what you can learn from fasting. However, be cautious about using fasting as a manipulation device to get God to respond to you.
Great read. Informative and insightful. Franklin dishes up both practical and Biblical guidance. He uses personal knowledge to encourage while citing Bible to educate.
Fasting was not emphasized in the church where I grew up. I have been fighting hard to make up for that difference. Reading Fasting Edge was a powerful propulsion in the positive direction for me. I felt all the prayers that went into this book as I was reading. Those prayers elevated this book from an okay average read to a powerfully life-changing one. I would say that this is the most powerful book I have read on the subject till date. Thank you Franklin for the Fasting Edge! It's five stars from chapter one!
I thought this was a great book. His revelation and play on words it amazing! This book really encouraged me to make fasting a life style and gave me hope. Some stuff he reapeated towards the beginning of the book i sometimes thought i was on the wrong page because im like didnt i already read this he just worded it a little different.Other than that it was great.
A cheerleader teaching fasting! Encouraging and motivating but not deep. Short practical and full of stories that keep you going when the going is tough. Seemed to borrow much material from Prayer of Jabez and Lone Survivor. The chapter on the quit option and the chapter on humility were the best of the twelve chapters.
Loved this book! His first book on fasting was more on the how and why of fasting, this one is the benefits and the strength gained from it! I encourage you to read both in the order they wear written.
Jentezen talked about how fasting can help you focus on prayer and rely on God. He talks about regaining the edge on your life being like sharpening an ax so you can work more effectively. By stopping what you are doing and using the right tools (prayer and fasting) you regain your edge and refocus
What an eye opener!!! WOW! Sharpen the axe and get ready! Very powerful and wisely written! Great motivator! This book has touched my heart and opened my eyes! I will definitely use the tools I have learned from this book and apply them to my life! Watch out Satan!!! :)
The one big thing missing in church taught Christianity is the importance of fasting. This is the follow up to the original and it's testimonies and scripture references really help someone who has questions on what it is and how to do it safely.
this was a funny yet inspirational book. very relatable. the final chapter of this book was so powerful and awesome. I suggest this book to any one preparing for a fast. it gives you the before tools needed.
We has believers can remain in a routine for so long and think that God is not listening. This book tells me that we need to adapted to God and his way of doing things. God doesn't change..It clarified somethings
This is an excellent reference book on the subject of fasting. I like the way he writes; it's very relevant to our culture. Need a boost in recapturing your passion, dream, or joy? This book is for you. This book is going on my quick-access shelf for this year of 2016.
once again i am challenged to live a fasting and prayer lifestyle...and this book give the clear and direct reason why this is to be our lives... Fasting is not a requirement...it is a choice.
