Criminal investigator Larry Macklin has officially been promoted to sergeant, but he’s quickly learning that managing other people isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Larry barely has time to figure it out, however, before Neil Manning, the man responsible for the attempt on his dad’s life, escapes in the midst of a prisoner transport accident… that was clearly no accident.
Now Larry is in a race to find Manning and his accomplice before they can ruin the lives of anyone else.
A. E. Howe lives and writes on a farm in the wilds of north Florida with his wife, horses and more cats than he can count. Howe is also the co-host of the "Guns of Hollywood" podcast, part of the Firearms Radio Network. When not writing or podcasting, Howe enjoys riding, competitive shooting and working on the farm.
I really enjoy this series. The characters are great. The plot in this book was a little too complex to be real. People with no criminal background were committing murders and not worrying about them. All the loose ends were tied up, but I found the story to be improbable.
So many feels in this book! Although the main plot is a head-scratcher, what elevated this installment is the human emotion pouring out of Larry - and his maneuvering to make things right.
Only a “local yokel” would make the connections to solve these bizarre and disparate crimes, as well as mindfully take colleagues’ mental well-being into consideration, to everyone’s benefit.
Another delightful story with Larry Macklin, now a Sargent and lots of other folks.
Good to see new folks get an expanded role. As well as folks we have gotten to know over 19 books! A solid story that slowly comes together and while the ending is a bit far fetched, it all works out.
Also, really love the ending which involves Pete and brings back memories of the ending of book 18. A good touch.
This 19th book of Larry Macklin has lived up to all the rest. The storyline was written to take you on a truly who did it. It began with a prisoner break out and end with a bank robbery. Good Beach read or if you just like a thriller. Just don't get caught up on the obvious suspect.
Reading this series is like getting together with old friends. I love the characters and the story lines are so real. I only wish A.E.How's would write faster. Once I start the book I am hooked! Great reads and never ever disappoint
This author never disappoints. Great characters with a plot twisting and turning until the very end. You can’t ask for more unless you are asking for the next book in the series.
I LOVE all the Larry Macklin books! Memorial Day's Escape is an excellent addition. Can't wait for the next one! Mr. Howe has a great imagination and is a gifted storyteller. I never tire of Larry Macklin stories!
I loved this book from beginning to end.. Of course Larry is a great character but the surrounding characters are well defined and interesting as well.
Great suspense, and a real page turner. I was with the detective right up to the exciting ending. Love the conclusion, what a wonderful way to end a story.
